@@TeslaPlaidChannel am following Your weekly racing posts with Your Tesla Plaid and saw Your comparisons between the 19" [inch] and 21" [inch] wheels of Your two vehicles, which You then sold one to one of Your competitor; who probably is modifying his setup too, though he has not showed up again since. The obviously two very interesting race comparisons are that Ninja motorcycle and the other similar Tesla Plaid, also with 19" wheels and the covers. It is also very nice to see both the drag and roll 1/4 mi. racing too, compared with those You are done more commonly of 1/8 mi. This way, the comparisons of both times are noticeable and comparable. Do You have a 1/2 mile track available in Florida? It would be very interesting to see what top speed it can achieve there. It seems to me, that You have mentioned, perhaps, about a top speed limiter in the programming, software, is that correct ? Two questions for You about if You have seen the others who have posted quicker 1/4 mi times? Did You see the videos, one posted by 1320video with the owner, Chad Robertson, attempting to improve the results of another driver of 9.147 sec. 1/4 mi ET, from the previous day of another car , then two others using his vehicle at the same track, then with the third, a woman, experienced drag racer, also smaller, lighter weight, NIcole [~120 lbs] achieving the faster 1/4 mi ET, etc.of 9.081 sec. 1/4 mi ET @154.1 MPH in St.Louis during the MITM Eltie event about 2 months ago, July 24, 2021, quicker and faster than the other fellow? [kzfaq.info/get/bejne/kLJprMtk0rDNpH0.html; (short , single pass) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nJ2gg9aLqtCzZok.html (longer 1320video)] Also, just last week, Chet ['"Chillin with Chet"] recorded two faster times on Day Five of Race Week 2.0 2021 in Noble, Oklahoma of 9.095 and 9.090 sec. 1/4 mi. ET, using drag radials, matching 235 on the front and rear, also with quicker 1/8 mi 5.879, 5.885 sec. @ 122.79, .76 MPH though 1/4 mi top end speeds of 151,38, .31 MPH compared with the two in St.Louis, and with Your vehicle and the other one You race there in Florida too. [kzfaq.info/get/bejne/b8ibeZlnkqjPYKs.html] They did not have Launch or Traction control working either. It could be improved with lighter wheels too perhaps. it looks like it was a fun event, and for a good cause. It was good fortune that Nick (the new Plaid driver) came there to race that night. He seemed very amiable, and you were able to run some good Plaid-to-Plaid experiments that you wouldn't otherwise have the opportunity to do. Especially since you both were running the 19" wheels. You might want to share some light timing tips with him. He could really benefit from your years of racing experience. For the upcoming "Take it to the Track" events you might want to play with adding the hubcaps, and changing the tire pressures (up and down) as additional experiments, if you can't find quicker race opponents.

I love to watch your videos! But what I don't understand: Why is the speed slower when you're faster, than the other? Unfortunately I haven't found a good explanation in German explaining the rules or what, for example, "ET" means. I think R/T means reaction time, or not? It's funny when there's no sound coming from the side when you're racing. :-) I wish you nice races. Greetings from switzerland. PS: I apologize if I get annoyed with the questions and my English.
@TeslaPlaidChannel
@TeslaPlaidChannel 2 жыл бұрын
ET (Elapsed Time) is the time from actually crossing the Start Line to crossing the Finish Line, irrespective of the driver's reaction to the light. ET’s always exclude Reaction Times! The time from Green Light to the finish line is the total of RT + ET. The lower total of (RT+ET) is what wins the race. So lower ETs can still lose, and often do. As for MPH, it's not common for the slower ET to have more MPH, but happens for a number of reasons, including when a car loses traction just a bit.

I know it's really expensive so you might not ever do it, but do you think replacing the plaids aluminum panels with carbon fiber would have any significant impact in these drag races? And even if it did would it be worth the cost?
@TeslaPlaidChannel
@TeslaPlaidChannel 2 жыл бұрын
My local track says that if I change anything, I’d no longer be “factory production stock unmodified” and so then I’d have to add a roll cage per NHRA RULES. That cage would weigh more..,
@TeslaPlaidChannel
@TeslaPlaidChannel 2 жыл бұрын
But the weight impact is “generally” a tenth of a second per 100 pounds removed. I don’t think changing all panels would be worth it (for me) in terms of bang for your buck.

@TeslaPlaidChannel
@TeslaPlaidChannel 2 жыл бұрын
Reasonable question. I'm no expert on motorcycles; I've never owned one and never even raced against one until this time. But surely there are some rules that NHRA Rulebook that covers them. And last do you really feel a big difference in the 19 inch wheels? Mine has the 21 inch wheels and I keep wondering if I should buy some 19 inch wheels I don’t do any drag racing per se but the less rotational mass would be cool if it actually makes a difference. 9 pounds per wheel is pretty huge. That’s 48 extra miles per charge, according to the EPA. See my video about the wheels yet? kzfaq.info/get/bejne/m6dpl9iXs6q3nGw.html Plaid mode is just as fast for Roll Racing, usually a faster MPH even. We tested it after this night and it was fairly definitive.

They seemingly seem like they really was hoping scientists had things in the bag with artificial way of treating global warming. Electric cars is not new with just about every car company out there, but as one can see, they scraped the plain of Electric vehicles, while the new car company "Tesla" stayed focus. God bless Elon for his part for Electric vehicles. I love gasoline cars, but Electric vehicles are proven better and getting better and better as time go on. Now; electric vehicles really has turned my stomach on gasoline vehicles, and all the major car companies are now scrambling to seriously tap into Electric vehicles business. Electric cars, and aircraft is now on their radar, and combustion engine engineers jobs are on the back burner. Electric jet engines or rocket engines engineering has emprove and science are scrambling to make them seriously work for flying applications. I believe all Electric vehicles propulsion is the future and proven much less expensive to produce in over all cost. The life and death of all combustion engines, is at the hands of Electric motors, Electron jet engines, electron rocket engines and it all good and all to do with Electronic propulsion. Because they are better, Electric guns are replacing the combustion propulsion bullets, so the world is coming to the end of the combustion age, however; the world is at the dawn of the use of combustion propulsion.[ And to whom it may concern, these are all my words 9/28/2021]

My guess is that none of the three factors you mentioned would be likely to make a 1.5 MPH difference alone, so potentially it was some weighting of all three factors combined: aeros, tire pressure, and SOC. Probably very little contribution from the aeros simply because they have minimal (frontal) surface area and thus would contribute little in the way of overall force.

try asking elon if he can add a "tree mode" that just launches the car when the tree goes so you always get a perfect reaction time off the line. there are a dozens cameras on that car, if it can see traffic lights on the road and react to those it on autopilot should be able to do picture perfect launches on the dragstrip tree. no reason to give the dino burners the light.

Lots of braking is needed for these 150+MPH runs, the Regen hardly does anything over 100 MPH. I didn't feel any fade on this night, and it was the most back-to-back runs in the shortest time duration thus far. But remember, my last Tesla did 1001 Time Slips (running in the 10's, over 120MPH) and is still on the original brakes today. Recently inspected, they are doing just fine...

@@TeslaPlaidChannel so, below 100, regen can really provide a "surprise" amount of braking. But, without question, re-gen does take some load and a good amount of energy away from chewing up the brakes. I mean, how can you have possible done a 1000 1/4 mile runs, and not broken your clutch, wore out the brakes, or even damaged the transmission? and 1000 runs will surly chew up the motor, and with high rpm's, you can throw a value, right? ;-) regen above 100 actually does work, but with the mass and speed? Energy built up is ^2 (goes up by square - so it only feels like above 100 the regen not doing its job - it is , but you have SO MUCH weight and energy at play here!!! oh: - wait!!! - you do have brakes - but no clutch, and they forgot to add a transmission with gear shifts ;-) At 750 watts per HP? You can do the math, but that means you drawing 750,000 watts to get that 1000 HP. Really???? I find that power draw beyond crazy!!! Great video - and that motor cycle was REALLY impressive!! It would certainly make more sense to wait for the normal refreshed model s and not spend the extra money for most people out there. I'd be looking at 100 miles to the closest dragstrip to me with two others 150-200+ miles so even if I could afford one then it would be quite a hassle to even run it often!

It seems strange to me that starting 40 mph faster at the start only results in 1 or 2 mph more at the traps. I'm not expecting 40 mph more at the traps, but it seems like it should be more than 2 mph. I wonder if the governed limit at the top end gradually ramps instead of making you hit a brick wall at the absolute limit. Maybe when the top speed of the Plaid is finally uncorked you'll get both quicker and faster quarter mile runs, even from a standing start?
