Berlin to Świnoujście: 2 trains & 1 ferry! I stand in the Baltic Sea after travelling for 14 hours.

My original plan was scuppered when part of my train journey was replaced by a rail replacement bus service. I finally complete my journey from Berlin to Świnoujście and stand in the very chilly waters of the Baltic Sea at Świnoujście.

I grew up next the sea on the Ayrshire coast. The first time I saw snow on a beach was a visit to Palanga in Lithuania, in early January, in 1998 Yes. Outside summer, the Baltic is Baltic.

Polish train seat numbering is only seemingly complicated. Compartment car has always x1 and x2 seats next to window and x5 and x6 next to corridor. First digit is compartment number. In compartmentless cars is similar but x1 and x2 seats are next to one side window and x5 and x6 next to other side window. So when you know your seat number you know where it will be located, also without knowledge about car type. 😁

Wow, what a detour, after all usualla there is a train connection from Berlin to Świnoujście every hour, that takes just 4 hours and 1 stopover, and brings you directly to the island side of Świnoujście. In such al long time you could even go via Rügen and catch a boat from there (which is quite a recommendable journey too)...

@ hans nolgment: Remember all extremes or lacking are not good. Everything should be in moderation. As the saying goes " All wotk and no play makes Jack a dull boy", meaning no rest or relaxation at all. We work to have some budget to use BUT SAVE TOO. Because at the end of the day, when one gets old, work also disappears (retired), since younger ages and strength had left, but we have our good health if one didn't neglect it while working, family (spouse & kids) that only remain and the savings that will help tide us over in our senior years. On my years before retirement, I started travelling & been to many places. You can go budget travelling because it's so easy to research in Google, cheap but clean & safe accom (best to be in city center so not much need for transpo. expense), where to eat that would'nt bore a hole in one's pocket, sights free of entrance fees, book flight or trains months before so cheaper, so before I leave home the credit cards became due & paid for airtickets, trains, local tours, and my brought funds money are for foods, accoms, & incidentals like souvenirs, etc. Great I followed one of my diplomat bosses advice from Austria, "travel now while you can, even on a budget, you don't need so much excess, while you can carry your suitcase & climb the stairs to the plane". True enough, this pandemic had me stopped travelling, but only Africa & Latin America aren't the places I've visited, besides I'm not really keen. Just don't be extravagant and shopaholic on trips, then you must bring a lot of funds.

Seats in polish cars are numbered in a way, that allows changing coach car to compartment car, so If you wanted to book a ticket for a seat near window, no matter which car you find yourself in - you'll be always sitting near the window. Locos that were hauling both trains in Poland were constructed under license bought from English Electric - they're based on BR class 83.

I live in Warsaw and some years ago caught the night sleeper to Swinoujscie, had a three bed couchette to myself - great fun. You can actually walk along the beach into Germany and through a big nudist beach to Peenemunde....I plan to do it in the summer next year. The beaches all along the coast as far as the Kaliningrad border are all beautiful and sandy and packed in the summer, when the temperature can get to 30C - but the Baltic remains chilly: there are always fatalities in the summer somewhere when people chill and caught in bad currents.

I came across you completely by algorimic chance, and have watched since!.. Today, 15/10..just returned from Munich..a short visit to a friend in Augsburg... however, four weeks ago, took the train from Krakow,change at Katowice, change at Prague, change at Vienna, change at Salzburg,change at Munich, to get to Augsburg hochzoll!..a great day,13 hours, but thoroughly enjoyed it!... I flew out using eurowings from Edinburgh last Monday to Dusseldorf, then eurowings to Munich...not a bad airline, but did see some passengers getting hit for 'big' bags, although they had not been at Edinburgh...they don't do easyJet size cabin bags...by the way, for all I needed, it would have fit in a Tesco bag!... Keep the vids coming... maybe see you on your travels 👍🙏

Curiosity question, on the departure board at the start of your video above each time are some letters & numbers, do you know what this stands for? D 303, EC 59 & RE 1 reading the departures from right to left.
@Bayerwaldler
@Bayerwaldler Жыл бұрын
Those are the train numbers, D stands for Fasttrain, D203 = Fasttrain # 203, EC = Eurocity which is a more comfortable Fasttrain with fewer stops, connecting metropoles Europe-wide. RE = Regionalexpress. That is a regional rapid train. Many more stops than a D-train.
