Nice take on the planing beam. The sliding stop is a clever design.

Why do I like this concept so well done I have the book also put your lockdown feature is awesome what a great idea what's a wedge doesn't take much pressure. Just like in a vice if all the surfaces are parallel beam clamped the less pressure you need to clamp it! Thanks for sharing this detail Columbus Michigan

Nice job on the beam, and the video. You've inspired me to build one for my tiny woodshop.

Nice, I just finished reading that book and was looking for videos on beams. I like the addition of the sliding work holding.

Excuse me for commenting on an old video -- can you please tell me how exactly that beam is secured in place? Do you have a separate low table that is butted up against the wall, and the beam attached to that via clamps? What is that blue metal thing, the one that says "Kurt" on it? I ask because I was wondering how to replicate planing beams for western planes (japanese beams seems simpler because you're pulling down, so you just butt the lower end to something... can't do that with push planes until you wanna crouch every stroke)

Your clamping method is really ingenious. I’m thinking your beam makes a pretty good workbench for us folks with small space. Is it a 4x4 ?

yup, just 4x4. a 4x6 doesn't take up much more space though ;)
