One thing about BMW is that it tried to save some cost when converting a left-hand drive to a right-hand drive. For a supposedly luxury car with a price tag of RM 260k, it could not even be bothered to change the gear lever position. The gear lever is still located on the left of the gear console, the same as in a left-hand drive X1. I wonder if drivers find it natural to stretch their left hand a bit in order to use the gear lever. By right, it should be next to the drivers as it is something that is used in every drive.

This is really informative, thanks for pointing that out! I didn’t even notice this until you mentioned it, it indeed feels a little further than usual to reach for the gear selector 👍🏻

Got this car for ten months, 20i, 170 hp, sdrive. Many options. Full black, 19" wheels. Wonderful car. One bad thing: the car is really stiff, really!

I love it too! Yea sadly its stiffer than usual but i have gotten used to it haha

Thanks, a very good review. My wife has ordered a 2.0lt M Sport X1 in mineral white with 20” wheels. Really looking forward to its arrival from Germany, in August. Your review reinforces our decision to buy this new X1.

Before you buy this vehicle, let me point out the error BMW made in its design. On the front grill area where the radiator is located and slightly visible. Designers should have considered to put a mesh grill cover. Just recently purchased the M35i version, in less than 3 weeks of driving on the freeway to go to work. A rock punctured the radiator, took it to BMW for service and unfortunately it is not covered on their warranty. Hefty service price to pay 😏

I’ve been highway driving, east coast, for 34 years and with a new BMW every 2-3 years I have NEVER had such an issue. Your issue is 1 in a million.

Guy on my genesis gv70 board had same issue with rock puncturing radiator. Blamed henesis but pretty much any car with a grill can have this issue but super rare.

Same here, although I’ve seen better reviews in the GLA, especially the double clutch features. Shift paddles already come with the base GLA while on the X1 you’ll have to get the upscale trim. And the start stop feature on the X1 has been very bad, and one of the main complains of this car. While pulling in/ merging in to the highway; many have noted the transmission delay is really bad, which has been a safety hazard issue due to the start stop feature. Apart from that suspension on the X1 isn’t great either. Very bounce and tire grip isn’t the best either unless you get all season tires. These issue aren’t seen in the GLA. Some thoughts to consider

I’ve been super satisfied with my previous BMWs and just ordered an X2 to replace my previous generation X1. The X2 doesn’t look any better than the new X1, it still looks like a Toyota with a BMW grill stuck on, but at least it looks less like an SUV, and we don’t need the higher roofline. If it was up to me they they would still export the station wagons to the US and I would be driving a successor to my beloved old 328 wagon.

There is nothing to love about the x1 to be honest. It's just cheap and looks nice from the outside only. The interior is the same cheap plastic everywhere.

I think android is the worst OS, latency and responsiveness i with they had their own OS or use linux and something like the apple os that is very crisp and clear

Malaysia have the good x1’s, in Singapore bmw is selling the 1.5L 122bhp version which is a joke. Sgd 225,000… ouch

Haha that’s a really good question, a tough one to answer too! I would have to say the Mazda CX-30 is sexier.. but the X1 is much cooler 😂

The steering and acceleration are fine. Starting up from a stop, the car lags, and sometimes jerks forward alarmingly. Does feel a washboard: it’s like a minor earthquake. Menu system for setting up personal settings is too complicated. Other than that, vehicle is roomy, quick, nimble.
