As a reminder from part 1 ( • common plant care tips... ):
⚠️ Take everything I say with a singular grain of salt in fact split that salt into quarters and be reminded that everything I discuss and say in this video is my opinion which is not end all be all and if I had to rate my intelligence level on a scale of 10 I'd give myself a solid 4 and also do whatever works for you because that's my motto and I'm stickin to it ⚠️
Hello friends and welcome back to part 2 of 3 of this mini series where I give my two cents about popular care advice that floats around the interwebs! In part one we talk about things related to light, watering and drainage holes. In this video we talk about repotting, fertilizer and what to do with newly acquired plants.
As a second reminder, I welcome friendly discussion in the comments but any rude comments will be deleted. LUV YA 🌹🌹🌹
If you have any tips / advice to add to part 3, please feel free to leave it in the comments or DM it to me on Instagram!

"Death plugs" for me(in the states)are the dense, spongelike peat moss grower's plugs. They are horrific and when I have not checked for them I've had multiple plants suffer and some have died because the tiny new roots have been suffocated trying to grow out of it(just too compressed and dense!). The plants I have saved early end up recovering and growing well after I remove the plug.

I have noticed some that are SO thick and dense!!! And the roots are actually having trouble getting out. I think it just depends on what plug was used, and if the plants roots are actually gonna take it. My begonia? Did not like. Alocasia? Was fine. Im sure many have them still bc honestly i just left them but i have had some die and i find a super thick mesh and peat plug after “inspecting the body” lol

On the topic of period blood as fertilizer, I recently went on a podcast binge about fertilizers... lol so (I’m 90% sure it was this one) I was listening to Plant Daddy podcast’s episode called Houseplant Fertilizers 101, and they asked their special guest (Miles Jonard from the Plant Store) about fertilizing with pasta water, coffee grounds, etc and basically he said that the minerals/electrolytes/whatever in those “homemade” fertilizers aren’t in a molecular structure suitable to be absorbed by plants (that’s the gist of it at least). I’m going to go ahead and assume the same thing about period blood... plant fertilizers are formulated FOR plants, which makes sense 😅

Ooo CHARMAINE. The plant room is looking like a happy jungle 😍 just wanted to throw out there that you might find a jewelry loop handy, I happened upon one in London drugs for $10 it’s 5-10x magnification (you can remove one of the lenses) and you have to get pretty close to the plant but it’s neat even just seeing the texture and veins up that close ❤🥰

That pot that looks like a rock. It’s really cute and much bigger than it looks. You kept adding soil and adding soil and still needed more soil after you put the plant in. I got a kick out of this. 😂😂😂

I just bought 2 aglaonemas from home depot last week. They each had 2 plugs. They were not mesh though. They were plastic netty pots with huge thick roots. They definitely would have killed the plants eventually as would the inch of water they had them sitting in 🙈

I’m so grateful I found your channel. You, along with several other planty channels I follow have been my saving grace. Like you, I struggle with ADHD and your video about tips to care for your collection when you struggle with this was so eye opening for me. Thank you for your effort and time and for sharing your journey with us. What a lovely community of people this hobby has created. 💚

MORAL OF THE STORY IS: EVERY SITUATION IS DIFFERENT. This video gave lots of great info but also just more so proves that indoor planting is not black and white when it comes to rules. My video on no drainage is nothing in comparison to yours but you have me the courage to even make one! Thank you for that

I usually wait a minimum of two weeks to repot a plant. The only time I would repot sooner is if there are pests in the soil (ex: root mealies), rot, or the soil is not good at all for my environment, such as straight peat moss. If the soil is good, I likely won't repot the plant until it's ready to get a bigger pot.

18:53 I hate this one! I always followed that early into my plant journey and ended up repotting wayyyy too often. Like, a plant that should be in a 3" pot was instead in a 6" because the roots kept going straight out. Now, I always tell people to pull the plant out and check the root ball, only repot when it's root bound.

On the topic of periods, it was pretty interesting to read about our feelings/relationship when it comes to our period. And how when we have a negative or gross feeling about it, or hate it- we are more likely to have harsher periods (cramps, bloating, feeling like crap, even more likely linked to have endometriosis, PMS and so on). Where as if we see it as a positive, good thing we are less likely to have such harsh difficulties with our menstrual cycle. “In the Flo” is a REALLY good book because I used to be the same way with mine and it opened up my eyes to so much! And now that I’m more thankful for it, my time has been SO much better. Not saying it fixed everything, but my symptoms subsided SO much. I just know how much you have expressed how horrible yours can be, so it may be something to think about. Not saying it’s a cure all, but could help to some degree I think. ❤

I always wonder if rain water is good for your indoor plants. I see some countries collect them and store them to use. Also when you have a plant that has pests and you treat them and get rid of them. Why does it happen again in having pests on plants that you have treated. As my Hoya Krimson Queen that i bought in a nursery i have treated it twice fully and getting mealy bugs again. Is driving mw crazy as i love this one and I don’t want to dispose it and give it up. Also you mentioned with Alocasia when you repot them they can throw a fit and leaves droop. I sometimes see they don’t bounce back up again the leaves after doing it. Back from scratch getting the water right since they like moist soil.

6 minutes in you say you're going to transfer to pon but take the extra step of perlite - wish I'd done this with my silver dragon! Mine dropped half it's leaves after transfer, then a couple weeks later lost another leaf, now it's a one leaf wonder with a new one on the way and I'm really hoping it's okay! Kind of want to check the roots but too scared to unearth it again so i'm just hoping it doesn't die at this point 😂
