The Hoss Garden Seeder makes planting sweet corn easy! It allows us to plant directly on top of drip irrigation, which is an absolute "must" for growing sweet or field corn.

Great video and Information. I put my garden on drip tape 4 years ago and never went back to overhead watering again. The corn seems to love the drip tape and it was a whole lot easier to add fertilizer to the corn. Thanks again for the video.

I tried ambrosia and jackpot last year, the jackpot didnt do well at all. Tiny stalks, few actual kernels. Alot of red on the plants plus some happy grubs? In an old corral. The weeds had the red splotches too. Just picked a few yesterday, found a weed with a red spot. Keep the videos coming!

Amazing. I measured on a field of my dads that was rented out to a farmer who put it in corn. The spaceings was 18in between rows, and 6in in the row, and dad said the guy said it made 184bu to the acre.

@gardeningwithhoss

We cut the stalks, either with a machete or mower, let them decompose a bit, then you can pull the tape right up.

@gardeningwithhoss
@gardeningwithhoss 4 жыл бұрын
We grow food year round. So as soon as the corn is done, we cut the stalks (either with a mower or machete), pull up the tape, cultivate the area, put the tape right back down and plant something else. It's easy to pull up the tape.

I work at a commercial farm here in Northern IN. this yearwe decided to plant a garden, One of the things we have had to contend with are weeds. In your video I see you are not useing any plastic bedding and weed prevetion, how do you tend with weeds.
@gardeningwithhoss
@gardeningwithhoss 3 жыл бұрын
1) We use subsurface drip tape, which only waters beneath the plants and not between the rows. 2) We do a good bit of cover cropping in our rotations which helps to break weed cycles and keep our weed seed bank low. 3) We practice frequent, shallow cultivation with the Wheel Hoe so that weeds never get large and go to seed.

I am planting near the DIA airport in denver, our soil is poor and growing conditions can be brutal, wind, and heat, and low humidity. I am planting a 1500²ft plot of sweet corn 30'x50', 10 rows 50' long. I want to use drip tape and dont know about spacing of the drip tape to the corn row. I had planed to do 20 rows of tape one on each side of the corn row about 10" away from the corn. Is this a good idea 1000' run of tape? Seems like planting the corn directly ontop of the tape would be too wet for the corn. Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you

The tape output is 0.4 gpm per 100 feet of tape. The emitters are located every foot along the tape. So each emitter outputs 0.004 gpm.

can you adjust the seed length?
@gardeningwithhoss
@gardeningwithhoss 5 жыл бұрын
Sure, you can control how many holes are in the seed plate -- which will determine your in-row seed spacing. In one revolution of the plate inside the hopper, the seeder will travel 19". So you take 19" and divide it by the number of holes in the plate -- that's your seed spacing. If you want seeds closer together, you drill more holes. If you want them farther apart, drill fewer holes.
