Sand Cement is ok...but it's rubbish on timber. And it just doesn't cut the mustard. Which is why we made this video!
We'll show you the ONLY way to render onto a timber frame build. We'll show you the best products to use, the preparation involved and finally outline the renders we used for the job.
It's a full guide to my new favourite rendering system, Silicone render. The Link to the render mesh we used on the job is in the link below:

Here's a thin coat rubbing up tip for ya mate, when rubbing up, fill a gorilla tub half with water, and use two floats to rub up ( not at same time ). hang one on the side of the tub and use the other, Clean it every 10/15 secs and then use the other one that's been hanging on the side drying out, and repeat Ive always found if your float is constantly clean it glides without any drag.

In central/eastern Europe, where you don't have cavity walls and many are going for EWI, silicone render is now standard. Only drawback is you need to work mob-handed on larger areas. Apart from that, it's durable, repels water and dirt and doesn't need painting.

Great content on Blaine’s page, you are a legend of the KZfaq plastering. Couple of things though not correct man, you can’t put the beads on with a grip they have to be embedded. You should use starcontact to do this. Also the plastering scrim won’t do anything, the gaps is good to allow for movement. Should of defo doubled up around the window stress points. Just a couple of things to do differently. Putting the finish on by hand alone though that’s great going haha. I wouldn’t man. All in all love your channel, I’m a advocate for educating people. Original plan was to cedral clad it, but with the prices of the cladding going through the roof atm, I'm considering giving silicone render a first go. Done plenty of s&c but because its timber framed, plus it needs the fibre cement fire rating to keep BC happy as there involved, i thought i might give it a go. Have you only ever used this particular brand? I'm down South so I'll see if i can find this gear locally if you reckon its a good one to go with. I'll throw the sts boards up too like you. I've got pretty much the same set up going (timber frame, house wrap, battens & STS board) My question is since I checked the render manufacturer recommendations and they call for 14 day wait after base coat. What do you think? I kinda get that typically manufacturers will cover them selves and always recommend the extra. Thanks for the great video 👍🏻
