My most favorite fish was a white molly. He had only 1 eye. I didnt notice till I got him home. My sister said he looked like Flatbush. My nephew was crazy about that movie at the time. So that's what we named him. Ole Flatbush lived a long time and was the boss of the tank. I was in my teens when I had him. I'm 35 now. I'll never forget him. 🐟💙

Even after 23 years in the hobby, I have one of my tanks dedicated to Platies because I like them so much. Plus, they are so easy to take care of it is nice to be able to relax and watch them going about. I’ve had Mollies, too and like them as well. Your video was on point.

I have a 55 dedicated to Platies and a 55 brackish with Mollies and Figure 8 puffers. Both tanks are awesome but the interaction between the 4 puffers and the Mollies is really fascinating. The way they swim together and play in the bubbles from the sponge filters is great and the number of Molly babbies that survive with that stocking is surprising as well. Amazing fish!!! Great info as usual. I'm a relatively new fish keeper, hitting some bumps along the way, but learning more each week. I have a 13 gallon tank with a couple of platys, a betta, and just picked up two panda garra's yesterday to help clean up some of that brown algae. They all seem to be getting along for the most part with the occasional betta reminding the platys whos boss.

i keep mollies, swordtails, endlers and platies together. I find them all equally hardy ,almost no problems at all. I keep the water around 72 degrees and the hardness a slightly high, and they have been breeding like crazy! I love that they both eat whatever i feed them (blood worms, crisp, flakes, wafers, and brine shrimp. I did have a fungal outbreak at one point, but the few causalities I had were quickly replaced by dozens of fry. Luckily i have a 75 gallon tank, but I would recommend starting with only a few, they reproduce very rapidly.

Happy Monday. Very good topic of discussion. I really prefer platies. They are much more tolerant and hardy little fish. I find their personalities are better, too. They really get along with their tankmates. Recommend keeping 1 male to 3 females at least. The good thing is both males and females are beautiful. Both fish pick at algae, especially string algae, so there's another plus. Overall, great fish in the right setup. Take care.

My mollies are completely freshwater, and breeding like there is no tommarow 🙂I love my standard black mollies, and I agree, these fish can take care of themselves. I have some as “dithers” in my shelldwellers aquarium. When the Shellie’s charge 8 out of 10 times the mollies stand they’re ground! The multis are still able to raise young and nobody is getting hurt. HAPPY MONDAY!!🙂👍🏻

I tried Mollies years ago and never had much luck. I think it's because the ones sold around here were bred in brackish water then sold in fresh. They should really like our local water it sounds perfect for them. When mine were doing the death wobble I slowly added salt to the tank which seemed to help some but I think the shifting from brackish to fresh in the stores then back to brackish did them no good.

When I set up my 29 gal. 2 months ago, I included 4 marble lyretail mollies with guppies, neon tetras, albino corys. At first I lightly salted the water, but noticed that my live plants were not doing so well. After watching a number of YT videos on salt vs. non-salt, I decided to cut out the salt and have gradually water-changed it out. Now plants look great and mollies are amazing. My only regret is that I got 2 pairs of mollies, so the poor girls are being bothered constantly...but they do get after the males when they've had enough!

My platies and Mollies live in peace and harmony together. Predominately a male set up. I made sure my Molly girls were considerably bigger than the guys when I got them. That way they hold their own and not chased to death. When Angela gets annoyed she just shove them out of the way meaning leave me alone right now. And that’s exactly what they do. 😂 The platies love to play and rip and run. They don’t bother anyone but their own. Unless there’s a bully threat and they school in protection and confidence. But I’ve since gotten rid of the bullies and killers. I have other species but they are passive and hiders! My tiger stripe tetras come out mostly at night and they love being the security guards. Omg I swear they never sleep lol. But they keep to themselves too. Once their territory is set they don’t bother anyone. The little chaos I get is around feeding time. But there’s no fighting because I feed them well. Three different types of food on their menu. Not all at once of course but different days they get different things. And occasional snacks. I tried the pea diet but no one really likes that but the mollies. I guess because it resembles algae idk. When everyone goes to their sleeping spot that tells me it’s time to turn the lights off. lol Had to reinforce the lid cover because when the platies see me the almost jump out of the tank trying to get to me. lol My tank is spoiled and they know it. love my set up!! Going on 2 years now! 😊

Off topic guys, but I need to know if I can put my severum in my new angel fish tank? It'll be at least a week before I'll start putting any fish in there.

I have combined them with no issues. I probably wouldn’t do it in anything less than a 75 gallon though.

@@PrimeTimeAquatics yeah it's a 50gal but it's long. I'm rethinking the stocking obviously because I've been planning this tank for months and moths and now it's almost cycled and planted I'm changing my mind twice a day. He's in a 75 with cichlids now and he's fine. He's the biggest fish in the tank by far. I have a platy tank as well. Thanks for the prompt response. You two and Ben Ochart, and American Co-op are the best on KZfaq in my opinion. Sincerely, Liz

Ok I'm going to try and put all the information it can--- HELP!!! LOL 😆 We are fighting a green water issue. We bought a Master Water kit. Tested our water, PH around 6.4/7.0,amoinna 0,nitrate 0 basically all the test were 0. We bought the Mean Green Killing Machine, been in for 2 days, kinda better, we also bought a 6 inch air stone, would the air stone be putting to much oxygen in the tank to keep the alge growing? We are going to retest the water today and do a 50% water change. We only have 5 fish in the tank and it's a fresh water tank. Advice would be much appreciated 👍

I'm sorry this is off topic, but my tanks are being taken over by green hair algae. Have you every used hydrogen peroxide to kill it in your tanks, or to clean plants and other things in the tank by dipping them in peroxide? Thank you!

I haven't tried it mainly because I can remove it by hand in most of my scapes fairly easily. Florida Flag fish also love to eat it!

Mollys are larger, more aggressive and can actually be kept in saltwater. They do better in larger tanks compared to platys as well.
