Instead of making my Sims do things, I let them choose their own paths in life. Here are all the details of how I make it work in Sims 4 including the necessary mods I have to use. Omg, before I started watching your videos I would play sims 4 in a “success focused” style, getting every sim to the top of their career and having every sim ace university, probably because of my own anxieties. Now I love watching sims fail… it creates so much more drama!! Who doesn’t love a good aspiration failure?

Yeah I play succes focused and find playing the sims 4 soooo boring but I love watching other people play, and I like designing in ts4

But fulfillin their whims is the fastest way to get the reward points... it is the best way to play a goal focused Sim - they get there way faster. You rush to get the trait where you don't have to sleep anymore and then exceed in everything. Whims whims whims...

I don't know why i find it so funny that Summer wanted to buy a dishwasher and then wanted to get promoted from her job as head dishwasher.

I also play whims-based and rotationally, and in the BFF household, Travis kept switching whims between Liberty and Summer. Liberty wanted to lock it down, but Summer just wanted a bit of flirtation. And then they both ended up pregnant 😂

Personally I play them as a throuple (Using Wicked/Wonderful Whims to take away their jealousy.) Why make them choose?

@@narbiesims2997 I might end up doing that if all three want to take it seriously. Summer has had zero whims for Travis, and Travis only has woohoo whims for Summer but wants to marry Liberty. I’m intrigued to see what they decide. I had kind of wanted both to throw over Travis and be each other’s BFFs for life lol

Whims based truly is the best way imo. Otherwise all my sims end up being the same and having the same lives where everything is maxed and they reach the top of everything. I'm not the most social person in the world and I don't really understand how humans work that well so I have trouble making diverse personalities that have diverse experiences, they just kind of robotically accomplish things and I end up just being happy if they don't annoy me. But then I get bored after like one generation because doing the same thing over and over isn't fun. Whims forces things to be more interesting and forces diverse personalities I otherwise wouldn't think of.

IMO not only does the sims need to update their whims system, I personally believe scripted events like in TS2 spin offs would also make the game far more enjoyable

Make your own scripted events then roll a dice to choose one THATS one of my unique special ways of playing the game. Like i told people the other day sims4 is very much like D&D you have to use your imagination to get the best out of this game hehe

@@franpel963 1. Late on your bills having some items reposssed. (Stove, TV and Bathroom SINK) 2. Stray pet comes knocking at your door in seek of help and aid. You heart cant bare to see the pain and suffering so you take him/her in. 3. Alien race land in your neighbourhood their interest FIXED on your household. Receive them for a short visit of 3days

Carl is working on a mod that overhaul the goals on dates to be more based on feelings, that gonna improve more these kind of gameplay.

I just tried a whims-based date, and my date was SO much more fun! My guy was playful and wanted to prank his date and she was getting annoyed. 🤣 Definitely breaks up the monotony of the sims always being happy in love. Thank you Cindy!!

Reading these comments, I have to say: Cindy, I've been following you for a year and a half or so, since a bit before the Batuu debacle. I felt the same negativity towards the Sims 4 and I definitely felt satisfaction watching you rant about it, then you made that video saying you didn't want to be that sort of person anymore so you focused instead on Sims 2 and 3 (and your personal life) for awhile. I just wanted to appreciate how far your channel has come, where your comment section is now full of "You've motivated me to play again and/or play differently and now I'm having much more fun!" You've turned your view of the Sims 4 into a positive direction without changing your opinion on it and I love to see it

I know TS4 isn't that deep, but I really liked that Summer wanted to buy a dishwasher for her home while she works as a dishwasher in the culinary career, made it feel like she didn't want to bring her work home

I love this whim/want-based play style! I love how simple it was for you to play out a story right before our eyes using your method. It’s really unfortunate that it requires mods to be successful and that they just totally stopped attending to whims altogether. ☹️

This inspired me to download these mods & play the sims 4 this way. It looks a lot more fun than normal freeplay type of gameplay. I’m so glad the sims 4 has a lot of great modders to save the game from EA (I spoke the truth 😂)

Bienchen means small bee 🐝 It's pronounced bien (sounds exactly like bean) - ch(the closest to an English reference is the beginning of the name Cheyenne. Like Sh but without pressing your teeth together) - en is pronounced exactly like it looks. You were pretty close actually when you said the name!

One of the things that causes me to get burnt out playing the sims 4 is how repetitive my gameplay gets. I feel like I’m always grinding the same skills and following the same path as my previous saves. I’m going to give whims based gameplay a try and add some more randomness to my game by using RNG instead of selecting my sims traits and aspirations on my own. Hopefully it will pushme to explore areas of the game that I normally don’t, and also give me the motivation to actually play through several generations. On a side note, something I have found helpful in making gameplay less repetitive is deleting the base game households and using MCCC to generate and populate the town. I use the dresser options to make sure townies actually wear clothing that makes sense and it seems to work quite well.

In my game I do the love triangle thing a bit differently with the BFFs. Liberty is gay and has a crush on Summer, Summer is straight and has a crush on Travis, but he has a crush on Liberty. I really love these gameplay advice videos. I think I'm gonna attempt to actually play TS4 again and not just build aimlessly anymore.

Oh i love this! I absolutely hate the fact that your Sims rarely fail at anything. Especially with traits like "unflirty"....my unflirty Sim shouldn't find a date easy and enjoyable every time lol

I was so confused when I found out that whims were desabled by default. I thought there's something wrong with my game. Even though I didn't have these amazing mods by then, and my sims constantly rolled the stupid 'buy bee box' whim, it just didn't feel right for a Sims game to not have whims.

I think this video gave me a better handle on why I got tired of the Sims 4 much, much earlier than I did with 2 or 3. I tend to look to the game to give me goals, and have that create an unexpected story. The monotony of Whims and the checklist, unvarying nature of many other tasks got dull pretty quickly.

This is totally game changing! I already use bienchen’s whim overhaul but the second mod (need to go back and check the name) seems so great! And I need to try wonderful whims. I always played wants based with previous games and always hated that the sims 4 makes it so hard and I have to keep coming up with what to do next to keep it interesting on my own. It’s so tiresome. You already have me playing rotationally (not something I did with previous games), and I was having much more fun. So excited to try these new mods and get a more “natural” wants-based game

I remember when I first found your sims 2 videos, you explained why you love the wants and fear mechanics very similar to the vibes in this video. IT BLEW MY MIND!!! I played a little bit of the sims 3 when I was a lot younger, but I had the most of my sims exposure from the sims 4, so I new nothing other than the “success driven” gameplay style made popular by the biggest sims KZfaqrs. Now, here I am, highly preferring the game that was born the same year I was. This is why you’re my favorite KZfaqr! I thought I loved the sims before I started watching you, but now that I know about the sims 2 and have all of the amazing skills and playing techniques you’ve taught us about the game, I REALLY LOVE THE SIMS!! Sims 2 is definitely my favorite game of all time and if luck is on my side I’ll be playing it till I’m an old lady 😂 I haven’t touched sims 4 in over a year now, ofc there’s things I still adore about that game, and recently I’ve been watching sims 4 let’s plays again. Nobody can deny how beautiful the sims 4 worlds and CAS CC is. But you’re opening me back up to the game again recently, and honestly we all see the change in your feelings about the sims 4 ever since you figured out how to make the gameplay perfect for you :3 Love you cindy!!! I love your way of playing the Sims. I never played this way before unti l I found your amazing Sims 2 Pleasant View series and I fell in love with it so much. It adds so much more fun to the game. I ain't gon lie, when this video came up in my feed, I was like, "I ain't gonna watch that, I know how to play whims based...😒," but continuing with honesty, I picked up a few things. Firstly, I didn't know about Bienchen's whim mod. I'm impressed ('😒 EA could never'). I have "More personality please" but since this only really affects conversation and autonomous actions, I'm interested in the personality mod adding aspiration trait rewards and whims. That was a good plug. 👏🏾😃👏🏾😉👏🏾 Then, I usually prefer my sims to succeed, but playing the way you play, especially in regards to dates (etc) will definitely refresh the goaled activities and events. Thanks, Cindy, this will definitely make this game I've been playing 7 years feel like something a little newer. 😘 This is what I thought it would be like when I first started playing. (Again, EA could never... but you found a way.)

This is REVOLUTIONARY! Feels llike you've introduced a whole new game to me and I've been playing Sims for over 10 years lol. I used to do this when playing The Sims 2 but I never tried it with Sims 4 (because the Whims suck). Thank goodness for You and for modders! Great video as always.

I've had both these mods ever since you first mentioned them but I've never really focused on playing whims based. Yet again, you've inspired me to try! Btw, I'm sure you know about Carl's Sims mod that he's working on, but recently he announced the dating rework where it matches with Sims 2 (I think?) style rather than goals. I LOVE that because my problem with goal-based dates is 1) they're the same all the time, and 2) if you tell jokes before the goal pops up they won't count, you have to flirt or 'sit and talk to your date' first. If you want to kiss your date, you need to first both be flirty and tell 3 jokes. I want the freedom to do whatever my Sim wants to on a date, and focus on interacting as a whole. So, that aspect of his mod I think will be a must have for me (and you!) ;D

I have been playing a generation of eight sims 4 household rotationally +whims based with these mods (and lots of others that I believe add to realism like woohoo wellness, kuttoe's career overhaul, etc lol) for the past couple months and it has completely changed the game for me. I think the reason that people burn out so quickly with the sims is that people don't rotationally and it gets sooo boring just playing one household for their whole life. I went from playing the sims as much as I could for a couple days, a week at the max, and then getting bored for a couple months before starting the cycle again. But since I found your videos and got inspiration from the way you play The Sims 2 and I changed to this type of playstyle, I've been wanting to play much more regularly. Having multiple sims that you are playing at the same time really makes it soo much easier to let them "fail" in life as well imo, because when you only have one legacy household that you play it feels like a lot more pressure for some reason. I never played the Sims 2 or 3, and honestly the graphics are just too rough for me even with overrides. So as a sims 4 only player, I can confidently say I would recommend this playstyle to everyone to at least try, even if they aren't just trying to relive the playstyle of those old games!

I have a similar gameplay strategy!!! I love using the whims since I’m not very creative with drama and I like to have things happen somewhat organically. I also use the Whims overhaul and I love using the First Impressions mod and the Wonderful Whims mod because that also helps with storytelling while meeting new sims. And the attraction system from the Wonderful Whims mod really helps with the romantic partner selection. They basically tell you who they’re attracted to.

The pronunciation of Bienchen was really good. A bit too fast but for a non-native you did the ch especially well.

You have really open up a new world of fun for me, I have been really HOOKED on playing this way in sims 3! i have played this game since it came out, and sims 4 has been the biggest disappointment ever, but even the sims 4 can be a little (very little but still hahaha) fun with this kind of play style! Thank you so very much for all of your videos, and a extra thank you for stikk giving us so much content for the sims 3 and 2, those games are my life, and you are easily my nr 1 channel ! 😃💟

Ahh thank you so much for this video, so inspiring to play the game again! I personally prefer the whim based gameplay, I love them since the sims 2 times, it was sad to realize the whims are not as meaningful as they used to be in the previous games, but still I prefer to follow them when I play. Though sometimes it's hard for me to follow sims' whims in every occasion because I'm a perfectionist and all my sims achieve top of their careers and get perfect dates 🤣
