I paid a visit to Playback Arcade in my home city of Bristol last weekend. The main reason I wanted to go there was after finding out they had a #ScudRace cabinet, a game I've not played on real hardware in well over 20 years.
If the location looks familiar, it's because it's the site of the old History of Video Games exhibition/retro arcade that I've visited a few times before.

Lucky bastard! Haven't seen a Scud Race cab in nearly a decade, surprised to see a standup cab but it's probably less intensive to keep in working condition haha

I agree with you about access and usage ... I would say, though, that with a barcade then tokens are literally the *only* way to go. I would even restrict tokens to only being available with the purchase of a drink of somekind.

looks like they really did a good job with this place now, nice video dude. the glasses cam worked alright too

Thanks dude! Yeah, it's not a bad piece of kit for something I picked up off the internet for £40. I just wish the sound quality was a bit better with it.

thanks for popping by, yes this is another arcade I do work at (from time to time I add), the GP is with me and I haven't been hurried but I am hoping to get that back soon. I haven't been in for a while and I can see they got more on the floor, there is Many Many more machines not on display, but for the location there is a really decent balance. With regards Model 3 (one of the hardest to keep going), then checkout Exeter's Boneyard Arcade for M2 and M3 (and they maybe closing soon so hurry). As with camera, you better off just filming, Mark and Nick would have been fine with it is as is Timewarp and Boneyard.

Wow Dave, didn't realise you got about so much. Boneyard's been on my potential to do list for awhile, I'd heard elsewhere they possibly might be closing soon though. The hands free camera wasn't to try and film stuff surreptitiously or anything, I wanted to be able to film hands free, so I could get some POV footage. I've had to try and record one handed before when I'm playing stuff and it doesn't really work.

Thanks for the video Al. Not heard of this place before, but it certainly looks worth visiting. Never seen an Alex Kidd coin-op before either, so they clearly have some unusual stuff.

Likewise, I've never seen an Alex Kidd coin-op before either, it jumped out at me as being a bit of an oddity (although, having said that, I didn't actually bloomin' well play it). I'm going to have to track it down in MAME.

@@MrThunderwing I'd like a pound for every time I've come across an unusual coin-op and not ended up playing it (usually because I'm too busy playing OutRun!). Maybe you do another video reviewing Arcade Alex Kidd! :-)

Looks awesome mate. A great selection of games and as they're aware the Scud Race is a little broken and they're going to try and fix it, hopefully next time you'll get a proper play in! I'm hoping I can get on down at some point and give the place a go. Loved the use of the SoR remake music in the background as well
