Some background on this Firepower. I pieced what I could back together from 2 or 3 parts machines that were all severly stripped by the operator. None of the machines were even close to working. One was even flame charred/melted if you could believe it. As to the cut wiring, definitely not me, suspect the operator wrote off the machines I picked thru in a dark & wet warehouse and never planned to repair them ever. You can only save so many of these games! Please keep in mind most of the old operators have no love for these games at all, it was all about money for a lot of them. I had to crawl/climb through his warehouse to retrieve what I could while paying for what I got. The playfield and most of the plastics are from Classic Playfield Reproductions (CPR). Thankfully we have master troubleshooters, Ron and Joe to help!! Thx again guys, it plays great!

Crazy. Done playfield swaps.. carefully, slowly and no cuts.. if there were 2 or 3 playfields behind this project.. supplying another would have saved one heck of a lot of head scratching and schematic poring. And screws, brackets, lamp holders, terminal blocks to use as replacements etc etc... Doh!!! Mind you - learning curve.. didn't know about fusing the bridge rectifier on my pinbot - until - 4 days after buying it - all the wires burned up - virtually to the transformer.. baptism of fire as they say. Thanks anyhow Ron for the video.. Joe - this one was real broke.. c'mon Joe.. 😁 Greets from the UK..

Actually was only able to choose from 3 or so playfields. One was melted and charred, the other was less intact, which was not saying much for the one I did chose.
@BillFroog
@BillFroog Жыл бұрын
Ouch.. I guess charred is kind of a choice! Only playfield I've had a duplicate of was a Minizag where every screw was so rusted into the wood, such that every post or switch or lamp snapped when removed. Sure glad I managed to find another.. especially as the 2nd still had all the playfield paint! (Well most anyway). Fair play, if that is the result of the best bits of three, you did well - and it's going to be a beautiful machine at the end. Apologies for jumping to conclusions - I've obviously been luckier than I thought! It's a crazy, fabulous hobby keeping these machines alive - one I'm dedicating my retirement to! One day I'll be lucky enough to get a Firepower/Centaur/EBD, for now it's mainly EMs.. which is why I especially love Ron's take on celebrating them all! Have fun!

You’re working your way through all this real good. …not sure why so many wires were disconnected from their switch. …. This wasn’t entirely necessary just to swap the playfield. … your buddy is lucky he has you to sort this out. … What’s $30 X 30 hours?? I reckon that’s about what this job should cost. …. but he’s a friend so ….??

The wiring looks like a bit of a nightmare, but I can see how it can be broken down and tackled to make it easier. The worst thing to me (blame my OCD) is having all those cut wires in a way that makes the original wires too short and requiring joins. That sort of thing plays with my head and I don't understand why they couldn't be cut closer to the actual switch or bulb so there was enough wire left to solder without a join. Just me. You did an amazing job working this out and getting it as good as you have done. Have to admit, that playfield looks absolutely amazing.
@jameswacker3827
@jameswacker3827 Жыл бұрын
I wondered too, why, why why.. the best answer I came up with was the operator had no intention of fixing and just wrote off machine and pulled the part quick and dirty, just like in a junkyard.
@kenrichmond3946

I think they do this on purpose so if the machine is sold it can't be easily placed into service by a competitor. Common to remove coin mechs, too.

The way I see it, if the board can be saved, and not at a cost greater than a new board, then you should save the existing board. But lets say a new board costs $200, and the cost to fix the existing one is $400, then you may as well just get the new board. Though even then I dunno. To me, there's something about the old boards that just fits better, there is no guarantee the new board is going to have all the quirks that the old board had, which means a lot of the character of the game suddenly vanishes.
@jameswacker3827
@jameswacker3827 Жыл бұрын
Yeah I agree for the most part, but the board was so worn, I had to because I felt with so much artwork gone it unfortunately affected the feel and play of the machine.

Hi Carl; Welcome to the channel! When I was a teenager my brother Joey and I bought an arcade game from the local arcade and our dad brought it home in his van. We broke the thing, then fixed it and messed around with it for awhile, turning it into another game, etc. and kind of learned how they work a little bit. Then I got a job in my 20's working for an operator, and you have to learn how to work on them on location so they'll keep making money! (I earned a commission) ... We started buying games on the side and working on them a little bit, and eventually just learned more and more, when you work on them you just learn things as you go and kind of get an understanding of how they work. When I was first learning, I learned a lot of what I know from www.PinRepair.com Clay's site, he's one of the best in the world at working on them! We'll see you on the next video!

That play field swap was done so poorly. You don't have to cut the wires. From the looks of it the only wires that were a problem were the general illumination since they are attached with staples.
@LyonsArcade
