- Marble tests are back, after months of redesigning and rethinking the machine is finally ready to start the marble testing again, in this first test i am using the snare drum channel and the hihat machine - how many marbles will end up on the floor? Place your bets!!!
THANK YOU to all the Wintergatan Patreons and Wintergatan Channel Members, your support has made this project possible. We are now 10000 people in this amazing corner of the internet - thank you.

This is incredible, it should be the work of a dozen experts- a carpenter, a welder, an engineer, a CNC guy, an electrician, a song writer, a pianist, a guitarist, a percussionist, a sound engineer, a film maker, it blows my mind how one young person can create such a masterpiece. Even though I had nothing to do with this, the design, the construction, the music or anything - I have been here since the start of this project and it was a major sigh of relief when that 10000th marble landed and zero failures. You should be so proud of everything you've accomplished, every skill you've learned and mastered, you went and created your own niche. From artist to engineer and back again - you're finally after all these years almost there. I'm so glad that I've gotten to at the very least be a spectator.

HOLY POTATOES I DIDN'T KNOW SM57's CAME ANGLED LIKE THAT! Man, as a fellow engineer and musician, I am absolutely blown away by your drive, passion, skill and approach to problem solving. You are an inspiration, sir. I wouldn't be worthy to dust this machine off after a performance. When the World Tour kicks off, and if we're lucky enough to be blessed by your presence in America, please consider a stop at Clemson University in South Carolina! My alma mater is a science and engineering school with no real formal music program, but a full suite of performing ensembles made up of multi-talented engineers, architects and scientists, all who would love to see the Marble Machine X in action!

The expectation buildup with instruments added each time... when the msic finally came together after the 10000th marble dropped, I had tears coming to my eyes, because I could feel Martin's feelings, I could see the end of the journey and the relief of it all. Finally, music with MMX! It feels like Martin has achieved an insane milestone, and now just has to repeat the same known and proven process for the other channels. No more surprises, right? Live concert by the end of the Summer, right? This feels absolutely good, and I can't wait for this channel to transition from an engineering channel to a music composing channel. I loved the engineering channels, I'll love the music composing channel even more because of its journey.

You took the words right out of my mouth, I wish. Thank you. 1920 my father's father, a mailman in Twin Falls, Idaho bought a Monarch Baldwin player piano for his family; wife's family from Malmo, Sweden. 9 kids and 60 grandchildren later, I fortunately had put so many years training as a pianist from Maria Levinskaya Pianoforte School, London, UK and voice from Mrs. Sailor, who taught voice in New York City for 55 years. She told me Pavorotti was trained in New York City. She said she knew that because Pavorotti's teacher also taught her. So of my 59 siblings and cousins I was fortunate to inherit this marvellous piano. The guts are long gone but the tone is beyond belief. Example: I also raised 9 children, whose mother was so beyond belief that her grandfather, hard worker and lay minister told her she could have done so much better. Of course I was hurt but I knew he was right. He married a girl from Switzerland. She probably felt the same. Anyway I entertained at Old Faithful Inn for several years and in addition to being active in my Church, trying to be a good husband and father, raising them from money earned as a career graphic artist 40 to 50 hours a week spent 30 hours a week for 5 years composing one song. My poor piano had dozen of cards in between the hammers to keep them going straight to their strings. My family said they thought the piano would crash through the ceiling to the living room because I played so hard. 27 minutes long. Lyrics took 3 weeks to write, but I'm still trying to perfect piano and voice to fit the mood of my lyrics. So thank you for your comments about this wonderful music making machine.

Languages should NOT bend to the will of the people, because there is no point of having it in the first place if you are going to change meanings at a whim. Adding new words, or updating definitions after a few decades of new usages, however is not bending the language, it is expanding it. Perhaps that is what you meant. When you use bend, it implies a structural change, and that can lead to LESS accurate communication, which is a BAD thing.

Martin, congrats on this milestone! It looks like the right side clock escapement is not functioning properly. The gear is not actually interacting with the bottom pallet. The slo-mo at 18:07 shows this really well.
@Zoltan54
@Zoltan54 2 жыл бұрын
It appear that Martin added a metal pin which is engaging the escapement wheel instead of the bottom pallet. Likey a prototype addition trying to remedy the runaway escapement under high marble pressure. This may be a one off design that is no longer necessary because of the pressure reducing wiggles and would explain why it's never mentioned. If it is needed, look forward to it in a future video!
@mcbeenb
@mcbeenb 2 жыл бұрын
Yea something has gone seriously wrong here and not covered in the video. The bottom of the escapement IS the regulator. I'm wondering is the problem is how far those fingers are moving away from the escapement (looks like over 10cm). It is excessive and will slow the machine down too. Ideally it would only move a cm or two.

I might be wrong on this but i think its the spring strength in combination with the fact that the force created from the teeth is out of alignment with the point or rotation of the pallet(tik tok part) thus creating a moment (force*distace). Someone can correct me if im wrong. I still dont get why he didnt go with the broken escapement mechanism which was not pressure sensitive. He talked about less parts in that vid and then overengineered these mechanisms(imo) with so many parts, although i like all of it except the fact that he created this spring linkage and didnt use the broken escapement. Maybe theres more behind this someone could fill us in if hes been on discord.

There is a design error. The bottom pallet/tooth angle is not at right angles to the pallet pivot, which means the pallet can "cam out" when the wheel is pushed hard enough. The cad team have a fix designed and tested. Means new wheels and pallets, but the rest of the gate can be unchanged.

That was the most impressive journey through the life of a product development ever. And of a developer as well. I took me three days for all 172 videos on this channel and I realized more and more how much the marble machine X and Martin overlap with my professional life. In real life, I'm a member of a team that develops products for fiber optic infrastructure. Such as connection closures, fiber optic distribution cabinets and wall boxes. The team gets bigger and bigger in the course of product development, because more and more tasks are added up to industrialization and series production. But we start with three people. The CAD designer, the maker (me) and the planner. These three people form the core team from the first idea and accompany the product through to the first delivery to our customers. It was extremely exciting for me to see how Martin embodies these three tasks, sometimes more sometimes less. With the marble machine X, I learned a lot about the interplay of roles and overcoming boundaries and restrictions. Thank you for these instructive hours. I think they will be helpful when working on my team.
