Pierce Brooks was supposed to be in the NBA. That’s what everyone told him as a kid. Instead, he discovered that pivoting through pressure is important for achievement in our lives.
Former college athlete and current national field marketing director, Pierce Brooks brings his unique insights into focus. He helps us recognize when we feel pressured to be someone we're not, and what to do about it. Pierce Brooks is Director, National Field Marketing for one of the largest brands in an explosive new industry. Pierce’s professional expertise encompasses entertainment, sports, and field marketing strategy. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Very well spoken speech especially highlighting that "the key to freeing [oneself] from the prison of negative social pressure..." is not caring if we miss our shot but having the confidence to take it." Truly inspiring!

Aroosa, thanks for your comment- absolutely that was the key for me. Finding what I liked and then not being attached to any metric of “success” besides what felt right in my heart. Once I found that, it was time to shoot my shot! Miss or make, that is what I will continue to do! 🙏🏽

My girlfriend and I listened to your Tedex speech this morning and wow, It's super powerful! More people need to hear what you have to say. I lived half my life trying to get approval from my father. He is also a musician and I could never perform to his standards. I could relate to your story as I'm sure many do.

Raymond, many thanks to and your girlfriend for watching. Thank you for sharing that about your father. If it is what you love- I hope you continue to play, and play to the beat of your own drum. As long as you form your own standards and are satisfied (and inspired) by them that’s what matters in the end! 🙏🏽

I am glad he is ok now and has a great job but at the same time I believe he had it relatively easy as handsome tall man with sports background. It is not as easy for women as you have to add pressure with marriage and having kids and disadvantage at a workplace (statistically).
