I'm sorry, man, but many of my friends don't even live in a country where PSN is available. So yeah, fighting for the right to play a game you bought without this obligation is just... normal. You lose the right to have a game you bought fair and square without any of this bullshit. So no, even if a refund is allowed (thank god for Steam), this is a very dirty move everyone needs to complain about, imo.

You cannot compare true global accounts to psn. Also I actively avoid games with other launchers unless necessary. Helldivers will recover because it’s a good game, look at dragons dogma 2.

This was far, FAR from being the same as Epic Game Store situation. I made accounts for the following game services: Rockstar (GTA Online), Origin (Titanfall), Warframe, Prodeus and much more. What Sony was doing was extremely different, firstly their security was said to be a track record of getting hacked but that isn't the only problem, Sony asks for picture ID (I don't see Epic, EA, etc. doing the same thing), Sony also broke gamer promises by changing their Tos/FAQ by originally saying making an account was 'optional', but the number 1 worst thing about it was the mass region locking. Region locking hurts people that have bought the games, especially the gifted copies because it is hard to refund that. Don't cherry-pick ukraine because the region-lock had way more than just countries like that. Even in countries that had no-affect, it is still bad because of the possibility that people can travel and not every square-mile in those countries are in poverty. Not everyone is an athlete and they need to find relaxation/entertainment when they have the chance. Had Helldivers 2 release with those restrictions day-1 then it wouldn't be an issue.

Either way you look at it it's Sony fault. Maybe if they hadn't put Helldivers 2 on PC then there wouldn't be no backlash, even if you think the whole situation is overblown

It's not a question of "simply making an account". I live in the UK and in order for me to create a PSN account I have to submit biometric data by way of a photograph or ID (drivers license/passport). PSN is about the least secure gaming network on the planet and them having my contact information (phone number required) or biometric data just isn't happening.

The only reason they backtracked was because of the amount of people the game affected in terms of who would no longer be able to play since PSN isn't in their country. With Helldivers being as big as it is, this was obviously the ONLY option they had right now. Requiring a PSN account on PC is not going away lol, they're just going to go about it in a smarter way. PC gamers could have made 20 PSN accounts in the amount of time they spent posting bad reviews and angry tweets online . One of the dumbest outrages I’ve ever seen. And don’t talk about “we don’t wanna give our information to corporations” when you gave your info to Steam to download the game, Discord to talk to your friends while gaming and Twitter, KZfaq, Reddit etc. to complain about it online.

I think a lot of people are unaware of Steams involvement in this.

It wouldn't have been an issue if they did the PSN sign-in from the start. What made this big was that they required it later on, and many PC players don't trust Sony and play PC to use Steam. So, if it was from the start, many people wouldn't have bought the game to start with, but having the PSN be requited later on was a scummy move, intentional or not. Glad they revered it!

The craziest part is when the CEO said majority of PC players linked their PSN before it was officially announced. When they said the PSN is for their safety and Sony has a track record of data beaches, I knew it was going to go down horribly for Sony. They should have just been transparent saying it's for their shareholders and give it the option to link PSN for a reward or something. Like they did with the Spiderman games, getting an exclusive costume.
