Lovely bones and interesting discussion. I'd imagine both yourself and Steve make regular checks to be sure not to loose any material that's eroding out from the site. It would be a shame if other collectors innocently found and kept bone material from this location. It all needs to stay together. At the same time you can't tell anyone else except the closest and most trusted fossiling friends. Thank you for showing us.

I first discovered the site and excavated pectoral bones from it in 2006 and then made a further large excavation in 2010. Since my initial discovery two other collectors have also excavated bones from the site. My finds have all been gifted to The Etches Collection and the nation for everyone to enjoy. My deep wish is that the other collectors will also gift their finds from this pliosaur to The Etches Collection so that this important specimen can be kept together. Steve thinks it is probably the same species of pliosaur as the one I discovered for the Attenborough film. If that is the case then I will have discovered this new species twice.

Brilliant to see the in-situ photographs (the equally interesting, but oft omitted data)

Yes I try to photograph my digs step by step as there is important data for science that can be missed.

Ahhh so it’s been nicknamed sea rex has it? I still prefer the kimmeridge colossus name but it’s good to see it has a nickname.

When I first dicovered the Attenborough one I called it "Zelensky" but the BBC wouldn`t let me use that name, so they changed it to Sea-Rex. This other pliosaur is called "Gnasher".

@@philipjjacobs why does the BBC have dominion over your discovery? Also I hate the constant comparisons to Tyrannosaurus. It isn’t the ultimate carnivore to be compared to.

@@DreadEnder The BBC invested a lot in the program so couldn`t risk anything that might make the footage unbroadcastable. Though he will always be Zelensky to my pals and I. Just like my Ichthyosaur is called "Britney" and my other two pliosaurs are "Gnasher" and "Mr Big".
