Back in 1969, one of our cruising buddies, at Hermosa Beach California, had a 68 GTX,, red black vinyl top, black interior pistol grip, 426 hemi, Crager's, huge big fat tires in the back, a low geared posi,, on freaking believable fast,, it was damn near pull the front end off the ground...

Ah, Hermosa Beach in '69 - what a scene! A '68 GTX with a 426 Hemi and all the trimmings? That’s the stuff of legends. With Crager's and those massive rear tires, it sounds like it could practically lift off like a rocket. Absolutely mind-blowing. Those were the days when cars weren’t just driven; they were unleashed. Bloody brilliant!

As a teen I wanted one of these SO BAD. They fail to mention the biggest problem with the car. It came with the option of the 440 hurst trac pack. Which under hard acceleration would throw a timing chain like it was a piece of string. You ended up having to convert it over to timing gears. But it did make a very nice whine just like it had a supercharger

Ah, the Plymouth GTX - the teenage dream car that could also double as a master class in mechanical headaches. That 440 Hurst Trac Pack was a beast, no doubt, but you're right. It did have a knack for throwing timing chains like confetti. Converting to timing gears, now that's a clever fix. And that whine?
