Kilmarnock FC's manager, Derek McInnes, reflects on his nomination for Manager of the Year and the recognition of his players' achievements.
When asked about his nomination for Manager of the Year, McInnes expressed his pleasure, acknowledging that such accolades are always appreciated, although he noted that as one matures in the profession, personal awards may not carry the same weight as they once did. Nevertheless, McInnes admitted that being nominated was a pleasant surprise, highlighting the significance of the recognition.
The conversation then turned to the absence of any of his players in the PFA Team of the Year, a topic that left McInnes somewhat surprised. He admitted to having observed the Team of the Year, acknowledging the presence of several strong players who had performed exceptionally well throughout the season. However, McInnes confessed to being disappointed, even surprised, by the absence of one or two of his own players from the lineup. Despite this, he remained optimistic about his team's capabilities, expressing confidence that they could match up against any team, despite the absence of recognition in this instance.
McInnes emphasized the collective effort required for a club to achieve consistent success. He pointed to various factors, including cohesive teamwork, effective recruitment strategies, and strong performances from the players, as key elements contributing to the club's overall success. McInnes highlighted the significance of such nominations as indicators of a club's well-functioning structure and Kilmarnock FC's ability to deliver results consistently in the Scottish Premiership.

Could listen to McInnes talking all day. They way he discussed Watson and Ferguson was almost paternal, he demonstrably cares greatly about the welfare of these guys and offers a steady hand of guidance in the early stages of their careers. It's at odds with the modern game. He doesn't just see them as financial commodities. McInnes is very down to earth and very real. Great to see him succeeding again

Loved Del when he was the Dons Boss and was gutted when he left!!! Glad he’s managed to build a team at Kilmarnock and prove he’s still a successful manager. Scotland Manager for the future!!! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Derek McInnes is one of my favourite coaches because he always has his teams like Aberdeen and Kilmarnock comfortably finishing in the top half of the table with no resources at all every year and long may it continue!!

Brilliant interview, I think we all know the reason why he never took the Rangers job, because Rangers didn't want Tony Doc as his assistant .

If Derek were to manage a bigger club would he forego his rugged defensive style for a good on the eye style? Could he?

He was extremely close to managing a bigger club & I mean extremely close. But he went with his brain not his heart in the end it was an extremely difficult choice for him in the end. My Uncle Andy is very good friends with his brother still they where in the same year at Castlehead. From what his brother told my Uncle at the time his brother was convinced he was going to make the move yo Rangers as manger only for Derek to have a last minute change of mind but it was closer than was made public he just did not feel everything was the way he thought it should have been at Ibrox at that time.

Parkhead and Hampden have had enough green and white confetti to sink a "tanker" in last ten years yet you tims still resort to the always cheated never defeated pish, embarrassing. Mcinnes is a very decent guy who has skelped both old firm teams this season so dry your green tinted specs.

@@edwarddonnachie1565 My uncle went was in the same year as Derek's younger brother & is still very good friends with his brother Derek is a good guy he dose not let his heart rule his head if he did I 100% agrentee he would of been Rangers manager but he went with his brain & his brain told him to stay at Aberdeen he could see things where not as they should of been at Ibrox. If it was a Timothy is suggesting Derek would of long since been Rangers managers regardless of what was the situation at Ibrox at that time. One thing we can say 100% Derek is not ruled buy his heart regardless of what Timothy would have you believe.
