A 50:50 mix of vacuum pump oil and diesel is the best lubricant for clippers tom. Wd40 not great on them

The bib and brace are fab with the pocket what are they called ! We always clip our cows when they come in for winter to stop them sweating and it does work ... Always look forward to Tuesdays and Fridays keep up the good work .

As a first timer ive been raising bottle calves for two years now and ive got pretty good at it i had bought two waygu calves last year and one ended up getting pnemonia sadly he died within a day luclikly a friend came and helped me save the other one as she developed symptoms she is huge now and just turned one its something you need to act quick on love your hairdressing skills im going to try shearing my sheep not sure how they will look when done but i want to give it a go i love to learn new things ebay have good looking clippers on there and cheap too

The backwards hat and the 'brace exchange' (couldn't catch the name) with the pocket is cool and all, but being a dairycowfarmer makes you the coolest already ;) love your videos Tom, been watching for roughly a year now and I love to see how it's done in GB (I work at a dairyfarm in the Netherlands) And goats are cool and all, but cows over goats, always

Great tip tom. Pneumonia can cause so much damage. You cant expect to have good healthy cows if u didnt have good healthy calves. Quiet animals come from good herdpersons

Alright Tom great content. If your buying new clippers, go for sheep shears rather than cattle clippers, because the sheep shears are quicker and if their a bit dirty on top they don't gum up like the cattle clippers do.

Hi Tom, thanks for the really informative video! We've been having some trouble with viral respiratory infections among the calves, so we're looking into clipping their backs to see if that would help. Can you recommend any clippers/machines like the one you're using? Also, I vote for cows AND goats! :D

With clippers check you have the right blades x As they come in several diffrent blade types from fine to coarse u might need a diffrent blade the hair on my maxi cob is really coarse and the blades that came with the clippers are a night mare to clip him with Might be worth ordering a few diffrent blade types We use lister clippers with a battery pack but have a cable to connect to a 12v car or lesuire battery so no mains power needed there great Crack on keep farming 💜

Please tell us dairy farmers your dairy does more then this to assure your herds health ! Do you have modern system (computers daily data on entire herd data time system for inoculations how do you monitor your data ? How do you control the inside of your barns environments how many times a day/week do you clean the beds? It would be of great help if you could explain to everyone what where looking at.

This was very informative, I know cows are often done after going into sheds but I have never witnessed calves shaved but if it keeps their body temperature more consistent then whose to argue as pneumonia doesn't wait around for anyone. Cold nights coupled with warm days is pneumonia territory. I am wondering if a shed with pens for small calves should be more closed down and an industrial fan regulated by the addition of a temperature sensor would not be the Holy Grail. On the note of cell count I'm impressed as these cows are inside and under more stress than normal since their normal environment is outside on the pasture. How often do you milk record and do you do it yourself or does a company assist you?. Strep Uberis is a bitch cos it transfers on the milk clusters but I guess pre dipping helps with that. Cluster dipping is the worst experience on earth if it is not automatically applied unless one just dips the milk clusters from the few known cows in a bucket of peracetic acid and water, that would work out pretty good.

Cows goats are cute but I don't like goat products just like sheep other then wool . Thanks for the video all . Never thought about shaving the backs like that for prevention like that . Makes since to me . Heidi knows how to pacify those baby's he he he . Shes got the touch .
