Both pneumonic and bubonic plague have very distinct physical symptoms. I could see an initial mistaken diagnosis, but by the time the first patient died, it should be clear what it was. We have bubonic plague out west in the USA, but not pneumonic plague.

I mean ones a virus and ones a bacteria, like..... everything about these diseases are different, there would be zero excuse for it. Also, the treatmennt for this is basic anti-biotics, which is usually the first thing they give you even without a diagnosis. This shows dumb.

You can have pneumonic plague after the first bubonic plague. So west can have pneumonic plague/ bubonic/ septicemic. So pneumonic plague can occur youd just typically need a bubonic plague case then that becomes secondary pneumonic which is able to be transmitted to the next person as primary pneumonic

Coughing is also a symptom of MERS so... It's a tv show. I also like the fact that after touching the cover of a dead body with a highly contagious illness, she runs in and starts touching everything and talking to people and the antibiotics arrive swiftly. Nothing about it was realistic, but it was entertaining.

As someone who knows nothing about medicine, every time I see one of these scenes I have to ask 'What is the harm of giving them the meds if she's wrong?' I've received the wrong meds after a misdiagnosis before. The wrong meds did nothing for my illness, but they didn't make me worse. I understand that this could happen, but it's something I'd like to see more often on these shows. 'What if you're wrong?' Then the meds will do nothing and they're no worse off?

I took the wrong meds for migraine headaches for thirty years! FINALLY one observant neurologist saw my weeping eye and asked if I had a stuffy nostril on the same side. She diagnosed me with a rare headache called a Sunct headache. With proper medication I finally learned what it felt like to be without a headache. The wrong meds didn't hurt me but they were costly. So Hey! If your migraine meds aren't working for you don't wait thirty years to get a second opinion.

@eternal7912
@eternal7912 4 ай бұрын
Its more complicated than that. Yersinia Pestis can cause three different forms of plague based on what part of your body is infected. Bunonic Plague is what you get from flee bites which infects your lymphatic system and has a mortality rate of around 15% with treatment, and 50% without. Septicemic Plague is when it infects the blood and has a mortality rate of 40% with treatment, and basically 100% without. Pneumonic Plague is obviously when it gets into the respiratory system, and requires treatment pretty much immediately as symptoms start to show, or else your done in about 24 hours or less. Pneumonic is what they were dealing with here, and records from the time of the Black Death report people dying over night, even sometimes going to bed feeling fine.

Horrible scene. The bacteria that causes tbosck death is huge and easily seen under a kids school microscope. Very first thing they do in lab after prep sample is microscope check before even doing any other test. Also if it's an unknown transmittable the lab would drop all other s immediately. Lol and touching stuff no gloves etc just totally ridiculous. Lol and the waiting for CDC orders total bull crap. Sure they get notice and will assist but they don't give orders to individual hospitals or even gov't. They give guidelines and suggestions from which the surgeon general would consider or that states equivalent would and it would be them or one of their lackeys giving the order along with public health officials for that district. CDC like WHO again only give suggestions guidelines etc they do not make policy or enforce it either except internal

@eternal7912
@eternal7912 4 ай бұрын
Not necessarily. Plague is all over the world, and typically it starts out as Bubonic from flee bites, but it can progress into the lungs and become Pneumonic. From there, it can spread from person to person like any respiratory illness. In fact, based on medieval records, its unlikely the Black Death spread primarily through rats and flees, when there was no documentation of such a thing. Rather it started with the flees, possibly used that method to reach far away places, and then turned into Pneumonic Plague in some people here and there and then spread like wildfire from person to person.
