Here are 5 of my favorite Big Ideas from "Breathe" by Dr. Belisa Vranich. Hope you enjoy!
Breathing. It’s obviously important. And... I’m beginning to realize just how important it is. In fact, breathing properly is quickly becoming my #1 fundamental. Belisa Vranich is a clinical psychologist and one of the world’s leading experts on how to breathe right. In this Note, we take a quick peek at why breathing is so important, learn how to measure your Vital Lung Capacity, observe the difference between Clark Kent and Superman and get to work on training the most important and underappreciated muscle in your body (hint: your diaphragm).

Greg LeMond was at the forefront of breath training in professional cycling. He emphasised diaphramic breathing, breathing training and avoiding panting under exertion. If you watch any of the old videos of his riding, it looks like he is hardly working. And how far did that get him? If it wasn't for the lead poisoning he got from a shotgun wound he would have been one of the greatest to spin the pedals.

Great video! Read the oxygen advantage, need to check this one out next! I've been trying to make deep breathing a habit, but I find I revert back to shallow breathing when I'm not consciously monitoring myself. Has anyone here made deep breathing a habit? If so, how did you do it? And how long did it take you?

Hey, Brian! Thank you for the coaching call we had about 6 months ago. It meant a lot to me to "meet" one of my Heroes. :-) You're looking great/radiantly alive, and it's incredibly inspiring seeing you so committed to churning out those 50 (thousand) pounds of pots. For my part lately, there's been creation of a lot of air castles/dreams lately, but when I see your astonishing consistency in producing great work, I feel that the time must come to start adding some bricks to those air castles and actally CREATE something! Also, the breathing advice you gave me (and everyone here) has been going extremely well; I now breathe through my nose 99% of the time, and it's astonishing how calmly I can stay at a decent level of intensity/heart rate while running! I also just feel better in general during the days. Here's to being Heroic Philosophers!! Frode

The less breathing we take, the more oxygen we get. I totally agree with the idea that oxygen and blood are prime sources to optimize our brain and body functions. When I learn something, I often read books walking on a stepper in my room. It enhance my brain function and makes me more concentrated.

What about allergy sufferers? I think we breathe through our mouths more because we don't breathe through the nose as well. Should we still practice through the nose?

A fitness trainer taught me to "nose breathe" and I never looked back. I have more stamina, less "dry throat" and I can even chat a little. :-)

Hello Brian! Thank you for the video. Belisa's Vranich viewpoint contradicts that of Oxygen Advantage (Patrick) in your previous video. Patrick (Buteyko Method) does not advocate "deep breathing". In fact, he finds it dangerous. Whereas Belisa seems to be a proponent of deep breathing. They both agree that it is important to breath through your nose and use a diaphragm. What is your stand on this - shall we have a deep breath or not? You researched the topic a bit, so hope can give a perspective.
