Stratera was kind enough to gift me a code for Pocket Bravery. This review goes over my thoughts on this Indie Fighter. It has a lot of promise, offers a lot of single player options, modes, and ways to improve. Unfortunately the online netcode and matchmaking have issues. Find out more detail in this video

They are working hard, EVERY DAY to fix all the issues to make it better and better. This game is like a son to them. A lifetime job.

The transparency on their discord give me hope they'll resolve the issues with the game. The game has a lot of love surrounding it so I can be patient and wait for the next update(s)

@@ShinLadFGC that is what is amazing about the developers and the game, they are really fully transparent and fast to solve the issues that the community presents to them, you can see that they are aiming to make a great game, not just farm money in the form of DLCs or other type of stuff. I hope that the NA FGC community engages in playing the game because it will bring more visibility to the game and see this really loved FGC project would be a great achievement for future FGC players who aspire to be a game developer, but i digress

Solid review! I get where you're coming from with the negatives. The good news is, Statera has been constantly and consistently working to update and fix this stuff. And they're being so transparent about the process, it's kind of astounding.

I frequent their discord and I do appreciate how transparent they are with their progress, a lot of bigger company's in the past have not given the same courtesy. This gives me hope that the next updates will make the game complete

The story mode along made it worth it for me. Fully fleshed out utilizing all characters. No fluff,all characters contribute to the story,this is something lost on modern day AAA fighting games

Agreed, even in MK, when a lot of characters are just jobbers to put over other individuals... Unpopular opinion, but I honestly liked Soul Calibur 6 story because everyone was highlighted similar to Pocket Bravery.

@@shyecity916 i never played soul caliber as 3d fighters are not my thing. Can also agree with what you said about mk where the weirdest interactions would happen just for the sake of plot. Still have nightmares about mk sindel destroying everyone lol

Can not wait until the console release. This will be great on the Nintendo Switch and PS5 (at least for me)

Nice review! Despite the issues, I think this game still has an awesome cost/benefit relation. There is a lot of stuff for casual players like the bonus shooter game, the rainbow mode and a good story with all endings in arcade mode being canonical.

you said indie tho man, they're a small group. writing netcode is very difficult for big studios. While a bit disappointing, lets give em some time to sort things out.

I agree, and if they were a bigger company I would have lambasted them harder but their transparency over their discord leads me to believe they will resolve it within a reasonable amount of time but until then I have to give my honest opinion

Enjoying the reviews coming out by people who understand all the fighting games genre concepts and terms and then explaining how the combat works! Really useful. That said, I think you underestimate just how amazing the training modes come across to "newbies" such as myself in getting to grips with the controls and putting them together to be able to have a chance of competing online! It's so good to have these options to guide specific areas to learn and improve on. Agree with your assessment: The character designs are top quality and assume the types of fighter eg grappler, zoner et al is sufficiently represented for different preferences of play-style. I breathed a bit of a sigh of relief that the biggest issue you have is Technical ie netcode and that's also the number one area for these guys to get right to ensure players can play fun matches online and grow interest in the game. Given they're an indie studio I just hope they have enough technical expertise to leverage to find a solution that smooths over the bugs and connection issues and ensures performances is "all 9's"!

As someone who hasn't been a newbie for in decades you're right, it's hard for me to put myself in their shoes but i'm trying. I probably should have spent some more time on the characters but i'm a bit of a newbie to "reviews" so that's something to keep in mind next time. They've had some more updates on their discord saying they're making matchmaking a priority so it's not all 9's yet but it'll get there

Game looks great! But there is like no content. Hopefully new tools that are becoming available will allow indies to speedup the development process.

This game has WAY more content than every AAA fighting game ever basically 😂 The game has over 4h of good story mode (6+ if you count the arcade, that is cannon) It has a RAINBOW MODE where everyone is super powerful and has a special boss lol Combo factory is one of the most innovative stuff in fighting games. A bless to combo makers. Every color and stage is unlocked by playing. There is even a semi-bullet hell mode to farm points And of course there is the others classic modes

Do you think this game has more content than Mortal Kombat? Smash Bros? Arena Fighters in general? Seriously bro, how many other people bother with this argument. So do you think popular games are just popular and expensive to make for no reason? Story mode doesn't have that many features as Subspace. Arcade Mode is underwhelming relative to more elaborate ones like the Towers in MK. Combo factory is not as ambitious as Konquest Mode in MK, Smash Run in Smash, and many other side modes. Look, I never stated the game was bad or had low content for an indie game. I just hope in the future devs can use the tools available to make more ambitious indie games without burning all of their cash.

More people need to try this game out! Ofc, the net (and in general Unity jank issues) have to be ironed out - but this is a fantastic fighting game! Thanks for covering it

Isso já é doideira mental tipo patriotarios iguais os que votaram no Bolsonaro.....querem bater de frente com jogos japoneses antigos e novos é piada !!! Os caras do bravery pocket cópia jogabilidade e gráficos de anime japoneses fora os golpes de vários personagens e se sentem os melhores do mundo e querem rivalizar com os japoneses.... isso é piada !!! Fora que vários canais quando vão comentar jogos de luta japoneses dizem que o jogo não é tudo isso que é muito quebrado isso e àquilo,mas quando vão comentar o bravery pocket esses patriotarios fingem amar e apoiar o jogo brasileiro copiado de jogos japoneses!! Se o jogo brasileiro está ou não no game awards pra mim não importa, porém esse bravery pocket não chega perto de jogos japoneses iguais street fighter zero e zero 2, dragon ball fighterz, Marvel super heroes vs street fighter, guilty gear strive,dnf duel, street fighter 6, Tekken,6,7,8, Double dragon, pocket fighter,the King of fighters antigos e novos,os caras copiam jogabilidade e gráficos de jogos japoneses e depois querem falam de jogos antigos e novos japoneses, só pode ser brincadeira!!! Daí vem um monte de moleque funkeiro querer me xingar aqui... eles mal sabem que as empresas japonesas começaram a fazer jogos de luta em 1976 com a sega com o jogo heavy weight champ,e depois os outros jogos vieram depois!!
