A couple of weeks ago we took 25 pilots to Monument Valley Utah and ran our maiden voyage of the "Canyons of the Southwest" flying adventure. What an amazing time we had! There are very few parts of the world that can match southern Utah for its beauty and for the freedom we are afforded as pilots. Join us as we fly in and around the canyonlands and explore some of Utah's backcountry strips!
I've got videos and podcasts coming pretty much week over week in 2019. Stay tuned to the Facebook page for all the updates and for more information on The Finer Points visit our website -

That is now a must-do flight. I live about 30 miles from the Canyon and am now going to work a route that won't violate airspace restrictions over the Canyon.

Cool! My RV-8 is based at KDRO. Have flown around MV multiple times and the area to the north up to Moab over Canyonlands NP. Incredible countryside around there and only a quick 45 min flight from KDRO. But have not yet been into any of the remote canyon strips...best done with a group. I'd be very interested in joining one of your trips. Subscribed!

Once I get mountain flying experience after a weekend course, I'm definitely putting this place high on my list. Only 300NM direct from KFTG, so ~330NM once you route it safely. Yes please.

Jason - Planning my yearly hike down in the Grand Canyon this December around Christmas. Was really inspired by your video. I have a Turbo Commander 690B and am planning on doing this run on the back from the Grand Canyon. Is there a VFR sectional for flying in the Canyon land Arches and Moab area like there is one for a VFR flight over the Grand Canyon. Any help or suggestion would be appreciated. Great channel by the way love your videos.

So I noticed that you had an about point on you pre takeoff briefing. Do you have a standard distance or what is your process of deciding this point? Also do you have a worksheet or something you could share on what your pre takeoff consists of?

Man :( that's just a few hours away (KFMN) by car... 76 nautical miles by air AND I saw Shiprock, which is actually easy to see from very far away from just about anywhere in the 4 Corners. I've been going to that area for decades but always on the ground.

@MichaelLloyd

@@jeffhiner I love flying out of Farmington. I finished my BFR there and I felt like I learned to fly all over again. Landing on the top of mesa is "educational" :o) I've done some flying around (not in) the canyons to the east and, of course, looped around Shiprock, then over the NAPI. I haven't made it down to Chaco yet but I will...

@@thecessnaflyer6754 I finished my BFR at FMN around that time. I've been flying 7688X a little, not as much as I want to. I went over the NAPI to Chaco Canyon, then over the coal mine and out by Shiprock on Saturday. It was a nice day to fly.

Why is the Cessna propeller behind the Cirrus turning clockwise? (When looking from the front)
@deanfowlkes

C D - it's the way the camera shoots the prop at that particular grams per second rate. If you speed up or slow down the prop, it will look as if the prop reversed direction.

@alecfriedman4330
@alecfriedman4330 4 жыл бұрын
If I had to guess, it would be to reinforce the student flying VFR rather than just following the GPS/moving map display. Too easy to fixate on the GPS instead of looking outside. Only a guess, though, and definitely a concern with not having the engine data displayed.
@dustyr.647

At 8:22 you mentioned taking a local briefing with a grain of salt, then you basically say you flew through a restricted area. This, at the hearing of locals saying it’s been cold for many years. Could you elaborate on who you called after taking their grain of salt and then double checking with phone calls?
@TheFinerPoints
@TheFinerPoints 4 жыл бұрын
Michael Carr I see how it could appear that way. Apart from what made the edit, We had a briefing the evening before from an archaeologist and pilot who flys for the BLM and the Department of forestry. Also looking up the restricted area it is hot only by NOTAM, we checked and there were no NOTAMS. Multiple local sources confirmed it hasn’t been hot in many years.
