Those tornado drills were completely pointless. If a tornado ever rolled through a school, we’d be dead.

it is, but it’s also the safest thing you can really do in that situation. you get in that position so that any falling debris doesn’t hit you directly in the head. to your point though if it’s an f4-5 and you don’t got a basement, you’re kinda fucked regardless.

by the time I was in late elementary school/ middle school our schools gave up on the huddle in a corner thing. I forget the acronym for it but basically it was grab a weapon as quietly as possible, put some furniture in front of the door(after covering the windows on the door), and then hide.

I think I know what you’re talking about. My former high school used the “line-of-sight” (basically, blind spot) concept, and there’s certain areas in the room that supposedly blocks the intruder from seeing you. My class was too large tbh, but we all huddled side-by-side or sat in front of each other as best as we could in the supposed “out-of-range” area.

We had a lock down drill when I was in highschool cause an inmate broke out of that transport vehicle and my teacher was probably the greatest cause he said “if that fool runs down here in a room full of adult sized teenagers we just gonna jump him”

My former high school started playing the tornado siren over the intercom during my 10th grade year. It was the most ratchet sounding thing I’ve ever heard. 💀 *puts y’all on pause so I can go fix my dinner plate* Edit: I decided to clarify that it was my former high school. 😅

2:35 idk abt y’all but my high school had Gordon Hayward in the nba . His friend used to live right down the street from us too so every offseason he would come down and visit like once or so . Gordon actually turned out to be a pretty good player in the nba

My *former* elementary school actually had a code word for the lockdown drill. It was something like, “Mr. Harlan is in the building.” (My elementary was named after a guy named Sam C Harlan.) Edit: I had to clarify that it was my former elementary school. I’m 20, not elementary aged 💀

Pros to have been in a small but well off school. We had built in tornado shelters and when gun violence started to rise several school districts started to allow faculty who were comfortable, and kept them secure to have guns in their classrooms. They even posted signs outside on the premises saying "------ Highschool is armed." before then when I was a Senior back in 2013 my whole class didn't give a f and when the topic came up we came to the chill agreement that if there was an active shooter then they would have to shoot 30+ of us before we get to them. Lol small town Oklahoma

The thing about the code word is that there could be students in the hallway or something so they won’t know they need to get somewhere safe quickly

In my schools, during a shooter drill, we had a code IOC which stands for Intruder on Campus and was still the dumb turn off lights and hide in a corner but they were getting there.

I remember doing those tornado drills in elementary school. And fire drills, and yes, we had to be in a single file line.

in my school we have to go under the desk for earthquake drills. it’s dumb cause shouldn’t you go outside during an earthquake? i think that’s safer. also most people including me can’t fit under the desk because i have really long legs and the desk are short

When I was in grade school, we had tornado drills, and fire drills. I think the point of tucking your head during a tornado was pretty much to kiss your butt goodbye.
