Started off buying those little figurines as well as cards and even a few beanies. It then went to folders and pencils, video games, anime vhs tapes, comics/manga, t shirts, I got sucked into it. BUt I fell out of it once Pokemon Crystal came out. The show became mostly filler, the pokemon designs got dumber, the gang in the show split up, they seemed to stop making those miniatures (at the time) and everyone moved on to playing the yugioh card game. Haven't played a new game since.

I only have 1 piece of Pokémon merch that I bought, a Dragonite plushie. (I got 2 other plushies as gifts.) I bought a bunch of the games though.

The MD series has a much more better story line and is open to gameplay changes while the mainline games has always taken a conservative route. I really didn't enjoy XY,SM and USUM

I think pokemon is something that as a concept is very limiting. Mario has no rules; so therefore can be adaptable into anything. But pokemon is only about the pokemon and in general is bland. The world is bland. The pokemon are bland. Mario works because it is adaptable.

Could be using a Racoon/Tanuki swit to plane and hit without jumping, riding a docile dinosaur with a (bit OP) cape, abusing the 3D for making a good variety of jumps, a water jet pack, a mid-air spin who make you jump higher, a propeller or flying squirrel suit for crazy air movility at the cost of combat moves, climbing walls with a cat suit, using your own hat as a platform for a 2° jump, or controlling the enemies for other kind of gameplay. A solid concept, but with a good variety on the core mechanics between titles while also mantaining its basic controls. Pokemon on the other hand, always had the same core gameplay with almost no variation. There's no significant changes to the gameplay since the 4° gen 13 years ago with the physical/special split; even the fairies and Megas aren't that unique when comes to changes to the core gameplay, and less the Dinamax.

Pokemon needs something like that too before they start declining.

The games have always been pretty lackluster in, well, gameplay. Though I guess it's about all the small things adding up.

Not just graphics. Its everything. The games are held up by the original gameplay loop, the concept, and nostalgia. The things that don't hold it up are neglected; the story, the characters, the plot consistency between games(retcons), and among other things the individual gameplay design(not to be confused with gameplay loop) which is vitally important as it includes map layout complexity and event/quest structure within individual games.

unfortunately, they could probably just survive on the anime. A lot of people I know don't even know about the mainline games, they think the games are an extra based on the anime.

I think there's a big nostalgia factor in it too. No one would buy a plushy of boldore from Gen 5 because its not a popular mon. However, gen 1 pokemon remain forever engrained in people's minds because of how iconic they are. This iconicism keeps the merchandise selling, as people want to buy the most relevant pokemon in their minds.

You missed the point. The sales for the games have continuously dropped year after year, despite gamefreak improving them each time. The games are not bringing in new revenue themselves and they know that with game prices stagnate and dev costs increasing they're better off putting in less effort and being conservative. If they tripled the dev team and made the game full of detail they would not reverse the lowering sales. Making a dent in their revenue won't improve the games, it will simply kill off pokemon faster, and make them resort to even cheaper attempts to maintain the brand as long as there is merchandising money to be made.

@@creativityfails1 A little correction, the sales have not been declining, at least not since the third gen, In average (it varies, between 1 or 2 million), the main game makes about 16 million, then the upgraded version /re-release makes about half of that, hell, the 6th gen, sold (X-Y, ORAS) sold about the same the first Gen, since the re-release (ORAS) sold almost as well as the main series title. Also, the real point is not the sales or Gamefreak improving or not the games (which is arguable), but the fact that the main point of the franchise is the merchandise, or that the Gamefreak doesn't really has to put that much effort to make it profitable.

Anyway, what keeps the Pokémon franchise moving are the mainline games made by Gamefreak. Without sword and shield, there would be no new anime, no new TCG, no new spin offs - you get the point

At best, you get surface-level appeasement that everyone who's mad gobbles up with impunity. At worst, we see the death of a product, likely long before anyone who protests this way actually wants. And that's assuming you make any noticeable effect at all. In reality, your efforts will go unnoticed. Sword/Shield will still sell phenomenally in both the games *and* related merchandise. What's the loss of a few thousand (which is realistically the most you'll be able to affect) compared to an income of millions? The sooner you accept that you are just a drop in the ocean, the better. And if you truly, genuinely want to affect change in something like this, you have to really work at it by becoming a big name in the industry, you will never achieve it by being just a random KZfaq comment.

With XY, they at least had the reason/excuse that they were trying to familiarize themselves with full 3D... I found it to be fun, because the region was pretty and the music was memorable. The game stood out a little. Then ORAS and SM happened...

My personal "headcanon" is that the reason the games have gone to shit is because iwata stopped having direct involvement in the development of the games. Satoru Iwata was one of, if not THE main person who made the pokemon games good.

Maybe because in my opinion the pokemon they created weren't that great/memorable, don't get me wrong a lot of pokemon looked and were great but a lot of them people shit on and dont even remember. Also the map was personally lackluster and very linear, they didn't introduce anything super new, like no mega evolution gimmick, no WOW stuff, stupid difficult lock things etc

timur the king pokestar studios, pokemon fusion, and pokemon world tournament are all better than pokemon that just get bigger. Mega evolution and Z whatever were the dumbest ideas ever invented because none of the carried on and were completely ignored. Pokemon white 2 and black 2 both get tons of support now, and I’m sure you remember reshiram, zechrom, and kyurem. Don’t even say you don’t remember Snivy, cause that’s a pokemon I’ve always remembered, and a standard pokemon from that series (for me at least) became patrat, lillipup, and other sorts. Victini was a very memorable pokemon. Your points are just you shitting out your opinions and not looking at the point: they worked hard on the game, got no support, started making shit games.

Megas imo were great if they were continued, (saying megas are bad because they weren't continued is like saying fusion is bad because more weren't done etc). I agree with z moves and gigantimaxing being shit. I never said the 3 legends or starters were bad/unmemorable, they are actually p great, except that I hate snivies evo but I respect them anyway. Patrat lillipup etc are super forgetful/hated for most people. Your just waffling now because I'm pointing out a majority of people's reasons why they didn't want or were not interested in the games. They did work hard and the story was good. Also BW 'failing' wasn't why they started creating shitty unfinished games, definitely more of a higher up thing.

I don't like megas cause all of these things being added are to get people to buy the game. They don't even make sense anymore (big pokemon? ok). Pokestar was fun idk what you're on about. I don't know anyone who hates the pokemon in that game other than you (you're def a first). They def considered making shittier games that were easier to make and gave them more profit vs spending lots of time making a good game that people hated for no reason because of the bw/2 situation. Finally, you're saying bw/2 pokemon were forgetful and probably can't name a single normal pokemon from X and Y other than the starters (that even take time to remember omg!).

@@chaser339 well apparently me and probably the majority of people didn't think the same especially the ones who didn't buy the game, poketsars did nothing to help persuade people, while megas did persuade people. Megas were made for u to buy the game, yes, duh, that's the point of new game mechanics usally and what BW was kinda lacking. Megas are controversial however as they weren't given mostly to pokemon that needed it, instead it created broken pokemon. If you cant think of people wh hate the pokemon in BW then you must be a lucky person to be hidden away from such a huge toxic part of the community. I for one can remember nearly every pokemon from both x AND y and BW. Once again I like most pokemon from BW, but many others ihave seen and spoken too dont.
