Garsh Mick, seems like Disney is on top of the world. Well, it would appear that way, yes. But their history is nothing if not inconsistent, a constant struggle between success and failure.
And also Ducktails.

Summary: Disney is an all-powerful overlord of entertainment, but a change of power might lead to a decline.... even Rome fell.

Everything will die. But also remember, the Roman Empire lasted for 1000+ years. So, there's no telling how long Disney (or any other corporate giant for that matter) will last.

What would help to bury Disney at this point, or at very least deflate their monopoly, is 'let fiction go into the public domain sometime within a human lifetime'. When you have copyright protections giving a single corporation control over depiction of 'fucking human myth itself', there's probably some sort of problem to address.

Fun fact about the Peter Pan movie, certain Native American tribes actually have a folktale that is "What Made The Red Man Red" in reverse: an explanation for why the white man is white. It involves Coyotoe tricking god into undercooking the clay he made man out of, and god was so embarrassed by this mistake he put it over in Europe where he wouldn't have to look at it.

Video games need A LOT more bandwith as they need to stream a video at 720p 30 FPS minimum, preferably at least 1080p 60 FPS and you also need a good upload speed to avoid input lag. Disney+ would only need to run at 24 FPS as that's what movies run at and you also wouldn't need a super good upload speed with that service.

@@mattwolf7698 not all games need bandwith. nor do they need to stream video. it's called playing offline. it's something game companies have forgotten is a thing. as i can just turn off the internet connection to my computer and continue playing any non online game i want without a problem. for that matter if i don't even want to deal with the internet at all i can just play through the fairly large library of ps2 games i happen to have. Honestly, Disney+ only delays the inevitable for likely a few more years. See, nostalgia is a tricky thing, and the main reason why people are getting Disney+ is because of it. For Millennials and early Gen-Zers, we all remember the great Disney movies and shows we grew up watching. Mulan, Star Wars the Clone Wars, etc. With Disney+, we finally get to rewatch these shows and movies. However, nostalgia doesn't last forever, and eventually it will die. While shows like the Mandolorian do help Disney+, it is unlikely that Disney will be able to continuously recreate the success of that show. In the end, once the nostalgia trips are over, Disney will likely experience a harsh downturn.

As an individual who was born as Gen Z, I grew up with Disney films all the time, but not all of them (e.g. Black Cauldron, The Aristocats, and more underrated Disney movies). I think the problem with Disney is that they frequently recycled the famous Disney animated movies that turned into a live-action rehash junkie. No animated movies in Disney canon, besides Pixar, were created. Nothing new and less interesting about live-action remakes. Animation is like an imaginative paradise that are bizarre and more entertaining while live-action are more like your typical, abysmal office job 24/7. In order to save Disney, they should make new animated movies in 2D to capture the essence of nostalgia that have been gone long ago with good stories to tell, and fun-loving and relatable, well-written characters. People also sick of "protagonist's parents died" trope because it's cliche. I understand that the trope is based on Disney's parents death (if only they're alive, then the trope wouldn't have existed), but why they shouldn't make a Disney animated movie focused more on a parent who happened to be a protagonist? Something like Marlin from Finding Nemo who is a parent protagonist.

@@raddactcontent Ehhh, they're still making money hand over fist, even if they annoy small minorities of their fan base. Just for an example; Star Wars didn't set the world on fire like they'd planned but the new trilogy was profitable and the IP will keep chugging along, the same goes for the live-action remakes of their classic films and the MCU still has _plenty_ of fuel left in the tank. When I say that "Disney will collapse one day" I'm more speaking to the fact that nothing lasts forever, we'll not live to see the day it falls, I'd say it's pretty likely that even our grandkids won't live to see it, though at the very least we can know that it won't survive the heat death of the universe.

theaters are dieing off mainly because the economy just isn't strong anymore. and it's only going to become weaker even taking the incompetent orangeness out of the question. covid like it or not is most likely here to stay. there used to be a safety net to prevent another great depression. but years of mismanaged policies by often delusional officials have basically caused a lot of the support structure for said net to rot away. and then covid came a long and caused several load bearing sections to snap.

I feel like some people use Disney to cope with the harsh reality since the company, its movies and the characters have been with them since their childhood. It has become like a friend to them and Disney has their loyalty because they are constantly offering something new for them to focus on and making stuff these people can surround themselves with. There is so much content made by Disney that they can quite easily create a "Disney bubble" for themselves. If Disney has affected you so much as a person or you currently enjoy many many things Disney offers and has offered you throughout your childhood, you might feel like someone criticizing Disney is also criticizing you. I have a friend who I believe might be like this to cope with her anxiety and she got visibly upset when I mentioned that some workers in Disneyworld love their work but they do not get paid nearly enough to afford rent and some are basically homeless. I feel bad for bringing it up but I also hope she realises Disney is a company, not a friend.

sorry for revivin the thread after months, just felt like dumpin my thoughts somewhere to be quite honest, i only see streamin as good for people who watch a fuckton of movies [or music, or games] like critics since thats theoretically cheaper and more ergonomic than purchasin piles of boxes for hundreds/thousands of [insert currency here] otherwise, streamin kinda sucks as a service, you pay for access to some vague amount of content which you may as well barely scratch the surface on, and which may not even contain whatever may actually interest you, forcin into searchin for a different service to throw your money at if you dong consume enormous amounts of media every month, then subscriptions really arent worth it, theyre kinda shit if you really think about it since at the end of the day theyre nothin but a money sink, good for the company and sucky for the consumer, just go buy physical releases or digital downloads and support smaller and medium businesses or private people [when buyin used] or give your direct support to the artist/label, theyre all yours and you can always sell the physical versions when you have second thoughts or need money, or just pirate shit if you know what youre doin and where to get it

Streaming is good but streaming is "closed". It is like a closed system. So a lot of young folks will stop being exposed to Disney (thank the Gods! If you ask me!!) And will start to move away. When I was a kid, we had disney on movies, on books, on TV, Disney figurines on our school books, on our clothes etc so you almost feel mandated to like Disney. No you don't. I remember a time where if you went to your local children's library, pediatrician or kindergarten chances are it would be decorated with Mickey, minie, Donald and daisy... Now you don't. They would get sued. Yes they lost revenue when people used their IP but they won exposition. Now they don't have that anymore. Kids watch the Disney channel, but kids don't think of Disney as "magic" as we did back in the day.... The mandalorian is big hit? Sure... And in my country I don't have Disney+ so no one watched it... Did we get exposed to movie clips, merchandise, watching on TV of being forced to watch it just because the parents say "I love this when I was your age"? No.... Remember, GoT got huge because of word of mouth and because people could watch it. If GoT was from day one in HBO streaming a lot of people would had never tried to watch it.

People watched Disney on TV because it was just... There. When I was a kid, I had most Disney movies on VHS and watched them over again and again. However I did not need a subscription to do that. Most people will just stick to subscriptions that have more variety like Netflix. Any of the movies that come out people will just buy on download or DVD / Blueray. Kid's no longer give a shit about toys as much. They would be smart to get into the video game industry.

I agree. Not to go full boomer, but I find it to be far more magical to have a single Disney movie on VHS/DVD and knowing that there is a lot more out there, than growing up with digital access to everything through D+. I think Disney eventually will lose it’s «magical» cult status because of this.

Yep. Once the Fox buyout was allowed to go through it was gg's. Now we have to hope either for a forced split up, or just hope they don't fail, because if they do, the entire entertainment industry will go down with them. It will just be trash movies made to pander to China after that.

@@thatsoneinterestingpfpyago2521 Actually they've already been pandering to China. Or trying to. Especially with the Mulan remake. That's the entire reason it's not a musical like the original. Musicals don't do well in China. But I was thinking more of outsourcing boring films, though, like Abominable. It was animated in and for China and is the most uninteresting movie ever. It feels like it was written by an automated computer.

@@Sargonarhes don't forget the earlier ones with Tommy Kirk, that's why I didn't specify KurtRussell...😁(pretty sure TK's character was different name, though.) All those Disney films seemed to be set in the same medvale universe as they often had characters in different movies. Alonso Hawk was the baddie in Flubber and one of the Herbie movies... whoa! I just had a thought, maybe Herbie was one of those lab experiments/accidents from Medvale! Maybe involving lightning and trying scan some kids brainwaves, but since that would've undoubtedly killed someone, Disney didn't make up an origin story for Herbie.

Fortune 500 companies last only about 35 years. They tend to collapse after the founders retire. Sometimes they keep going like Disney did but eventually the Nepotism and patronage towards incompetence catches up with the company and they bleed money until collapse. George Lucas should be like "...I'll buy Star Wars back for 500million". lol
@AllenLinnenJr
@AllenLinnenJr 4 жыл бұрын
That is because there are two kinds of companies in the world. There are companies that make money to exist any companies that exist to make money. The first one are ascendant and usually have a Visionary leader like Walt Disney. The second kind are decadent and essentially cash cows that are milked until they're dead.
