This is a song that exists in universe. A character in the game canonically wrote this piece and played it as he and his army of bullying victims stormed their school ready to completely and utterly stomp their bullies. As with all sorts of plans made by teenagers, things did not turn out like a bunch of heroes taking on a group of unifed villians. The bullies, when they saw an army, did not stand and fight. They fled the school permanently, completely squelching the attempt at triumphant closure. The teachers who were either blind or complicit in the bullying, all resigned after the bullies parents pulled them from the school. All records of the incident were erased by the Vice Principal trying to save face. And instead of being the conquering heroes rolling up in tanks with an army, ready to do head to head pokemon battles over who ruled the school, Team Star became the villains in the record. They were viewed as the bullies, not the victims, by both incoming students and the new teaching staff, who had no idea what happened and no way of reaching out to the Team. The fallout from the takeover was that the unidentified head of the group turned themselves over, took all blame for inciting a revolution, and left the country for nearly 2 years. And Team Star, out of pure loyalty, refused to return to the school until their leader was publically vindicated. From their point of view, Team Star was the victims wh9 finally lashed out collectively, and were painted as the villians.

Saying that the Pokemon fanbase is "huge" is sort of an understatement, seeing as it is the most profitable media franchise of all time. 😅 Scarlet and Violet are the latest mainline Pokemon games on the Switch from late last year, and started off the 9th generation of Pokemon. They might not be the most pretty or well running Pokemon games, but they are the most fun I've had with the games since Black 2/White 2 from 2012.

I've been wanting you to react to this one for a while now. The coolest part is that this theme exists within the game canonically. A character named Giacomo wrote it as the theme song for himself and his fellow Team Star bosses. A group of outcasts who came together and started their own "team rocket" consisting of all the delinquents at their school.

Answering the question about version differences; Yes, some Pokemon can still only be caught in certain versions, but more than that starting as early as Generation 2 (Gold/Silver/Crystal), sometimes certain plot elements or locations are slightly tweaked based on which game you have. Without adding too many spoilers in the comment section, in the case of these two games, Scarlet has a focus on the 'past' and Violet has a focus on the 'future' which affects an end-game area and the Pokemon that are affected there.

this tune was used for one of the story battles during the Pokemon Twitch Cup 3, where player Illojuan suffered a team wipe at the hands of an unusually OP Chatot. the melody that starts at 3:00 almost perfectly portrays that moment, as it happened: he started off winning, confident, then the Chatot comes out and overpowers him, he stumbles, realizes he's doomed, pulls himself together although a bit disorganized, charges the enemy and goes down fighting. I don't think the organizers ever imagined what could come out of choosing this particular tune. everyone else in the cup pretty much glided through that battle unnoticed.... for Juan, it was the fight of a lifetime. ....and it wasn't even half way through the game!

The music in Scarlet and Violet was truly god tier music. It took the idea of big event music from Sword and Shield and pushed it even further. But it really personalized it and you really can feel the characters in the songs that have differences. The music was leaked along with the game before its release day and the music alone is why i bought the game, it blew me away. I grew up with Gen 5 and my first games were Black and Black 2. I've played one of every version since in each generation including Legends Arceus. . . . Except for Scarlet and Violet, the first time I've played both and this battle theme is one of the biggest reasons why. It took the spot of my All-time favorite battle theme in Pokémon beating out my previous favorite the Sinnoh Battle Frontier Brain Theme from Platinum. For the record, when they name the games after colors again, you KNOW they mean serious business and it's another reboot of the franchise. If you told me back when I was 11 and started Pokémon 12 years ago that this is the theme that plays when you battle 5 Highschool Dropout delinquents who were bullied and thus formed a so called evil team just so they could belong somewhere and give other students who were also outcasts and victims of bullying a place to belong and be themselves gor comeradery they all cosplay as their Type Specialties and one of them is a boy who's a Fairy Type Specialist and dresses like a dapper AF modern day Fairy Tale Mage and likes pretty, cute, and beautiful things and has a serious savage side and smart mouth and also is the teams go to for getting their hands dirty and CREATED the boss fight exclusive Pokémon vehicles He was picked on for being a "girly boy" and his more fortunate upbringing even though he never cared about his family's wealth and only ever wanted to prove to himself and others that he can accomplish something to be proud if on his own without people thinking he's just an entitled kid who doesn't know anything and need the crutch of his economic status when he just wants to be normal He weilds a POKÉBALL CANE, FINALLY, THE ONE SINGLE TIME A PRETTY OR MORE FEMININE MALE TRAINER THROW HIS POKÉBALL WITH A CANE, WHAT I'VE LITERALLY HAD AS MY OWN SIGNITURE OC POKÉMON TRAINER DO FOREVER AND you fight their Pokémon along with an Engine Pokémon fused into a sentient Battle Bus Hot Rod Hover Car with their own signature Torque Moves with devastatingly busted effects I would say that you just read the deepest most hidden hopes and desires for a Pokémon game that would never happen and for you to stop getting my hopes up. For story context for the song’s vibe, Team Star are a gang of school hooligans of outcasts and eccentric cliches like computer kids, edgy kids with home designed cloaks, sport jocks, and rich prep kids that have come together against the school mandates and for freedom of expression, so the songs are naturally very “defiant” and “you can’t tell me what to do” kinda angst rock vibes. All of their banding together and what eventually becomes straight up coercion of random students to join their team and making blockades leads to them just becoming as bad as their bullies, with the founder leaving their Team Boss friends and wanting to dismantle the group entirely by enlisting the protagonist to take them down a notch. It’s definitely the least evil or malicious Team of the series, even compared to Sun & Moon’s Team Skull who were just hoodlums who only really caused property damage unlike the literal terrorists of other games, so the vibes of Star’s battle themes are very much more lighter and hyper. *(Also the founder might have accidentally maybe embezzled the equivalent of thousands of dollars worth of hacked digital school currency when paying you for your victories she didn’t think it was that bad whoops)*

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but when it comes to version differences in soundtracks, I'm pretty sure the only differences have been: - In Ruby and Sapphire, where the version dictates which of two organizations (Team Magma and Team Aqua) is playing the "main baddie", and each team has their own encounter theme (played directly before fighting one of the members, but also as a BGM in certain areas while it's occupied by members of the team), while in Emerald, a third version, the two organizations kinda take turns appearing in different locations and causing trouble, so you get to hear both themes. The actual battle themes are same for both teams. - In Black and White and the sequels, there's a couple locations that are actually thematically complete opposites from one another between the versions, and the BGM matches that.

Yeah, this theme just hit me like a freight train the first time I heard it in-game. Pokemon's always experimented with different genres, but they seldom ever go full-on insane with the electric guitar like they do here. And just when you think the theme's done, they just pick up more electric guitars and just keep on GOING AND GOING. Like, this is one of the longest and most complex battle themes in the series I've heard, to the point that there is a different second half in the second loop (not sure if you noticed, since you were focusing on the rhythm guitar, but there is a wicked distorted guitar solo there). All of the high-quality uploads of this theme don't have this variation (they only repeat the first loop), so I had to link a video that was gamerip quality but had the full theme. But I'm glad that didn't affect your enjoyment too much. This has quickly shot up to be one of my most favorite battle themes in the series, and it got me looking up who Teruo Taniguchi is (he seemed to only have a few obscure games and some sound work in Pokemon Black 2/White 2 under his belt, so if he's only getting attention now, then hey, I'm looking forward to what else he's got). Taniguchi's responsible for pretty much all of the Team Star music, and every single one of them are incredible. You're dead-on with your guesses about Team Star, by the way. They're a bunch of teen delinquents who skip school and cause trouble, but they're not villains in the least and their story is actually pretty touching. Not to mention, their bosses go around in Pokemon-powered cars, and you actually send out your Pokemon to fight _against the car._ It's just as crazy and badass as it sounds. Hell, this theme? In-universe, it was composed by one of the Team Star bosses, so it is actually narrative canon that you're beating down the bosses while this theme is blasting out of the car's speakers. Yeah... despite not really being villains, Team Star is actually one of the coolest "villain" teams the series has. It helps that their fights are pretty challenging compared to other fights. I'm really looking forward to you hearing some of the other Team Star themes (and certain... endgame themes as well). Pokemon as a franchise has become pretty... polarizing in recent years. The developers are frequently accused of playing too safe and not making great technological and graphical strides compared to series like The Legend of Zelda. The games are also frequently thought of as too easy or too casual and kiddy. Not that I don't agree with some of these criticisms, but I still really enjoy the games because I enjoy the world and stories that Pokemon has built up over the years. The world and Pokemon species also mirror the real world in surprising ways, and I always learn a lot of things when I look up what the Pokemon or the in-game regions and cities are based on. Plus, you know... the soundtracks are always bangers.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are the latest games, they came out last year in November. They're the first fully open world games in the series and have you follow multiple storylines that once all completed collide into a crazy finale. Storywise it's about enrolling into a gigantic school and being given an assignment to basically go out into the world and find a "treasure", which is purposefully vague. This theme plays for these boss fights against the leaders of this group of rebellious students called Team Star. One of the 3 storylines revolves around that group and figuring out why they're rebelling exactly. It's not the best open world ever made by a longshot but it's fun to see them take a crack at it and I think it's a design that fits the series well, and a lot of ppl myself included really fell in love with it for the story. It's nothing that'll completely blow your socks off (except for the end which is pretty crazy) but it's got a cast of really good characters.

So, about the music in Pokémon, yes, they almost never fail. The reason because I said "almost" is that they are not afraid to use many different genres in each generation which makes it inevitable (at least for me) that some themes would stand out more than others, like this one, I personally think it's too much for me. And as I'm sure someone has already told you, they also give prominence to different instruments, to give an example, in the third generation the trumpets are the main dish, in the fourth the piano makes the game feel more elegant, the fifth has a more electronic style to it so to speak, etc

Yep, Pokemon has been using the two-versions system since the Red and Blue days. The soundtracks for each version pairs are always the same. The only exception I believe being the Pokemon Black and White games and their sequels-- I think each game has 2 tracks that are exclusive to that version. Pokemon and Sonic really do always seem to deliver in the music department. This song was highly enjoyable to hear for the first time in game. Team Star is the villainous team of Scarlet/Violet, who are more-or-less delinquents who've been forced out of/left the pokemon trainer school that the player is in. Their leaders are all skilled trainers with different specialties and niches outside of battle that contribute to the crew as a whole; The Dark Type Leader is also a DJ and cannonically made this music. The Fire Type Leader is a consigliere for the team at large. The Poison Type Leader is a seamster and made everyone in the team's outfits. The Fairy Type Leader is an expert engineer and figured out how to modify/add on to pokemon to create unique pokemon for each leader that acts as their "war chariot" of sorts. The Fighting Type Leader is a personally skilled wrestler and also trained the team as a whole. The True Leader (who has their own *really* good battle track) is a skilled hacker capable of breaking into professional system security and bankrolling at least *some* of what goes on with funds they stole from the Pokemon League.

fun fact! this theme canonically exist in-universe. team star is some sort of cult formed by a band of rogue students, each one of the band members was in charge of each aspect of team star(aesthetic, costumes) so one of them is the composer for the team's music. edit: abount the quality of the games, that is in fact one of the most divisive questions you can make to any pokemon fan. gen 8 games, sword and shield, are considered to be one of the worst games if not the lowest point in the franchise, but there's still fans of those games due to the good parts (like the music or the character designs) and this last one, scarlet and violet, is one of the most divisive entries. because at a technical level, the games are embarrasing to look at, there was just no polish at all and some animations are atrocious. BUT, at a design and creative level, I seen a lot of people fall absolutely in love with it (me included), and put it out there as one of the best pokemon games so yeah basically wether which pokemon games are good or not that's a topic that will never cease on the fandom ever.

I'd say yes - the OST of the main series is consistently amazing. Spin-offs - it depends. I consider Pokemon Mystery Dungeon spin-offs to also have stellar OSTs. Explorers of Sky and Blue Rescue Team are my favourites. I am especially in love with Gou Ichinose's work. He has a tendency to use a lot of funky slap bass and his soundtracks are pretty chaotic in a good way. If something sounds like a funky all-over-the-place but great bass - that's most likely his doing. I love this dude's music, seriously.

It's been a long time since I've really liked a main series Pokemon ost. This has been one of the best since generation 5 imo. I've heard this song before and it's a banger, the song is hyper and fun with the edge the team needs since the Team Star consists of bullied kids. The riffs are super fun and have some good intensity (which every battle theme in Pokemon needs imo). The synth section at 3:00 sounds like an encouragement, the odd shouts make me think of a bunch of team members watching this happen. The guitar melodies are awesome, just rocking out like crazy. This is a super fun song and I very much like it. There are some sub-par Pokemon games although the music is pretty consistently good, recently Pokemon games have been suffering from being rushed before they are ready and the community is pretty vocal about it.

Can't remember the term but this song is supposed to actually playing in universe during the battle with the Team Star bosses and is even for the lore composed by one of the bosses of Team Star. Edit: As for the naming scheme, there's been a few instances where they haven't used colors. X/Y, Sun/Moon, and then the previous gen Sword/Shield. But as has already been mentioned, the difference really comes down to version exclusive Pokemon and then since Gold/Silver, each game has their own exclusive legendary, which sometimes changes the plot a bit. To use Scarlet and Violet here, the plot difference has to do with past and future, and they for whatever reason changed the name of the school in the region. But other than those slight differences, the games are for the most part the same story.

This music exists in the game itself, for the characters. One of the Star bosses, Giacomo, wrote it and they all blast it during their matches. It's implied that he also wrote the theme for their big boss despite not having met the boss in person yet. I love how 1990s Capcom this piece sounds. It's like you expect to hear it in a Mega Man fan game. Everyone wants you to do the final boss music but it uses leitmotifs from other places in the game so you'd probably have to listen to at least...three or four other pieces to prep for it. Also the title alone will spoil a big twist. I greatly enjoyed SV and while it's glitchy, I don't see that as the dealbreaker a lot of others do. I found it enjoyable, especially the characters and story, and the ending made me cry (yes I can prove it I recorded my playthrough). It hit me so hard that I couldn't touch the postgame for months. And interesting fact, the game got "best scenario" (essentially story) at Famitsu's awards, and one of the characters, Arven, got best character. And if you play the game it's going to take a bit to understand why because when you first meet Arven he's a *jerk*, but oh god. Oh god. His story is intense. Another person who composed music for this game is Toby Fox, of Undertale fame! I think he even did that vaunted final boss music. Anyway Team Star is set up as the villain team but as you unfold their story, you realize they're anything but. They started off as bullied kids under a school administration that did nothing, so they hatched a plan to scare the bullies, but it backfired and they got framed as bullies instead, and harassed out of school, with their leader even having to leave the country. The administration ended up resigning but the damage was done, and nobody among them bothered to try and clear Star's name (one of the administrators even destroyed evidence). So instead of an evil team, you get a bunch of depressed teenagers hanging out in campgrounds instead of going to class. It's a good thing the new headmaster is so much more responsible than the prior one. (This isn't to say that the game doesn't have a region-threatening villain like they usually have...but oh god that's part of the gutpunch ending)

You’re correct in assuming the games have the same soundtrack and the different versions are mostly for version-exclusive Pokémon, but since Gold and Silver they do try and make the versions somewhat different plot-wise with the legendary Pokémon (though it’s mostly just “this Pokémon represents x and we need to use that power”) In regards to the music being consistently good, I’d say it’s accurate most of the time (the only soundtrack that was mediocre belonged to the worst mainline game in the series, but even still it had some great bangers in it) As for Team Star, they consist of bullying victims who overtime grew into delinquents that intimidate and threaten fellow students into joining their gang

Something to note that I hadn't really seen anyone else mention is that Toby Fox had a hand in a lot of Scarlet and Violet's soundtrack, either as the primary or some sort of co-producer. He's very well known for his games Undertale and Deltarune that he also did the soundtrack for, and after making a single song for the Battle Tower in Pokemon Sword and Shield it seems that they liked it enough to make him a primary contributor to the Scarlet and Violet soundtrack. I'm not sure how much Toby you've heard already, but you can notice his influence and signature sound in a lot of different songs and you can very clearly tell in the Area Zero and Tera Raid related themes that Toby has dipped his hand into it. The game honestly had such a large variety of styles in its tracks but it's all so good.

I have a long comment about SV themselves under the "read more" so this isn't just a reaction :P 0:33/12:30 Pokemon is the number-one media franchise in the entire world, larger than Mario, Star Wars, or any other, so its staying power has been incredible. 4:34 It's funny that you said "oh there's more, I thought it was over" cuz it was over, that was the loop point xD 7:50-9:20 Yes they've always been doing this with Pokemon games, but it's primarily about trading with your friends. Scarlet and Violet did take it a step further by changing more things like which academy you're attending, which professor shows up along your journey, etc. but they are still essentially the same game, and yeah the music remains the same. 13:30 It's funny you say Togepi because Togepi was Gen II, not Gen I xD 11:30-12:00 Yeah Pokemon music tends to be really good, and every game has plenty of fans, I don't think there was ever a time where people all agreed that the games were objectively terrible... until... Scarlet and Violet are the newest and current Pokemon games. SV are currently the only entries in Generation IX. In my opinion, SV are simultaneously the best Pokemon games ever made and the worst Pokemon games ever made, and I'll explain. "Best" is because of the incredible story and characters, fully open-world gameplay, stellar music composition (the Team Star battle is one of my favorite pieces of gaming music from last year), and adorable Pokemon designs some of which are my new favorites. I genuinely love Scarlet and Violet, I think this is the huge leap forward that Pokemon needed, and I LOVE THE CHARACTERS SO MUCH their writing is top-notch and I want so much more. I pre-ordered the DLC the day it was available for pre-order because I know I'm getting it no matter what, I love this game (I personally have Scarlet). "Worst" is because of the multitude of technical problems with the games; no Pokemon game has ever released with as many bugs and glitches as SV, and most of them have not been fixed yet. The prevailing theory is that the game's developers, Game Freak, were rushed and crunched by The Pokemon Company International so SV would release on time for things like the trading card game, the new anime seasons, new plushes and other physical products, and more. As a consequence, these games are incredibly unstable with lots of crashes, Pokemon spawning inside walls, the camera going underneath the terrain, and serious stutter, especially in multiplayer. I'm losing faith as the months go on for more patches to the game's performance... hopefully the DLC will be more stable.

@@JessesAuditorium To be fair, yes, Togepi was one of the first generation 2 pokemon that showed up in the anime, around a year before Gold and Silver were released. It wasn't the only shoehorn, but it was definitely one of the earliest. It debuted so early that it was listed as Pokemon #152 on the Mewtwo Strikes Back (the first movie) DVD, despite its actual game pokedex number of #175. There was a time when little me growing up thought Togepi was gen 1 as well, and was very confused when I could never find it in Pokemon Red, lol. I got Silver before too long though, so I eventually figured that out. The first Gen 2 pokemon shown in the anime was actually in the very first episode though; the golden bird Pokemon that Ash sees as he sets out on his journey is Ho-Oh, once of the main legendaries of Gold/Silver/Crystal. The first episode aired a full two years before Gold and Silver was even announced in Japan, so it's a pretty common but cool piece of Pokemon trivia

To answer your two-color-question, errr. yes and no? Yes, you're spot on with there being version-exclusive Pokemon, with that being the only notable difference for most of them, and the story, OST, etc. is the same between in most cases. No, it hasn't always been colors - so far they've used letters (X and Y), as well as concepts (Sun/Moon, as well as Sword/Shield which might ring a bell). There's two notable exceptions, and I'll also put a fact at the end about this specific song. Also, yes, this is the newest game, released in November 2022. There's always been a two-game split on release, Red/Green for Japan & Red/Blue for the rest of the world, Gold/Silver, Ruby/Sapphire, so on and so fourth up to Scarlet/Violet. The first four generations getting a sort of updated release version - Yellow, Crystal, Emerald and Platinum. As for the small differences in versions I can recall beyond version exclusive Pokémon, Ruby and Sapphire had an evil team that was dependent on your game version, and Black and White (and their sequel) added two entire sections of the game that developed differently from the other. This song was, in the story of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, made by a former-student president and current "wannabe DJ". He's one of the "Bosses" of Team Star, a bunch of bullied students who are trying to stick it to their university. He also made the Team Star Grunt theme, as well as Cassiopeia's theme. If you get around to listening to those, try to keep this song in mind! Lastly, to answer your question about the games and their music, I think that Pokemon has always been on the mark, with the exception of the Sun and Moon, which I can't make a proper judgement on since I never completed it. It just never grabbed my interest as much as the rest. However, I think the music has been absolutely fantastic in ~95% of cases. The other 5% aren't bad - they're quite good, but are marred by things like the battle being short or easy.

The track is what it says, the Team Star Boss Battle theme. They are a Team, like Team Rocket, they are the bad guys on the game. Evil Teams is one of the things that also always carried through all Pokemon Games, every game has one, some straight up to the core evil and some super goofy evil or good but twist bad or whatever. Team Rocket as the first nothing needs to be explained here, Team Aqua and Magma next, then we got Team Galactic, Team Plasma as fifth, Team Flare, Team Skull, Team Yell and then we are now at Team Star. Many of them fit into the more evil archetype but the last three where all a bit more goofy and light hearted. Team Skull is such a random bunch all the time. Like the are played as a joke in the game but are pretty much all like Jessie and James, always thumbling everything they try, like in one scene they for real try to steal a bus stop so they can mess up peoples days if the bus just keeps driving🤣 and one grunt even straight up says he doesn‘t want to fight you because he knows he will just lose… actually that‘s the smartest grunt ever🤣.
