I remember when perfect dark launched. Everyone at the time was talking about how it was going to be the sequel to goldeneye. Unfortunately, it wasn’t anything new compared to goldeneye but it had characters that people didn’t really have any attachment to. I think it probably got over manufactured because there was so much hype for it.

On the tip of emulation versus playing the original hardware, I’ve been moving towards emulation or alternative methods for years. I’ve done this for a few reasons (none of them have to do with preserving my physical collection). First, it’s just easier to play retro games on modern systems with emulation. Second, you can add games that you may have missed for nothing (I’m not gonna pay some dude in Texas thousands of dollars to play Hugane on the SNES). Lastly, it opens up way more places you can play the games. For example, I have the entire SNES catalog on my Wii U to play on my TV/Gamepad plus on a modded 3DS that I can take on the go. Plugging in my ancient SNES with game packs that likely have dead batteries is just never gonna compete with the alternative. I’ll add that I don’t emulate newer generation games. For that, I play it on Optical Disc replacements (i.e. GC loader). That way I’m still playing on the original hardware without having to throw in the disc. As emulation for those later generation consoles has improved, I’ve been wanting to transition to emulation for those systems as well though.

Incredible. 😮 You can see that he is genuinely collecting for the hobby and nostalgia. Most ungraded stuff, and what is graded probably already was when he bought it. You can see he clearly focuses on the games inside the cases too. And as Grego said - he just briefly mentions so much gold! But yes, this is a repeating trend to note... Many collectors out there have duplicate or multiple copies and even cases of games. What is out there isn't only what's in from of your face
@GetTheGreg
@GetTheGreg 2 жыл бұрын
Case packs that are in collections like this are always interesting. Like, technically there are 12 mint pokemon GBC games there. But also, they may never be separated from those cases and/or available for purchase. How much weight should be placed on them, you know? It could mean more are out there (always a risk), but yea, it's kind of a weird spot. I really doubt he has any intention of splitting those up or selling them any time soon, if ever.

It'll come down to if it has literally been opened before or not. If it has been opened, it will be graded on their "qualified" scale for a "new, but opened" item. If the box has literally never been opened, it will be graded like normal.

I forgot to mention that: we all want this but it is our own fault. I remember when xbox360/ps3 and wii was out, you could pick up gamecube games for 5-15 dollars here in Sweden, that included a sealed fire emblem, skies of arcadia port, luigi mansion etc they were that cheap. Nobody did. then one day they are all gone and prices goes crazy and spike up. Same with n64/ps1 you could find your sealed final fantasy 7 for 20-30 dollars even around 2005-2007 as well, I remember seeing sealed ps1 games like castlevania and suikoden even when xbox360 was out - because I remember shopping for it at a local store and I thought about picking up these sealed ps1/n64 games that hadnt sold and the store keepers in these local stores didnt see it as "retro" but games he never sold and yet I never picked it up. And now some people are probably looking at wii games as trash or ps3 - but dont come back saying you "missed out" again. with all this said, I do think because people see value in games now more games will be kept sealed and preserved so there will probably be more ... lets say "sealed persona 5" for the ps3 than it would have otherwise. But cult games like Folklore for the ps3? That is gonna be a rare one...

When emulation came out many years ago with the Wii I dabbled but then gave up on it in favor of the real thing. Since I work with media in my art practice and have a solid research background, I have been diving into information on upgrading original hardware to get the best experience possible from old games. If you want to peek into what is possible, this video does a phonemail job: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jNqEgJqfup-3fXU.html Being knowledgeable on the technical specifics is very fun for me, yet due to my living situation all of my stuff has been in storage for the past three years. I bought some of the scart cables needed for RGB but have been waiting for the OSSC Pro to be released before I do any console modifications. Since I have some entry-level soldering skills, I find the prospect of being able to personally upgrade my childhood consoles to be invigorating and empowering. Looking forward to the day where I have my own place to setup a nice gaming station where I can invite people over for multiplayer game nights and play great games on original hardware.

One of the first games that I am looking forward to playing on an upgraded NES is a homebrew game called Micro Mages. It looks like a really fun game similar to Shovel Knight, yet I find the very complex design and engineering of this game to fit on original hardware to be quite impressive: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/kL2BY5hqlralqIE.html I bought three copies of the game and was pleasantly surprised to find that they honored my request and shipped them sealed from the factory (others reported there was no seal). Once it is no longer in print, I plan to get at least one of them graded!

I'm no Nintendo expert at all so will take his word that it all currently adds up to $2M+. My biggest mistake as a collector (valuation wise) was the fact I just wasn't into N64 back then (why I don't know) I was collecting for literally every other system (including big box PC) but no N64. So of course Murphy's Law comes into play and N64 blows up in value far more than anything else hahaha. Oh well, life is about a lot more than just accumulating money but darnit I wish I had a couple banker boxes full of mint N64 games :-) I think emulation is a great idea to play the classics even when you own the original hardware and software. Put less wear on the classic systems and still enjoy 95%+ of the game experience through emulation.

so Greg, this guy doesn’t say exactly when he bought some of the stuff but take that Pokémon trading card game. If he was able to buy two boxes of that from some person on Amazon what does that mean that some games are just not that rare sealed? Like you brought up perfect dark a bunch and he has a bunch of them, you would think that some point we’re going to find out with some amount in certain tea that some games are in the “not that rare“ category.
@GetTheGreg
@GetTheGreg 2 жыл бұрын
Oh no, for sure, I'd never argue against that some games just aren't rare sealed. The pop reports will be very helpful in helping outside people be able to differentiate your Perfect Darks and Gauntlet 64s from the Smash Bros. and Snowboard Kids. These days, it's much harder to gauge some of this stuff as the case packs themselves aren't just sitting on eBay/Amazon anymore (at least, not many are. I think you can still buy Gauntlet 64, Hydro Thunder, and maybe a couple of others).

@@GetTheGreg Right, right. I think that’s what I’ve always been trying to articulate when it comes to this market. We just don’t know with any amount of certainty how rare some of these games are with a few exceptions. Like it’s common knowledge about some games but there’s a chance that some games just haven’t shown themselves to be rare enough to warrant high prices. I think that’s one thing that would terrify me to buy into this market after the insanity that happened over the last 2 years. Because this guy, while being an obvious fan of Nintendo, just happens to be on KZfaq. Just think about the people that AREN’t public figures. And some of those collections may never get reflected in population reports. I guess that’s what I’ve always meant when I say that popular titles are very sketchy to buy at high figures. Perfect Dark, the reason why that’s so common, was printed because Nintendo believed it was gonna be a huge seller, which it was. But it also was a late release. But the weirdest thing about that game is that it got a Players Choice release as well. So it’s interesting that it has the non-players choice so readily available in sealed form. And the just makes me wonder what other mainline titles had that happen with.
