I pull the engine down to see what parts I will need to get this old girl running again.

If you do need a seat redone, there is a guy in Little Falls MN who will sew up and install a factory looking cover very reasonable.

Hi Todd, great video as usual! Be very cautious with the water pump, they're extremely hard to get in my neck of the woods used and I have not found any new aftermarket suppliers either. You were supposed to change the oil in the water pump every 1000 miles, but I prefer to do it every 3-400 myself because it's to the pin whenever I hit a straight stretch of trail or lake! Lol. Also check out ALL the reed petals, if they are not sitting against the housing or are damaged in any small way replace them all. The v-force reeds are around 350-400 Canadian dollars the last time I checked, but are a HUGE performance boost! Compression on my 96 Ultra SP IS still at 150 psi which is new compression for this engine. If you can still find them a set of thunderdome heads, PSI triple pipes and the v-force reeds will get you very close to the 165 hp range. At least my friends 96 ultra did back in the day. He killed my stock Ultra every time we raced.

Also, if you can find a complete engine or set of cylinders off of a storm 800 out of an Aggressor chassis they will drop onto the ultra bottom end with no modifications and no one will be the wiser. Only a larger bore is the difference but even bigger performance gains!

Shave the heads for higher compression like the spx or a little more and check your timing because the sp had a lot of issues with sled not being timed right I believe mainly for triple pipes but that would be killer to see you do, it would teach alot of people something 🤘🤘 by the way me and my dad own a 1996 Polaris ultra SKS with dyno port pipes pushing some big power for a 680 😎🤘

I'd go all the way. If you don't and it bites you, you'll be kicking yourself. That seat a beauty, never tried baby oil, I have used transmission oil before and it seems to soften the hard vinyl. Looking forward to future vids. Yeah they're calling for 80 degrees on Monday in northwest Ohio.

I saw in one of your replies, you have PSI mod blasters. I ran 10k miles on a 96 with them. Set up 5 other 96 Ultra SPs with them the same way. I still have my notes on setup and clutching. If you’re interested clutching. To jetting. To timing. Plus the carb parts and hand scratched notes from the PSI installation notes. Plus notes on SLP “rev”pipes. SLP made two sets. A torquer which spun 8100 or rev, that spun 87-8800. The rev pipes came with a can silencer or glass packs. Torque, only came with a can silencer. Plus the big belly of the pipe was an inch longer. 9” for torque, and 8” for the rev pipe. If you’d like help. I’m sure there’s a way to get you the notes. An ultra with PSI modblasters spinning 9700, yes. That’s right. They work at 8700, or 9700. Is amazing. Closest to it is a 650 screaming thru a set of DGs at 9100

can message me on fb? I have dg triples on my 650 called Bastard spins at 9200

For future reference, its easiest to drain coolant via the inlet hose to the water pump, you could've avoided the coolant in the crankcase to be honest. Also, if possible it would be good to get a good look at the cylinder heads. That almost looked aftermarket by my eye. The biggest giveaway is the stock are cast, of course. Aftermarket are billet. The waterpump is definitely worth getting rebuilt.

@@briandzimitrowiczjr7107 boy now your really testing my memory. I really can't answer that. This was back in 97/98 when I did this. If there was an issue with anything I'm sure I switched stuff out.
