The exquisitely beautiful Polestar 2 leaves Robert literally lost for words but how does it compare to the Tesla Model 3? On every point of reference, the Polestar 2 is seriously impressive and it's really only the lack of charging infrastructure, that Tesla offer, holding this back from being the equal of the Tesla Model 3. The exciting thing about this car is, that as it's 100% manufactured in China, they should be able to scale up to mass manufacture them. For easy reference, use the Timestamps listed below...

I think the challenge for Polestar owners will be charging for long journeys. There are still not enough 150kW Polar chargers in the UK and IONITY is extremely expensive as PlugSurfing won't benefit from the discounted rates that say Ford, Mercedes or Porsche will.

It does look like a good car and I'm glad that it is coming to make EV market more available to consumers. Styling is pretty good, though looks a bit large for how much cargo it has compared to even model 3. Range is good and I'm not sure what made you compare the performance model 3 range to this, Tesla has superior range. It looks like it is close in efficiency to a Model 3, but with 78kWh pack it's clearly less efficient. Price in US seems to be more expensive than a LR AWD with FSD Model 3. 0-60 of a Model 3 is now 4.4 on the website, but in reality it can do 4.2 and 3.9 with boost upgrade. Range is 322, though I'd count more real world closer to 300. And in the end, it doesn't matter if a car manufacturer makes similar or better vehicle in the future, the charging infrastructure, at least in US, cannot be beat when going with a Tesla.

Could use more physical vibration damping for rolling shots and maybe some panning in the drone shots (but being able to do that is entirely dependent on how fine the control their gimbal provides is). Quite scary that the first real equal to a Tesla M3 is Chinese. VW are nowhere near when you see this, and although it may take a while, people will work that out in the end. But battery day is coming and will presumably be something very significant, and when the Berlin factory opens, many predict price cuts for European M3's and Y's. So it's till advantage Tesla in the war, even if this particular skirmish s very even. If only the Polestar could use superchargers.

Dingelberry Finn, I’m actually one of those engineers myself, so I’m very sure I’m right in this case. I spent a couple of years of my life on the Front End exterior of the Polestar 2, working in the Gothenburg headquarters with hundreds of other engineers. Not just the software, but also all of the hardware is developed in Sweden. Both the platform and interior/exterior, including the design/styling of both. Also all the planning and all attributes, like crash safety, energy efficiency, daily life usage, etc. Designed in CAD and tested in thousands of CAE simulations. The assembly plant is indeed in China and most components are sourced from Chinese suppliers, but, as I said, it’s 100% engineered in Sweden by me and my many colleagues.

Dingelberry Finn, there are indeed many excellent new EV’s developed in China nowadays, NIO and Xpeng for example, but Polestar is not one of those. It’s a Swedish sister brand of Volvo, both owned by Chinese mother company Geely, but nevertheless developed in Sweden.

But to answer your question...No I don't care about the 300KG weight gain, the shorter range etc. What I do care about is having a local dealer to turn to if/when it goes wrong. There is no Tesla dealer in my area (nearest one is a 3 hour ferry ride away) nor are there any Tesla charging stations, otherwise I would have bought a Model 3 last year. I probably won't buy a Polestar either, but it's nice to see more choice on the market.

Yes i have seen with my own eyes that the Polestar is far better in quality than the Tesla. No trim issues, no dingy noises, no cheap material, no rattling sounds, the doors doesn't sound like closing a truck door, the user interface is made for drivers that enjoy driving. As a bonus the car looks much cooler and is also more practical than a m3. If you dont enjoy driving and do not care how bad or Spartan the interior of your car is, by all means buy a Tesla. They have a better charging network but thats it, everything else is awful about Teslas... Especially their service network at least where i am from.

@@VoxelLoop While lacking in self driving capabilities (which is not legal in Europe yet anyway) the Polestar 2 is likely better than the Tesla in accident avoidance tech while in manual drive mode since that's the case for latest model Volvo's. -Rear and front Cross Traffic Alert with auto break. -Blind spot information with steer assist if you try to change into an occupied lane -Run of protection -Collition avoidence by braking individual wheels in combination with steering. -Rear collition warning and mitigation. etc And as stated by most reviewers this is more of a drivers car so most people who buy it will likely wan't to be in control anyway. So, yeah, in the U.S. market the pricing isn't quite that direct. I actually don't think the Model 3 is the correct comparison vehicle anyway. @@OldschoolWarfare But they already have the same drag coefficient as a racecar. Is there much more they can do without sacrificing range? Polestar 2 is really an xc40 with another shell. It could have been a far better EV if they made it from the ground up. It would have been much lighter too. All their cars will be built around a shared platform. I don't like that. Then the MEB platform from VW is much better

It truly is a beautiful car IMHO. I really like the styling. Love the brake calibers and yellow seat belts. There is a lot of things to like about this car. Unfortunately we will probably never see here in the USA with the current political climate.

Good, fair and reasonable review. I like the term "accomplice" and its great that there is now yet another good quality choice on the market. The only thing you could have pointed out is that the car you were driving had the additional sports package winch I think is another £5K. But great to be able to watch this in 4K as well 👍😉

Yes, efficiency is key, particularly in countries/areas where the charging infrastructure is weak (not enough chargers or low-powered chargers, especially when the batteries are quite large). Tesla I think have set the bar quite high in both respects.

How much miles does your model 3 give till a charge in real world?

@@NONcomD Polestar is less efficient and charges at less than half the maximum rate as a Model 3. Its a second best car in every regard.

@@NONcomD it depends. When I drive around town with mixed freeway and street driving I can drive it roughly 260 miles before I feel that I need to charge it as soon as I get home. And I still have enough charge that I can run an errand or two. Drivin strictly on the freeway gets hard to predict because rage can vary wildly depending on terrain, temperature, speed and how much weigh your carrying. That's why I follow what the Tesla app suggests. For example in one trip with two adults and a baby we can travel 230 miles before the app suggests to charge on a moderately hilly drive at speeds between 60 and 75 mph with 55 to 60 deg temp. On a another trip with 3 adults a baby and driving up a mountain pass at 75 mpg with 80deg temps it suggested that I charge at 65 miles! I could have skipped that stop and driven 20 to the next one but I would have had to backtrack a few miles to get back on course. On the way home I didn't have to charge at all and didn't charge for a few days after. Which makes sense because the way home was mostly down hill. This is why charging speeds and infrastructure matter so much for driving long distance. My M3 is the LR AWD rated at 316 miles. If I only drove around town I would totally trade in my Model 3 since range wouldn't be an issue. That's because I live in a house and charge at home. I f I lived in an apartment I'd stick with a model 3 to minimize my charging station visits.

Yesterday hubby and I went to Polestar Space in Stockholm. So cool to see the cars irl. Loving the Saab likeness in some angles. Had no troubles with opening or closing the trunk with my foot. You shouldn't swing your foot sideways but just straight in under the car and then out again. Enjoyed this video, even though I'm not that into car videos. Have a lovely summer!!

bodoti qwiu thus far I’ve seen only one reviewer who adjusted it, as he had the time and a workshop! Other reviewers just got the performance version of the car with no time or workshop to adjust it. They have quite rightfully pointed out that you’ll likely never adjust it any way (or maybe once) as it’s not practical to do. A number of said reviewers also doubt that the performance pack is worth it, but that’s up for buyers to decide 😉
