California Assembly Bill CA AB742 is being presented by California Assemblyman Corey Jackson. This bill aims at eliminating the use of police canines (k9s) in many situations including apprehending potentially dangerous suspects. He claims the bill will help right the wrongs of the past - a "carryover from a dark past." He uses inciteful language such as: "The use of police canines has inflicted brutal violence and lifelong trauma on Black Americans and communities of color," and more.
This type of language will create knee-jerk reactions among policymakers and place many people, especially those in under-served communities in great danger. We've seen the problems things like defunding the police does to communities and I hope this video will open people's eyes to the true benefit of police canines.
Michael Goosby is a decorated LAPD police officer, he served as chief K9 trainer for the LAPD and has been a police officer for over 30 years! I can't imagine a person better qualified to talk on this topic than him. This chat will give you great insight from a man of the highest character, a police k9 expert, and a man of color who cares about people.
Learn more a bout Assembly Bill 742 here:

I hope that Assemblyman Jackson will watch this video and rethink his position or at least sit down with someone like Michael to educate himself on this topic. I'm assuming he didn't before proposing / writing this bill.
Please contact Assemblyman Jackson here to voice your concern:

I’m so glad you brought him back. I was really fascinated with his first interview as he deals with real life situations and everything that goes behind the scenes in the K9 law enforcement world. He is the expert that these politicians should listen to. I hope he gets to testify in front of these politicians to bring back the sanity. This has to stop.

Being a foreigner and being in a part of the US where cops weren't... a presence to be comforted by... And for me, especially the idea of being armed. The one thing I always stood by was that you can call off a dog, but you can't call off a bullet. I'll forever stand by that - dogs in the force save lives.

@@wallsofgab The problem is that it is institutionalized abuse and torture, which means it is taught and required, and all the K9 units observe a "code of silence" to cover it up and lie about it.

I am sure there is a lot of horrible handlers out there who abused their dogs. There's a lot of owners who abused their dogs. However, professional working dogs are extremely expensive, American new car or home expensive. Top police and military trainer dogs with love and affection. There's always going to be a bad seed in the bunch. That doesn't mean you cast a blanket over something that when done properly is not only a true art form it's also fulfilling an enjoyable experience for both the handler and the dog.
@Sukijopa
@Sukijopa Жыл бұрын
@@jollyrogerq "You can fool all of the people some of the time, and some of the people all of the time...," etc. I'm in the "can't fool all of the people all (or any) of the time" on this subject. I worked in law enforcement (yeah, I broke the Code of Silence) and made it my mission to learn about the atrocities I witnessed, where they originated, and whether it's just "one bad apple," which it is not. As mentioned before, the torture is institutionalized, it is THE RULE, and it is lied about and covered up with vigor and precision. Part of the reason for that is because the dogs are purchased through donations (mostly corporate, by businesses and agencies which like having their names associated with the police), and if there was public backlash then the corporations would have to find something else to build a reputation with. Even though most media have helped in the coverups, I've amassed a large library of information and videos, which even include admissions that this is standard. So, good try, but no cigar.

Great video. I volunteer my services with my GSD as a trailer for lost children, special needs people, dementia patients, etc. because this jurisdiction I support will not allow bite dogs for the task. They don’t have a budget for that, but they finally have a lab that will start in iOctober. Tracking and trailing are different but synonymous. My boy needs a specific scent, where police K9’s are looking for human scent. I love this video. Thanks.

These two professionals are explaining the purpose of a tool that is bettering safety. Open your eyes.. look around.. dogs are trained to do their jobs as police are trained.. dogs are there to assist in the proficiency of that job. They save time, money and increase safety, and don't judge.. If people get bit as a result of dogs doing they're jobs, maybe the person that got bit, shouldn't have done the previous action.. Listen with open minds, not a deaf ear. This whole conversation is important to open your eyes to.

Another great, informative discussion & interview! I just posted a question yesterday, about this bill, on the CRPA channel. Thank you Robert & Michael for honest info from an experienced professional to explain the importance of law enforcement K-9 officers and units & the work they do. Public safety is not what this bill seems to be interested in. Removing tools never seems to make much sense, especially tools that offer a layer of less than lethal force and de-escalation. The CA legislature should reduce the bills they write, start thinking of those they represent & stop worrying about the next election cycle. Sorry, bit off track there! Lol! Looking forward to the next time you two sit down to talk, the first one was great. This one was even better! Thank you, again!

I won’t say where I am from or where this information pertains to but I have it from a close friend who was a K-9 Officer and he stated that when he was coming up thru the local PD if the K-9 Unit was called out the dog would absolutely get a bite. No. Matter. What. They worked a Black part of town and he would absolutely tell you that bigotry does exist in the PD (just as there are bigoted persons to be found in all races and in all walks of life). The problem is that in positions of authority we find that all persons in those positions have other issues - like poor self-esteem. These people can exercise bullying and the need to be “bowed down to.” Combine that sort of individual with a dog and we have trouble. Another K9 Unit friend of mine would be all gleeful that his dog grabbed someone the night before. I’m a dog person - BIG TIME dog person - but I’d take no delight in seeing the damage a dog can and will do to the bare skin if a human - even if that human was an absolute piece of 💩. Fortunately, most Americans are not bigots and are not inflicted with severe self-esteem issues but we need to police the police and make it a *PROFESSION*. I also see dogs that don’t release on command. Why don’t officers carry break sticks?? 🤔

@Happy Dog they are the best. A good friend is a breeder. He has had DDR and Czech and Czech undoubtedly are the best. Don't get me wrong I love the Malinois as well however there's nothing like a good working line German Shepherd. Best all-around utility dog. And in terms of protection, even when not trained, best deterrent dog. Good luck breeding. Remember to breed the best. Beautiful but also healthy and strong and stable. Temperament and health should go hand-in-hand. Good looks don't hurt but you need the whole. Nothing more beautiful than a strong German shepherd. And remember to stay away from over angulation in the hindquarter. Should have nice well-balanced long legs in the front and back. Improves agility and performance

???Great interview. Clearly a well informed guest. Certainly, canines are a huge help in locating a suspect and I am glad they have them. The topic was answered very quickly with “no raciest dogs,” and hopefully, no racist handlers. The details beyond that were interesting and informative. I was surprised of 20% which is a lot of bites. He acted like it was no big deal. Much of the public hears dog bite and thinks dog mauling. The medical industry is required to report all animal bites and dog bites are categorize to the severity Level 1 through 6 with 1 - aggression but not contact with skin, 2,3,4,5, up to Level 6- which is death of human or animal. If the bite draws blood, information is sent to health department, then the dog undergoes a 10 day rabies quarantine even if the dog is up to date on vaccines. That was not mentioned which I thought important since the bite/bites severity could be easily over or under exaggerated by handler or suspect. ? Questions: 1. Is it a normal practice that the suspect who may need antibiotics to prevent infection or for legality issues of the K-9 units to have the suspect be seen by a medical professional even if the bites were superficial injuries? 2. Since the medical community does have mandates toward all bites, how is it different with K-9 units ? 3. Do the police departments keep the same records and close accountability for their K-9 units for transparency issues?

Does anyone CARE at all about what the dogs are put through? Apparently members of the military and paramilitary K9 units are afraid that there will be people who care, and that there could be backlash if they find out what is done to the dogs behind the scenes, which is carefully hidden, covered up, and lied about. I worked in law enforcement, and found out the truth. It's disgusting and ugly. These narcissistic controllers have ready made victims, just in the dogs themselves. I am confident in saying that more K9s are killed by their handlers and "trainers" (and die as a result of accumulated injury from abuse and torture), than by any suspects or enemies. I've collected quite a library of evidence over the years, and all I can say is that anyone who treats dogs the way they are treated in the military and paramilitary would be arrested for felony cruelty to animals if they were civilians.

I have seen poorly trained K9 on videos lately. Nipping at children’s faces. One K9 bit a child’s face at a fair. While a police officer was standing there. If your dog is not completely in control, it’s worthless. You are a poor leader and you should get a cat! I rescued large breed dogs, my family also. They eat the most. First to die. I used the Koehler Method of Dog Training because the cops and military used it. I bought a terrier puppy from a shelter and it turned into an Irish Wolfhound. Koehler saved my life. I named him Clyde because when he became an older puppy, he looked like the orangutan from the Eastward movie. I had to be strong to wrangle his ass. He had to be smart and surrender to me. He had to trust me. He did. My first best Friend. Ya know that moment? I just drew a line, look at it, don’t cross it!

Head k9 cop T and another k9 cop come to pick 2. The whole time they are badmouthing a female k9 cop S (she got that position because daddy was chief) 2 where picked, I asked if T was going to do the training. No, S will be. If she doesn't get it right we will just re home the dog. (The 2 cops squatting by my 2 GSD) (yr old). I step in take the muzzles off and tell all 9 to load up. I look at T and tell him. You have badmouthed S this whole time. My dogs are not experiments. I will call you don't call me. Joanna the last if them died at 15. Still miss them all.

They lie about what they do to the dogs, or, as in the other reply to you, carefully sidestep the question with finesse. The dogs are hanged (to unconsciousness), kicked, helicoptered, and a variety of other severe abuses, and then when they are not in use or being tortured, they are kept in isolation in a kennel, or "solitary confinement." It's part of the additional calculated mistreatment, since dogs are social pack animals, and they have to instill a Stockholm syndrome into them, or they will attack their handlers. Many have, anyway, and are shot to death. But that gets swept under the rug. I have a lot more info for anyone who is interested, including a website.

Did you see the recent video showing a trucker pulled over for a minor flap issue but he didn’t 🛑 fast enough. He was out of the truck, hands up, on the ground & State Police on megaphone, told city police dog handler, ‘DO NOT release the dog,’ more than once. Well, release he did & even the dog didn’t know where to go & ran to the SP guy. Told by handler again to attack the guy & he started ripping the suspect up as he screamed in pain. Wouldn’t even immediately call the dog off when told. It was awful. White cop, black suspect & of course this looks bad but it’s the bad individual who wanted that power & control & couldn’t wait to be “the man.” Handler was the dominant aggressive, IMO, not the dog. Poor 🐕was like what?! He’s in surrender you idiot; what do you want me to do? 🐕was totally confused! Cop was fired. SP asked if he had given the ‘Do not release’ command loud enough & all agreed he made it clear as a 🔔 Suspect needed stitches.

I’m all for police to protect the community. My grandfather and my great grandfather were police officers. I have a problem with over inflated police. The police department should not be a money making business. I live in a small town. We live right by a military base who could have the national guard there in two seconds. They spent my tax dollars on an MRAP. We have never ever had a riot. We have never had a reason to need a mien resistant vehicle. The only reason they got it was to inflate their budget. I would rather my taxes go to schools when teachers have to buy their own pencils than for them to have a silly vehicle!

This is for barricaded suspects most often which are found frequently enough to buy one if you’re in a high population density area, which many bases are.

And FYI I don’t think they need them either but that’s what it’s for.

@@victorygarden556 I know, I’m just saying that’s my reason for wanting to “defund the police”. They should be going after barricaded suspects. They should not be handling social issues. We have other departments for that. The town I live in near the military base is not densely populated in any way shape or form. It’s very rural. Smells like cow 💩 when it rains. We don’t need an MRAP. The police in our town don’t need that much money or that many employees. They’re being asked to do things that are not criminal issues and that’s wrong.

I'm so tired of this PC BS. If u a criminal - you have somewhere left a victim in your wake.. you deserve to be taken out and nothing as nice as hearing a criminal cry like a baby when a dog is biting him.. it's about time people become scared of the consequences of going on the wrong side of the law. We are all entitled to live in a safer world. That's our right- and being on the side of the criminal is not the way to achieve that goal.. so, I'm totally for the dig taking that criminal out.. remember most of the time the dogs life is at risk as well (I absolutely hate it when I hear a K9 has died in line of duty).. and the dog is there to make law abiders lives safer. The only reward the dog gets in having to dangerous work is his tug/ ball etc at the end.. common people it's time we toke a stand against criminals.. otherwise before you know it you will be too scared to venture out of ur doors simply because it's unsafe out there (I'm in SA so I know what I'm talking about). In fact I don't envy the cops at all. Tough job- maybe time to try walk in their boots- might open ur eyes..

But that's not what's going on it's racist cops not calling off their dogs on black people after they have given up. Or just sicking their dogs on innocent people... If you won't to be realistic... Yet you can't punish the dog. You have to start taking these police off the forces period....

Twenty percent of people found are bit? That's a lot. A "bite" can be devastating.

did you listen all the way through to the severity of the overwhelming majority of them? was nanty. the world aint rainbows and roses & if these folk weren't committing crimes or hadn't been armed & threatening then the dog aint even deployed never mind biting a suspect. take you head out your butt, please. more pet dogs bite than k9 officers.

What percentage of that 20% is black or brown? If that percentage is 100 then there is definitely a problem.

@@Mogwizzle doesn't matter because the dogs don't care about race! instead of try to do a silly thing like ban dogs which if you listen prevent more harm than they ever cause you look at the issues in society that put them on that situation in the first place, homelessness, education, poverty, addiction, trauma & abuse etc. Can't go around trying to use racism as an excuse to ban k9 dogs when people are putting other people's lives at risk. Dogs aren't generally deployed unless there is a serious threat, usually with weapons involved & the bites cause lesser & less injuries overall than a bullet would or 5 guys on your neck! And given the guy in video is black himself I doubt he'd agree is that was the case 🤣

20 percent when the dog is used to apprehend... I'd say a higher % are shot when bullets are deployed.

Would be interesting to hear the take on not so good training in the country. Doesn't really address the issue in California but a poor quality training and elimination for dogs who lack the stuff so to speak seems lacking. More than just use..
