Cool challenge Quinn. I like the fact that it forces those that are over reliant on the clutch, to get out of their comfort zone. I think more than anywhere, this is the case amongst precision riders. You know I'll be participating. My new cone bike (GSX-R750) is still being built but I will definitely make a point to upload my best effort this winter, after I get acquainted with the new bike.

I am planning on bringing this balance ball 2.0 training to the NOVA skills competition for my clinic and maybe we can do a challenge at that event. I think it would be 👍 great

This will be great until the no one-handed speed challenge policy comes out following the totaled department motorcycle and heaven forbid on duty training injury report.....

Yeah it is more dangerous if you don't walk into the exercise, but the bike performs pretty smoothly when you put your body in the right place. And when I think of the inherent risks associated with police training- K-9 bite work, SWAT live-fire kill houses, EVOC J-turn and PIT maneuver training, Arrest-And-Control tactics...This really doesn't raise the bar IMHO. Bottom line, the motor is THE most dangerous job so we either train harder or get off the bike.

great learning videos, TY, need to ask, is possible you do a video but this time with a BMW GSA... 1250?
@PoliceMotorTraining
@PoliceMotorTraining 9 ай бұрын
Generally you will see me on the BMW 1250RT-P, as I am the BMW brand ambassador for the police segment of BMW Motorrad and they provide me with RT-P's. As well, I like focus my videos on police-specific slow-speed instruction and the GS is more "adventure." BMW does not officially offer a turn-key GS 1250 for police agencies, but they just might at some point here in the future so maybe I WILL get a chance to get on one and put it through some cones!

Are we using both brakes or just front/trail braking? I watched the previous video and I don't remember you mentioning that. Thanks.

Great question- In these exercises (and in my personal riding process) I tend to use the front as my primary tool, even in tight maneuvers. That said, I DO have a little bit of rear brake going, however this is not the focus of my riding in these situations or in this challenge video (where we already have quite a few things to think about) so I don't address it here. If you DO use rear brake, I'd say go for it, but you can rip this course up without it. As for trail braking? Yes, I do use this technique, as well you can see I apply throttle while I'm still slowly coming off the brakes, so I overlap these controls as well. Again though, this is not the focus of the drill so I don't address it here. Hope that clears it up a little bit, but if you want to go down the rabbit hole a bit more we can schedule a call and discuss in greater detail.👍

That was a great reply. Thank you for taking the time. I trail brake a lot so I'm used to that technique. I just didn't know if you had a certain way to do this practice exercise. Slightly off tangent but I'm an MSF RiderCoach and I try to teach my students to do tight maneuvers without brakes so that they will learn throttle and clutch control first then they can add rear brake etc later to tighten turns even further in BRC and even the ARC. That's just me though. I firmly believe in mastering the friction zone first. Again, thanks for your response and your really thorough videos. I learn a lot from you.

@@billcarson1966 you are dead on about no brakes- forces good clutch and throttle for sure. I always like to ride patterns without brakes as a “confirmation “ that I’m sensitive with the controls. Make sure to reach out if ever I can help 👍

do you think this would be quicker roadrace style with carrying more roll speed? or would you just waste distance?
@PoliceMotorTraining
@PoliceMotorTraining 8 ай бұрын
If it was a faster and more consistent-radius pattern maybe, but the fact it’s 1st gear and no hard parts are dragging yet I’d say no. Road race would be pretty busy because you’d need to swap styles at the tight end portions. But try it and advise👍

@@PoliceMotorTraining i dont have a big enough bike for it to make any sense. Supermoto style or roadrace style would work fine on any of the 3-400lb bikes i have.
