I've wanted to do an overnighter using a pack frame for quite awhile now. So I decided to make a Roycraft pack frame and add my Polish bread bag and a bedroll to it.
In this video I share with you the contents that I've decided to pack for an upcoming adventure back into the forest.
Many thanks, as always for clicking on my video and I hope that you enjoy it.
If so, please feel free to comment, like, share or consider subcribing if your new to the channel.
Cheers, J.

Another cracking well delivered episode china. This pack frame makes a lot more sense to me than just the 7KG satchel over the shoulder and all the discomfort issues it would bring on a long tab as mentioned in an earlier comment. I like the bed roll section and have used this modular system on a Aussie Vietnam era Alice pack frame, not the triangle bushman setup you have here. I would defo give this a go mind you. For personal experience and a good challenge solely. I think the next evolution for you Jason will be the ADF or USMC steel pack frame and build your own layout with the gear you already have. As for adding or replacing your gear, look its a tool box mate, you put the tools in for the job at hand. For UK bush you are spot on, maybe a creature comfort like a paperback, maybe Dogs of War by old Freddie Forsyth lol, get the juices flowing lol, I would probably add a pack rifle 22 or folding airgun (not sure whats legal there) or set lines and telescopic rod. Just things to feed me and keep me entertained. Bit of plinking in the bush. Great fun. Keep them coming china. Cheers Mo.

Hiya Moose, thanks for another great comment buddy. A lot of what I try is mainly for personal experience and it's always good if I can share some of that here too. Hopefully it'll inspire one or two folk to get out and try something new as well. Legalities over here regarding hunting and shooting are an absolute minefield. The reality is more like a bit of fishing and plinking with a catty. I was looking at a military aussie pack a couple of months ago and it really looked like a solid bit of kit. Maybe one to consider for the future. I hope that the back is on the mend mate but in the meantime enjoy a bit of well earned r and r with your good lady and a cheeky couple of glasses of the red stuff. Many thanks again Moose and I hope to see you out again soon. Take care buddy. Cheers, J 👍.

@@SandybackOutdoors Hi Jason, Yep, I get the reason for these vids, you inspired me to give it a go lad. In regards to the ADF frame, yep they are solid kit and defo grab one if you get your hands on it. The back is doing great, off the heavy drugs after two weeks out of surgery, one tab every 12 hours now. Walked around the local supermarket today and did fine. The Mrs is here to help on carers leave so thats a joy, sadly no plonk of any kind for six months. Takes that long for the spine to fuse into the net. So Christmas day will be my first drinky poo lol. What could go wrong hey lol.

Reminds me of the times I saw soldiers with socks or whatever they could stuff under their Bergan straps to reduce chafing. 🤦‍♂️ Have you thought about using your Hammock Straps as the carrying system for the Roycraft Pack? I have a different system where I use one of those Russian type canvas Veshmeshok with mine and therefore can utilise its webbing shoulder straps. I have to go back to that project as I used my Gimlet and dowels as well as binding on the 3 joints, but as the wood (Willow) dried, some cracks appeared in the frame so, I either need to use wood filler or start again and what I like about the system is that you don't have to use straight sticks at the base, I have collected a whole bunch of curved sticks of different diameters that will sit more comfortably on my lower back - they're all drying out naturally, no hasty work for the next build. I'm always interested in weigh outs and I understood that at 66 years of age, I couldn't carry my winter pack very far without strapping my knees etc. That looks like a very reasonable load out, but no Hip Flask......... 😜 Am I right in hearing you say you carry your burner with the fuel in it? I have one, never used it, but I was led to believe from KZfaqrs that said they leak and hence they carry them dry with the fuel in a separate bottle? When you said, 'Dirty Bottle' you mean it's for your unfiltered water before the Sawyer Mini or it is a Pee Bottle, I'm guessing the former? The use of AVON Skin So Soft as a Midge/Mossie Repellent was a Cabbage Head invention by their Troop up in Arbroath. SNOPES busted the myth proving it has no Midge/Mossie repellent in it whatsoever. However, if it works for you, then fine. I'm blood group O+ and my blood is the cocktail, the nectar Mrs Mossie seeks out from the group sitting around a table as the blood she loves. I need something with DEET in it to protect me from a load of itchy blotches. Win some, lose some. 👀😢

Hi Robert, I hope that you are keeping well my friend. The tree huggers for my hammock are quite short and wouldn't really work with the pack frame as they are used in conjunction with the DD whoopie slings. I've always carried fuel in my trangia and never had a problem with leakages, at least up until now anyway. Your right about my dirty bottle. It's used specifically for my unfiltered water. As for skin so soft, I do believe that the boys up at RM Condor endorsed it's effectiveness against the formidable Scottish midges. However I do believe that deet is one of the only compounds that is truly effective against ticks. No hip flask for this trip I'm afraid but my Dad has donated a miniature bottle of Glenfiddich for the cause, that I'm sure that I'll find room for in my bedroll. Anyway mukka, I hope that you enjoy the rest of your weekend. Take care and I hope to see you out again soon. Atvb, J 👍.

Jason that was awesome and much needed. Literally turned on the computer unsure what to watch this popped up, I thought the frame to be a great idea, I like the way you double up things, so the gloves to protect the shoulders as well as for your camp chores, the bandana with the burner, you pack so well, I said it before about the tardis😎. Did you cut the wood and season it or was it from a dead branch, or was it green even? i.m defo interested in the weight, weight is always an issue for me. I struggle with some of the gear that I carry around the shoulders so I might give this one a go. Great bit of kit you take to be honest, and you're right about the gear that you know that works, some of the brand stuff is alright but pricey. There's a wesite which you probably know about called military mart and some of the stuff on there is just so practible but also cheap. I bought a czech bed roll I think it's called, it's basically a bivi and a solid quality woolen blanket, i think I paid £11.99 at the time and I also bought a bivi bag somewhere else (brand) for £50 and the bedroll is better! Some of the ex army gear is awesome. I have yet to learn the art of going light but you have mastered it. Lovely wood too, thanks Jason, really enjoyed.

Thanks for another awesome comment Chris 👍. I took the wood from a downed sycamore which was relatively still green. I stripped the bark and constructed the frame straight away. I'll get back to you regarding the weight, once I've finally packed it for the trip mate. I know of Military Mart. There a fantastic company and there's a lot of great surplus gear out there that doesn't cost a small fortune. I've heard really good things about the Czech bedrolls too. Might have to get one at that price. Many thanks, as always buddy. Take care. Atb, J 👍.

@@SandybackOutdoors great stuff, i've a walking stick that i cut a while back and it's still drying out, so losing weight, I guess the frame might also lighten up a little still yet. Looking forward to the overnighter, hope you have a good one, military mart is dangerous....always need that extra something😎. Take care, cheers Chris
