This week we analyse Westminster's response to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, after Rishi Sunak and Keir Starmer gave statements to the House of Commons on the first day back from recess.
We follow up with the report from the Independent Expert Panel recommending Tory MP Peter Bone is suspended after the group found he committed "varied acts of bullying and one act of sexual misconduct" after a complaint by a former staffer.

I'm going to say it. Ed Campbell, son of Alastair Campbell, is the Suella Braverman of the Pubcast. First, he calls all Scottish nationalists moronic simpletons. Before launching into a tirade about how he hates the audience and advocates for anti-abortion. He also advocates for British colonial territory. Stating "We're not giving it back". This onslaught by Mr Campbell is so horrid it makes seasoned journalist Ava Santina burst into tears. As his colleague sits next to him, sobbing uncontrollably. Ed Campbell laughs maniacally at her sorrow. Even Oli "Boomer take" Dugmore is left speechless and stunned. My sources have told me that Ed Campbell has extensive links to the fishing industry in the UK and Big Tuna. Don't believe his lies. #notmygoldenboy #BigTuna

Ok so its like this . we have to look at what Hamas have done on it's own , we're not allowed to bring up any of the atrocities committed by Israel against the Palestinians for the last however many decades to give this any context but when we look at what Israel is doing now , has done over the last week and is planning to do then in this case we are not only allowed we are directed to look at what Hamas has done previously hmmm?? an no one sees the hypocrisy
@sciencefliestothemoon2305
@sciencefliestothemoon2305 10 ай бұрын
Hypocrisy is receiving as much aid money as Gaza has received and then use it to build rockets, train terrorists, buy weapons instead of providing your people with everything else that is actually important. Or are we ignoring the fact that the desalination plant was declined because is was Jewish? The Palestinians behave like the many Germans after the war, "we haven't known nothing". Sure. Israel could care diddly squat about Gaza, but provides electricity, water and healthcare. All things that should be in that place anyway, with all the aid money.

Really enjoyed the nuanced discussion of the Gaza/Israel tragedies… quite different from lots of content elsewhere. But I think it’s worth just acknowledging that we don’t have access to verified news from Gaza because the Israeli state has not allowed access to journalists or investigators who gather evidence of war crimes etc. So we have to rely on social media content to portray their experiences and it creates space for bad actors to take advantage of that. It’s part of what we should be demanding as an international community: humanitarian aid, basic necessities of life, safe zones, access for journalists and investigators who gather evidence of war crimes. That’s my opinion as someone who has asked “am I being radicalised?” a few times this week.

Magna Carta was agreed and signed at Runneymede near Egham in Surrey. Not Windsor! You can walk there and it’s a English Heritage site. It’s a great place for a picnic no matter what the weather. Egham is only famous for three things: 1) RHUL (Royal Holloway University London) which makes Egham swarming with roadmen or posh students like a bee hive on a sweltering summer’s day! 2) A very nice Italian deli which give 30% off for students. Go there - it’s bloody amazing! Cheapest lunch in London. 3) There is a statue of the Magna Carta outside of the Tescos on the high street. It’s a beauty of modern architecture for sure - not where a load of yobs piss all over it if you’re out past the 9:30pm curfew which is the time where the probability of being shanked goes up from 10% to 95%. The joys of Surrey hey! But honestly it’s better than Telford and that’s the main thing.

Not the "mother of parliaments" at all. That is the Alþingi on Iceland, which is around 300 years older. (Anglicised to "Althing" since we stopped using "the thorn" in our orthography, leading to utter nonsense such as "Ye Olde Tea Shoppe. Icelandic, one of not many languages which has the sound we now represent with "th", preserved "the thorn". I mean þe þorn, of course.) This "mother of parliaments" guff seems to have been invented by John Bright in 1865. There are some things to be said in his favour, but world history obviously wasn't one of them. Ferrier wasn't "immediately out". A suspension of 10 days or more triggers a recall petition, which has to be signed by 10% of electors within a time period (I think it's 6 weeks, but not quite sure). If the recall petition in Rutherglen & Hamilton West had failed to reach the threshold, Ferrier would have carried on as the MP. But it did reach the threshold, so there was a by-election. She was still eligible to stand in the by-election, but she chose not to. Most of them just resign when their suspension is confirmed, but it looks like Bone is looking for more humiliation. It's two by-elections now impending. Scott Benton, the Tory MP for Blackpool South was caught for straightforward corruption by a sting operation - people pretending to be from the gambling industry offering bribes. It was all recorded and, unlike Bone, he had the Tory whip removed early this year. How come that one hasn't had more coverage? He must have been known to be an iffy one to be targeted by this sting.

A lot of people are confusing what they believe is moral, what is politics, what is diplomacy and what is the law. I'm afraid that while the Israelis are committing war crimes, clearly a lot of people do not understand what the laws of armed conflict permit and in what circumstances they permit them. A lot more 'inhumanity' than you may think is permitted largely because the governments and for that matter most ordinary people still believe war is justified in some circumstances. Civilians, for example, do not have 100% protection, nor do hospitals or mosques or synagogues and parties to the conflict do not all have the same commitments to support the civilian population in the way many seem to think. A lot of the protection offered is 'circumstantial' and not absolute. I'm not saying this to justify what anyone is doing just to say that many of the 'protections' people think combatants and in particular civilians have are not as definitive as many media outlets are suggesting.

Exactly, it’s being spoken about by many as if it’s a war between two armies. Hamas are a small militant group with a few rockets. Israel has a huge heavily funded military, receiving Billions of Funding from the U.S. and the U.K. in particular. All the parroting of Israel has the right to defend itself. Very few see the hypocrisy of saying that and not also believing Palestine has the same right to self defence. Are Gazans supposed to just live in an open air prison with regular bombing raids put upon them and just lay down and take it? Is the West Bank supposed to just accept IDF soldiers and Israeli police controlling them through checkpoints throughout their territory? Just get to work, school, or visit family etc?

They are literally telling you we're cutting water, food, electricity and fuel to 2 million people, they ordered them to move south whilst bombing the south, they flattening entire residential neighbourhoods, they have killed a thousand kids, all of these are blatant war crimes, and you're calling for humanitarian aid to go through instead of demanding a ceasefire and a condemnation???
