Today's video is about 🌱Anthurium pollination 101 🌱 Anthuriums are so much fun to pollinate because they hybridize so easily! Today I talk about a few quick pointers on how anthurium pollination works, what to look out for/keep in mind if you are planning to pollinate your plants.
Then I also give you guys a quick update on my seedlings (seed parent: Anthurium crystallinum black, pollen parent: Anthurium magnificum), about 1 month post harvest, how they are doing, and what I am doing for care!
I hope you enjoy this video, and let me know if you are planning to hybridize your anthuriums! 🥰

Hi! Great content! Just wanted to mention, I have had personal experience and heard of others who have pollen develop on the seed parent inflo even after successful pollination! As in, pollen forms but berries also still form after! Maybe it’s species dependent?

yes, this is totally possible! I didn't mention it during the video but that is actually what happened to my Crystallinum black when I first pollinated it, so for a while I was holding my breath about whether or not the pollination was truly successful! The inflorescence started changing color/shape, and continued to produce pollen, although not as much compared to an un-pollinated inflorescence. Hmm, I do wonder if it's species dependent as well, or perhaps maturity-dependent? So cool regardless! Thank you for mentioning this! 🤩

Plants are so smart- if they’re only mature enough to have one inflorescence, they’ll have to cross pollinate with other specimens, widening the gene pool of the seeds…but if it gets big and mature enough to have multiple inflorescences, it has proven itself to have good enough genetics to make seeds on its own 💪🏼 so freakin’ cool! 🌿

they are insanely cool!!! If plants were sentient the way humans/animals are, I bet they could literally take over the world 😂

If two anthurium are not from the same section or are endemic to different regions in the tropical americas what will happen is you'll have a lower to impossible success rate when trying to polinate/ create hybrids. So like, the mexican anthurium groups aren't able to be hybridized with the peruvian group for example. Sometimes it does work however and we get awesome stuff like Veitchii X Papililaminum or veitchii X forgetii. So it's not impossible, just really unlikely lol. I couldn't actually open the file so Idk if veitchii is part of the same section as the Papi or forgetii, however apart from a few indonesian sellers, I have never seen a veitchii X velvet Anthurium hybrid anywhere else, which would lead me to think the success rate is low when hybridizing it with velvet anthurium 🤷‍♂️ imagine a Veitchii X Warocqueanum though 🥲🔥 So happy to see you come over to KZfaq! Been watching all your videos and am excited to see your channel grow! Thanks for the awesome chill vibes content and have a lovely week 😎💪🏻

yes! I've seen some really interesting crosses coming from other collectors/nurseries, but it sounds like only a very few number of berries end up developing, and then only very few seeds successfully germinate, so they are truly special! Ah that cross sounds like a dream!!! When I first started I thought a King x Queen would have been so perfect 😆

yay I'm glad you found this helpful!! You can definitely collect the pollen and store it in the meantime if you don't have another inflo that is receptive. Good luck!
