+Gayle Thompson (Luv2Clay) did you say in one of your other videos to get the larger of the two core adapters offered on Amazon? I want to order but can't remember which video clarified which one.
@Mimismarketva
@Mimismarketva 8 жыл бұрын
No - get the smaller set of the two unless you want to make beads with larger holes in them. I have both sets but normally only use the smaller one.

Both canes are lovely and the video is so easy to follow. Is it the lighting or is the yellow rose made differently. It looks more like a spiral and fan fold. I enjoy all your videos.

To be honest, it's been so long since I did the yellow rose that I don't remember exactly how I did it. I think I did it the same way but added more petals but I can't be sure.

Gayle, thank you, sincerely for showing how to do this most beautiful cane. I like it just the way it is w/no filler. It is exquisite & do you ever sell the canes you make ? I know you put so much work into them they would be hard to get rid of. Be blessed (Felicia, Texas)

I am so impressed. Is "packing" when you put pieces of transluscent around the rose that are shaped to make a circle? Does transluscent really fade out when put on top of a background? This is so great.
@Mimismarketva
@Mimismarketva 6 жыл бұрын
Yes. The 'filler' (or packiing) you put around your design is meant to keep the shape of your design. I usually use translucent unless I've planned to use it as a bead. Then I would use the best color for my design. Translucent is exactly that - translucent - not clear. Depending on the brand of clay you use also determines how clear it is. Some turn yellowish when baked and others don't. In order for it to keep a 'halo' from being around your design when you apply it to another sheet of clay, it needs to be REALLY thin. Try going to thebluebottletree.com/. Ginger has an article on the different translucent clays. Maybe that will help you.

Thank you, I am glad for the Ginger vid. I appreciate so much your showing every step and any problems or situations on the way. This is how one really learns. Vids that make it all seem too simple are intimidating to me. Thank you.

please tell me what that metal oval looking thing is your cutting with? is it a pop can cut up? blades can get really pricy and I love using things around the house. like jumbo popsicle sticks for things. it doesn't stick to the clay and it presses and helps shape so good. ;)

oh, and glue sticks work great! they get rid of creases well as well as rolling on top of a cane to smooth it out. I use the mini one but I'm sure the reg size ones hell also. :)
@Mimismarketva

No it's not homemade. It is a potter's kidney. I don't remember where I got it. I've had it for years. I'm sure if you google it you can find a source.

Would you please be so kind in explaining why do you off-set the two clays and then cut them evenly?
@Mimismarketva
@Mimismarketva 4 жыл бұрын
Sorry but I'm not clear what off-set you are asking about. Did you mean when I was doing the Skinner Blend? If so, I was just thinking while I was working and changed my mind. If it's something else, please explain and I'll try to answer you. Thanks for watching my videos.

Gayle HELP! I am trying to make a Stargazer lily petal cane...not the whole flower but a petal I can shape for 3-D effect. Mine always squishes up horribly! :(
@Mimismarketva
@Mimismarketva 8 жыл бұрын
What brand of clay are you using? You need a firm clay for this. And - after making the cane, it needs to rest overnight to firm up. A few hours in the freezer will also help. I have a Polymer Cafe magazine that has a Stargazer Lilly tutorial. I'll read up on it and see what they suggest.
@Bettina257
@Bettina257 8 жыл бұрын
thanks for your reply! I am using sculpey III clay. no I didn't rest it :( that was most likely the problem. Any more suggestions are appreciated!
@Mimismarketva
@Mimismarketva 8 жыл бұрын
Sculpey III is a very soft, sticky clay and is not good for forming 3D shapes. Besides, after it is baked it is very brittle so even if you could get a petal formed, it would probably break if handled. Try using Premo, Fimo OR better yet, Kato Polyclay! Kato is the strongest but is not easily found except online. I do believe Hobby Lobby carries it in their stores. I order mine directly from Donna Kato at PrairieCraft.com. My 2nd choice would be Kato mixed with Premo. Premo alone is good but it sometimes gets soft when you work with it but not as soft as Sculpey III. Whatever clay you decide to use, it needs to rest after you make the cane. The clay is warm when you work with it which is what makes it soft. Letting it "cool off" helps it to firm up. Let me know if you need any further help. It would probably be better to post on my Facebook page (facebook.com/g0tclay/) rather than here. It is difficult to keep up with Comments on KZfaq. Thanks!
