THis is very interesting, what a pity is not available in Spain now.. Did you know this press and seal plastic was invented by the husband of a really well known KZfaqr that makes fantastic greeting cards called Jennifer McGuire? He also was in the team that developed the Swifer duster cloths, they are great inventions

So glad that you tested this (no pun intended!). I prefer this version of Glad Wrap in my kitchen and pick it up in multiple roll bundles at Costco. Now I just need to keep one type on hand.

Thanks for sharing, Cindy! Another use is to put a beveled edge on the clay when you're adding another layer to a designed piece, to make it thicker for the final product. Helen Breil shared that using a patty paper over the layers, then cutting your shape, produces a nice, beveled edge. I've tried this, and it works well. I'm new to this medium, so hints are wonderful! Thanks for all you do!

Great tips for using press and seal. My favorite is to protect the clay against cat hair. Cat hair always knows the best places to stick to something. Also, I'm very intrigued with the red and white block that you covered, that looks like a knitted Christmas sweater. Do you have any videos or tips on how to make something like that? Thanks so much!

I love your channel! Thanks for all your advice and info. I know you suggest gorilla glue to adhere baked polymer clay to bail. What glue do you suggest to adhere to clear items such as glass, fake ice, things that are clear? Since the glue will be noticeable. Super glue? Will that be strong enough to hold?

Hey Cindy, have you tried using the press n seal to round the edges when using a cookie cutter? (Laying plastic wrap on a piece of clay then pressing the cookie cutter into the clay) I love using regular plastic wrap for that purpose, but I'm wondering if the press n seal would be too thick and inflexible for that. I figured I'd ask you before running to the store to buy some lol

Great tip Cindy, tried this myself and its great to wrap up all my cane creations safely. I did find, however, that it left my test pieces sticky, so I wrapped it with the sticky side out and found that this eliminated that sticky texture from my clay, but it does leave the sticky stuff on the outside. Have you experienced this with your work?

Your videos are such an inspiration and amazing resource for a newbie like me. I've got a question I hope you can answer, about findings. Specifically bar pins for brooches and pins. I've been buying the packs of 60 "bead landing" brand from Michaels. But after a short while both the gold and silver tone ones turn dark, kind of like tarnish. Not attractive. Do you have advice on what brand, or good quality source for bar pins. And bails too if possible. Good resources for findings is a necessity for someone like me, who mostly orders online because I live in a remote area. I'm a two hour drive from the nearest Michaels store so when I go for supplies I try to be well informed when I make my list of what to buy. And ordering online can be hit or miss on good quality. And, amazing lady, when it comes to this kind of question - you're the guru I go to... Thanks!
@hkreations5108
@hkreations5108 7 жыл бұрын
I also use the "bead landing" brand and haven't had any trouble with it (yet). Maybe you could put a varnish on the findings after they're already in the baked clay. Just to use up your supply.
@Karai9
@Karai9 7 жыл бұрын
Tierracast makes really lovely findings that seem to tarnish less. The silver and copper will still tarnish, but that's just the nature of those metals, and you can always clean them gently. Tierracast is more expensive than the bead landing stuff, but it's not outrageously priced so I feel that the price difference is more than made up for in the quality difference. Also, I usually wait to buy any Tierracast stuff until it's on sale from places like Lima Beads or Fire Mountain Gems. Now, I'm not really sure if they make pin brooches (as I've never really checked) but they do make bails for sure. Hopefully that's a bit helpful anyway :)

Hi orchidjewels48 and Ann. L, I have several baking videos that will help you with the issue of breaking clay that you will want to check out. The problem stems from many factors, clay brand, temperature, length of time, etc. Watch as many of the videos as you can and your problems will be solved.

Being new to polymer clay, I followed this advise. I live in the UK and ordered from Japan - not cheap! .. I wrapped some of my 1st canes in it and 2 weeks later went to use them ....they have become really sticky!! I'm so disappointed as I have been relying on info from the 'professionals' :(
@PolymerClayTutor
@PolymerClayTutor 6 жыл бұрын
Hi I am so sorry to hear that has happened to you. I have NEVER heard of any issues storing polymer clay in Glad Press n' Seal. My first question to you is, did you use this exact name brand or possibly a different brand? And second, what brand of polymer clay did you wrap in this plastic wrap? There are some brands that react with some brands of plastic wrap so knowing this info would really help.
@vernabenn5592
@vernabenn5592 6 жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for responding. I am using the Glad brand and the clay is premo. It occurred to me today, because I have other premo stored in the Glad wrap and it's ok, that the problem might be that the translucent I used was crumbly and hard to condition so I had added a tiny bit of sculpey liquid clay to it - not anywhere near enough to account for stickiness. So, I'm thinking that perhaps there is something in the liquid clay, added to the mix that has caused a reaction?
@vernabenn5592
@vernabenn5592 6 жыл бұрын
I re-checked the opened packs of premo that I'd wrapped in Glad press & seal and they are starting to go sticky too so the Glad wrap is no good at all for premo sculpey .... I'm sure I'll find other uses for it ...
@PolymerClayTutor
@PolymerClayTutor 6 жыл бұрын
That is very weird. I have tons of Premo Clay wrapped in Glad Press n Seal that hasn't gone sticky at all. You said you ordered it from Japan. Does your box say BPA-free? I wonder if you may be getting a different product than what we have here in North America? That happens sometimes.
@vernabenn5592
@vernabenn5592 6 жыл бұрын
Good point! but I checked the box, it looks exactly like yours on the vid and it does say BPA free. It also says distributed in the USA by the Glad products company with the address in Oakland. There has to be some difference, I doubt there's any difference in the clay. Thank you so much for your input though- it's a mystery!

Not sure if you have done a video on this or not, though I am sure you have individual videos on each....... but could you explain the basic differences between all the different kinds of clay.......sculpey, sculpey III, fimo, fimo soft, fimo professional, etc etc. I am on the newer side to clay and this just baffles me, all the differences in one line is confusing. Though I have watched endless videos no one has really described the differences in one video.....maybe with a visual chart of some sort? ie more brittle, flexible, more on the firm side when raw, soft when raw, etc etc.....and even technical difference put out by the makers. I don't have a lot of money to be buying some of each just to test it out and find out I don't like it. All of this is thoroughly confusing and gives me anxiety just picking out clay in the store lol.
@karenlal9242
@karenlal9242 7 жыл бұрын
I would stick with premo and fimo soft, fimo professional is a lot harder and firm so if you prefer that its a good choice but hard to condition, and sculpey III is not good clay IMO and also in Cindy's opinion, it's brittle, sticky, weak, etc. Sculpey or supersculpey that comes in the big packs with 1 or 2 color choices is okay for sculpting large pieces that you are going to paint after. Cernit is a good brand, Kato is too but smells bad and is quite firm sometimes, and I don't know anything about Pardo, there is lots of info I've seen tons of videos on all the polymer clays :) Hope that helps. Cindy only uses premo and souffle and doesn't have a ton of information on all the different ones out there. BTW Souffle is made by sculpey and is lighter in weight, and has a suede finish and can be mixed with premo.
