Completely ridiculous! But that's what makes it so funny. I've seen a film made by B-52 crews who were sitting on Alert. It showed 2nd LT through Lt.Colonel sitting on a bench. The Full Bird walks by and his papers from a folder he's holding fall out onto the floor. The Colonel looks down at them. Then looks at the Lt.Colonel sitting on the bench. He turns and looks at the Major. The Major turns and looks at the Captain. Who turns and looks at the 1st Lt. Who turns and looks at the 2nd Lt. He turns and looks and sees no one. Shakes his head, gets up and picks up the Colonel's papers off the floor. It was called. The Chain of Command.

Lydia it's amazing you got to see this. If it won't cause any problems be sure to show it to the rest of your family. When I was a medic in the US ARMY, I got on the military television network several times. My kids did get to see a couple of them. I always wanted to get a copy of them, but when I would get home I always forgot to get the copies. I'm so sorry you lost him. But from my POV I think he would want you to show this to his family and friends.

Not so, cause after we had to respond to the Challenger disaster at Patrick AFB, a few of us made " Mr Bill Goes To Space" based on the Saturday Night Live charachter, and he gets blown up six ways from Sunday, Spot gets fried at the launch, and Mr Sluggo has to hit the self destruct....leading to more black humor. I have the last VHS copy of the endeavor from 1986. Nothing wrong with satire....the whole miltary is a joke these days, so why not?

I probably should have explained to those who aren't familiar with the Farm Animal joke. You're not supposed to name them, because you get too attached. When you know what's going to happen to them. @@drewpooters62 Yeah, the shovel loads of cash that got put into the Shuttle Program was obscene. And Elon Musk has severely embarrassed NASA to show what you can do with a space program that has actual incentive to improve the way things are done. That said, The Space Shuttle was outrageously spectacular for what it did, when it did it. And a strong argument can be made for justifying the cost, with it's main goal in its last decade of building the ISS, in that while the science that has come out of ISS can in no way justify the Billions of $, just the overhead example of nations working together in cooperation instead of being poised to blow up the planet has an intangible value that cannot be put into dollars and cents. Others try to justify the cost of shuttle because of other missions like Hubble Deploy and Hubble Repair, but they ignore that it would have been MUCH cheaper to just launch replacements, like the NRO does, rather than going back up to fix it. Your effort at Patrick must have been brutal. The design decision to not give them any means of escape was unconscionable. No one was ever held accountable for that.

I remember signs on the walls of our hangar in West Germany that said, "He lost a wrench. We lost an aircraft and crew." Jet engines will suck up almost anything, and helicopter's mechanical parts just add to the fun! We did a FOD walk one winter morning after six inches of snow, and one sergeant became the target of a snowball attack. He didn't have sense of humor about it.

@@wheels-n-tires1846 The 80's was the best decade of my life. I was working as a civilian in ISR. The Army treated me great because their was no housing in the civilian economy so I was put in the BOQ. I knew every bugle call from revellile to la rapelle before taps. Also all the flights I had to make SPACE A because where I was there was only one plane (civilian) in the morning and another outbound in the evening plus being put up in the BOQ, and an officers club card under my door one morning. The most important thing I learned was if I was TDY on ITO to a Naval Base, eat in the BOQ, if it was an AFB, find the NCO club to eat in, and if it was an Army Garrison, find the closest McDonald's. The commendations and medal I was given was worth more than all the money in the world, but the coolest thing was the letter of commendation that was sent by the Agency's Director to my parents rather than to me commending me on my work ethic, patriotism, etc. Framed in solid walnut and blue cutout border within a gold plated glass holder at government expense. Hangs in my private office now, where no one can see it.

SPOOF?? Was "This is Spinal Tap" a spoof?? Was "Airplane" a spoof?? Was "Blazing Saddles" a spoof?? Well...OK, they were...you got me! Seriously, I enjoyed "Popgun"! The bike riding on the flightline was especially funny! A High Five and "Good Job" to all involved! I've seen more than a few DIY productions and this rates up there with the good ones. When I was an F-15 Crew Chief at the USAF Fighter Weapons School at Nellis AFB in Vegas in the early 1980s, we would host a a half dozen F-14s for a week with each class we put through. We did our morning FOD Walk, and the Squids would walk behind us, elbow to elbow, practically nose to the ground picking up every last kernel of desert sand that we invariably missed. Then they would bring a gallon-sized Ziploc bag into our break room and rub our faces in it. Tomcat intakes are much lower to the ground than soaring Eagle intakes, so our jets didn't suck nearly as much. Watching the FOD Walk on this flick, then seeing the orange get fed to the Tomcat had me rolling.

My brother did a spoof on Top Gun called Top Scum when he was a search and rescue pilot in Japan for the marines after graduating from Annapolis in 1980. It was on VHS and he played Maverick and had a reoccurring line “Butt me” (cigarette). They torched model planes on a wire for special effects and Turkey (Goose) was killed when he was trapped in a car and crushed by a plane taxiing on the runway. They used a plastic model car that was crushed by the wheel of the plane. 😂. It got passed around his Naval Academy pals so not sure where it ended up. Great cheesiness at its best (worst).

20-year P-3 Aircrewman here. During one of my tours at Moffett Field, our O-in-C was transferring out, so the other Boot Chiefs and I made a movie very much like PopGun. We even had the P-3-on-a-stick! Sure wish somebody kept a copy of that. But this brings back so many memories. Even Nimrod walking through the hangar deck reminded me of those days. I can still smell the JP, the exhaust, the aroma of a brand-new nylon flight jacket right out of the plastic bag, (and the smell of the old one!). FOD Walkdowns immediately after Quarters. (Kicking the FOD into the padeyes cracked me up!) Ah, memories!

The acclaim wasn't quite as widespread in the Chief Petty Officer community, which agreed that it might have been better named, "Flop Gun." While these officers were wasting time making this lemon, the Chiefs were, as usual, sitting in Chief's Quarters, quietly running the Navy and all its components. The only platter we want is one piled high with steak and lobster. And yes, we could make our own video; we even tried, but unfortunately we couldn't find enough Chiefs who were out of their racks right now. Signed; MCPO, USN (Ret.)
