i used to work in a van conversion shop in the metal dept. my job was cutting holes in the sides for windows and the roof for raised roofs. i had a jig that i sat on the top of the van that was held in place with magnets to mark where to cut the roof off so you only had to cut it once, and didn't wind up with an uncomfortable trip to production manager's office to explain why the hole was bigger than the fiberglass topper. we used 1"x1" steel angle iron around the edge of the hole in the roof to stiffen and support the topper.

Being a well knowledgeable mechanic myself got to love when friends come by with something for you to work on.

Quigley conversion vans are very Rad and worth a lot of $$. A pop top is an awesome addition.

3:07 prolly would've been a good idea to leave a lip. Said lip could then be raised with a pair of body work pliers and made into a water rail, then the top kit lowered and affixed to it. Whenever they put AC units inside our fleet vehicles, the guys at the install yard do that. They have never leaked in (some) 15 years. It's just water denial.

The ford is cool but the nostalgia with the eurovan is unreal, grew up with one as the family van and it wad inevitable i had to get me a syncro 😄

I love campers! If you can you can fabricate some interior parts and make it look industrial it would look great

Getting harder to find decent 7.3 vans. That looks like a nice one. I have a 2001 7.3 E350, it's been a good machine for hauling dirt bikes and SxS rippers, wish it had that 4wd conversion, that's money!

GHP needs a yard crane. Either a junky fixer-upper truck one or a static pole one before the shop. So many things could be made easier with the use of a crane.

When the vid was starting,I was thinking "Wow,now they have a roof chunk to turn into a sled.." but with the vents,not so much.At least you now have a couple 12v vent fans for future fun projects..?The 'van life' has unlimited possibilities.

I loved this video! I've always been interested in those 7.3 4x4 vans. I ended up getting a 7.3 f250 instead but I can say that a tuner makes a HUGE difference. Night and day... Not very expensive. Not a difficult installation.

Short/Lower vans just look cooler and save on gas but mostly as solo vanlifer whos travel range is only 600 miles I like smaller short vans because I'm all about stealth and access.. being able to do a 3 point turn in a tight space, squeeze through a 8' dirt path, park at retail spaces or low parking garages is way too important and sure its what real van life is like for most. My design considers that when you factor the footprint of the bed, the counter and the cab, the actual space you can actually stand and walk in is tiny. Also considering I personally will always be warm weather van (95% No snow and never under 30F), I realized my roof vent was always open, so I redesigned roof with a custom open screened roof opening under a solar panel where I can stand even at 6'2. Rain water never gets in and the van is always ventilated (yet dry and bug free)
