This 2L Corsori Air Fryer looks brand new, but yet it doesn't work. It is sold in it 1000s on Amazon. Will it be fixable? Let's find out.

My thought was to use an unused pop rivet. Use a pin vice to drill down the shaft and epoxy it into place, this way you would be reinforcing the rod and even the bottom would have a rounded end.

Not a bad idea! Tho Idk how the aluminium (or steel pin) would be problematic WRT its potential proximity to high temperatures; the alternative could be a fine-grained wooden peg (eg box or pear) if a high-temp-tolerant plastic rod couldn't be easily sourced

You could also rebuild the broken of part with baking soda and superglue. That makes a very strong bond and builds up layer by layer, there are some videos where people rebuild plastic hinges and other parts with It. Give It a try, Vince.

I'd probably get some thin walled brass tubing (model shops) cut a length and place it over the plastic actuator, fill it with epoxy, then file down the tip it a slope to interface with the basket.. An alternative solution with the microswitch is to add a sliver of plastic between the actuator arm and the microswitch plunger, sticking it to the actuator arm, bending those arms and getting angle right can be a right pain in the A.

I'd be tempted to completely cut off the sticky-out bit, drill a hole in the end of the rest of it and press fit a length of steel rod. I have lengths of precision ground steel rod in all sorts of sizes from stripping down printers and whatnot :D Also that fan might need a look :O Not sure if the bearings are shot or if an impeller is rubbing on something. Nice little unit though, great video! :D

Hi Vince. I saw a recall on Cosori air fryers. Last February, about 2 million Cosori air fryers faced a recall because of faulty wiring and reports of air fryers catching fire, burning, melting, overheating and smoking. Some consumers reported minor burn injuries and property damage. “Every time I use the air fryer my smoke detector comes on,” wrote one consumer from Costa Mesa, California, last February referring to their Cosori Pro air fryer.

Nice fix. My plan of attack would be to lengthen the rod, with a screw. Precision drilling required, into the end of broken rod. Then insert a screw, (preferrably with a round head). Adjust the length by trial and error, then epoxy the exposed thread and smooth over.

That's a clever fix. I was trying to think of a way to replace the last part with a metal rod, like drilling out the lower part and trying to glue in a metal rod into the lower half of the mechanism or similar but I wouldn't have thought of dremeling off part of it to make it stick through more.

Good plan. Had it been me and especially after reading the reviews that it's a heat related problem, I may have opted to measure the pin length from the bottom of the wider area. Then cut it flush with the bottom of the wider area, drilled a hole into the wide area and used a long piece of all-thread (or screw with the head cut off) and threaded it into the hole. That would create a metal tip and would make it more durable in the long run.

Great fix. Another possible approach could be using shrink tubing that has glue inside the tube. I've used that type of shrink tubing to fix a broken plastic arm for a tablet stand and it worked perfect, especially because the glue dries hard as a rock making it an incredibly strong bridge. You could have either used the shrink tube to elongate the shortened piece of plastic, or use the shrink tube to add another longer piece of plastic to the existing piece and trim it to size.

A fine gag, but it would cripple the usability. Very soon after buying one of these things you learn that It’s very handy to be able to pop the drawer out to see if your chips or whatever are done, and then pop it back in when they are not. My one, at least, will happily stop the heat/fan/whatever when the drawer is out.

I will say I have an older air fryer with a physical knob to set the time and a slider to set the temperature, rather than capacitive controls. It too will stay on whilst you pull the drawer out to check the food. If you want to stop it, you have to turn the timer knob all the way off first. At least with Vince’s repaired one, if you bypassed the switch, you could still always press pause before pulling the drawer out

@guidomersmann9744

I would redesign the mounted plastic part and print it using a 3d printer. Since space is not the issue here, the plastic part can be much stronger as 3D printing does not require the injection molding rules. The new switch mount could be shaped like the switch itself. It would even be possible to use a metal pin instead of the plastic, so the exposed part is metal. The great thing about 3d printing is that you not even require the original position of the switch, so it is all about the latch mechanism and the position of the micro switch can be changed with the new design. Of course the heat is an issue here, but again you can shield the area with capton tape. However the micro switch is not protected, too, so the heat is not a real issue here and stays below 80°C, so even ABS holds up. Usually my fixes are better than the original, because the weak point got removed, which is the real advantage of 3D printing. Not only repair stuff, but make it better and create a long lasting result and with some luck someone else already did the job and you just need to download a file and print it. Or you are the first and upload your design, so others can profit from your work.
@sublimationman
@sublimationman 2 ай бұрын
I have a bunch of small brass tubes (from hobby shops) I would find one that fits the end of that piece tightly and use that to extend the end (would not break), I would use high temp epoxy to bond it in place permanently. Of course I could also 3D print the entire piece in a high temp plastic (like carbon fiber polycarbonate) and that would be a good fix as well and you could always have spares just in case.
@sublimationman

one other option would be to just bypass that switch, my air fryer does not have a safety switch and I can pull the tray out with it on.

9:18 drill a small hole concentric into the pin. Get an appropriate length of piano wire to couple another extension (plastic, whatever) to it. cut to length, fix with epoxy. It doesn't even have to be the same diameter, it could sleeve over the pin, just drill the retaining hole of the bracket to suit, fill with epoxy . There's plenty of meat there to cope. They used the tool to cut off the casts from arms or legs or whatever. I got that tool for free when they retired it. It is a very useful tool. Only small things i would have done differently, but still the same results : . Before going in all this trouble, I would have tested it is the main issue, even though 99% it was going to be . Would consider wrapping the end of the fixed end with some thin metal, to avoid snapping once again . Maybe add a small nut at the end of the spring, to make sure the tension is going to be the same after lengthening the travel ( but apparently that was not needed ) -. I would consider 3d printing a replacement part made from heat restisting filament, like Nylon, since the fryer will not generally go over 200 C- Edit : scrap that, seems like there is no generally available 3d printed material that can come close to the glass transition you would need to resist cracking on things close to 200 C, might as well machine a metal part instead.... Overall though, good job modifying the end, pretty classy fix there.

I bought a Tower 2.5 Ltr air fryer from Amazon for £20 in a good friday deal, It worked well for a couple of weeks then it would not turn off when the basket was removed. After some investigation I thought the basket switch was stuck in the up position. Took it apart and the mechanism and switch is identical to your one. The plastic had not broken but melted and jammed together, obviously the plastic has a fairly low melting point, or the fryer leaks heat where the switch is. I cobbled up a M5 bolt to use as the rod that activates the micro switch, where it presses on the switch bar I placed washers held together with 2 M5 bolts, these also held the spring. After a lot of fapping around and adjusting the bolts and washers and spring tension it finally worked as it should do. I'ts been working for around 3 weeks now with no problems, but I'm wondering if the metal nuts an bolts etc will eventually get very hot melting something else

I recently did a full disassemble and deep clean of my Philips airfryer. I don't know why they make these things so difficult to clean, but i bet i'm gonna get another 6 years out of it now, where most would have thrown it out.

Good solution. I would have drilled a hole in the rod inserted a small bit of paper clip and used a styrene rod with a hole in it and used plastic weld on it.

Looks like someone as tried glueing the black plastic piece that's prone to lifting and coming off , same happened to mine when separating the basket from the pan.

I would've 3D printed a new piece for a quick fix. For a quicker fix I probably would've screwed in a tiny screw or some kind of pin at the end to lengthen it. looking forward to the 3D printer fix 😄
