Great boats I have sailed with one from Canada to the Caribbean easy to launch after a few times of setup and they row great. I also have a 3.5 hp that gets me from the big boat to shore or the dingy dock.

Ports bote makes it extra hard to order a boat or get any info online without asking for a brochure. I just want the price with freight to Sacramento for a alpha 1 14 footer.

@Willy..yes but it folds up and seems pretty durable..costs seem to be in the $2,500 range which to penny pinching me doesn't seem all that bad..i've also seen a few used online for under $1,000. I occasionally live in places that don't have the space to keep a whole boat (i.e. no garage or backyard) so this would be the perfect solution.

After 11 years of ownership I love my Porta Bote. It's the 3 meter / 10' version. Only real problem is that the plastic transom piece is cracked down where it joins the hull. This leaks of course. Since nothing I have found will stick to the HDPE how can this be repaired?

Stainless mesh melted in with a soldering iron like a stitch. Won’t seal the leaking though

i love how rigid the material looks, how good is it in terms of resistance to hooks or say dropping something sharp accidentally. have you ever had to patch?

There are hundreds of videos on assembly but where are the instruction on taking it down and packing it away so you can drive home?

Just reverse the process; really. Pull the seat pins. Remove the seats. Stack the seats on top of each other and strap them together so they can be moved easily. Unpin the transom. Fold outside sections to the middle; this folds the transom as well. Put a strap around the folded bote.

I've watched the factory rep give a heavy hammer to a disbeliever at the Sacramento boat show; the guy pounded on the boat with no visible damage. I've run the boat into and over a sharp rock at 10 mph with only a long scratch. The round seam guards (black tubing) get scratched and wear if you drag the boat over sand/concrete, but can be replaced. Mine are now 4 years old and should go another 5 years before I will replace. I drag boat about 15 feet on concrete driveway pad to get it into garage; maybe 10 times a year.

I've said it on another video, I'll say it here...other videos of this boat's set up takes TWO guys 6.5 minutes...Luke does it in 2:20 (according to the video timer)...those other guys must be lame!! But then, they didn't edit anything out of their videos. Even so, ONE guy, 2.5 minutes? ya editted out MORE then 4 minutes (I cant' believe that ONE guy can set it up faster then two can). Dude is Superboatabuilder....(that's sarcasm for those that missed it)

I don't see any cuts in the video. Granted, the boat is very pliable; meaning it has been set up several times and the temperature is warm. Luke is a factory rep; he has a lot of practice. I set mine up in about 10 minutes by myself on a warm day; and my transom is quite balky. I would guess it takes about 5 minutes out of my 10 on the transom alone to get holes to align. I estimate I have set up my boat 10 times in last 3 years, so not a lot of practice.

@@merrymoppet how about if you don’t know, don’t answer. I just bought my 12’ alpha series brand new for $2300 on Memorial Day sale, free oars and shipping. Extra for dolly wheels, sail kit, etc. Not cheap, but with an outboard I’ll have a very capable boat for $5k that can come RV-ing with me everywhere. Worth it I think.

This video is very misleading, I purchased a 12' yesterday, surprised to find it's VERY difficult to put it together, It's very heavy and very rigid. And I think the manufacturer probably mis-advertised that only 12' can hold 4 people, unless you are talking about giants, for regular people, espeically in most family there are younger kids, a 10', in my opinion is more than sufficient.

Please see my reply above to Mr Rocque. Heavy? Not compared to a tin boat same size. Rigid; less so after set up several times or in warm weather. Be sure to use the stick and follow set up directions. Load capacity is stated in pounds, not people; be sure to count gear, pets and motor.

i am very disappointed with my porta bote it dose not handle well or hold up well for consistent use and replacement parts are extremely over priced

My experience is just the opposite. I have had my 12' er for 15 years now. Rowed it all over a variety of lakes and rivers including the CA delta. I frequently use a 5hp Nissan outboard without issue. It rows easily enough and handles fine under power. Like any boat you have to know it's limitations and have some seaman ship skills. About 5 years in I upgraded from the old style wooden seats to the new plastic style seats and painted the wooden transom, otherwise, I have never had anything break or needed parts from the factory. I did wear out a set of oarlocks about 10 years in but the replacements are an upgrade. I have really enjoyed it and it has done everything I wanted it to do. Hell, I even saw a couple taking one through the surf on the Oregon coast to go fishing. I would't do that but they said they do it all the time.

I have to second Noman; I upgraded to the folding transom and metal seats after 15 years on the original boat I had. Original boat had over 100 trips on it, many of them multiple days with no problems. It handles well in difficult seas, rows much better than a tin boat. Very stable, but light. If you step in when boat is floating, but don't shift all weight to boat, it slides away from dock or shore. Just be quick enough not to have to straddle; or use an oar in lake bottom to stabilize.
