Portal is a game about cake, along with solving puzzles, playing with physics and beating test chambers. This game is near flawless in my eyes and is a fantastic example of merging both story and gameplay elements together in a puzzle game. But what exactly made it as iconic as it is?

Hey! I accidentally forgot to add an on screen annotation for the clip of the speed runner! The channel name is ‘Can’t Even’ and comes up when searching for portal any% world records!! Also, I edited this entire thing while at an event but I hope it turned out well! This is proving to be a really busy time of year for me and I’m struggling to keep up with this sort of stuff, but trying my best! :))

One thing the game has that increases replayability is the different challenge modes. You have harder versions of the dual portal chambers, as well as the ability to speedrun the dual portal chambers in shortest time, number of portals, and steps. The game also doesn't really care how you complete a chamber. You can use a camera and the companion cube to skip the entire chamber, you can use a large drop to skip chamber 14, use portal peaking to avoid using elements in chamber 15, and they're encouraged in these speed challenges.

Naturally since the game is story heavy and a puzzler it will always struggle with this sort of stuff but any sort of challenge modes or speed runs are fantastic for helping extend play time! Also yeah, I really love portal for that. While it is great at easing players in, it’s versatile enough for a things like this to exist - for example, when watching back through some footage I kept seeing opportunities to do things a different (faster and easier) way than I was doing it, I can’t remember the chamber number off of the top of my head but I could hold the door open by standing on the button and then portal to the other side of it, skipping half the chamber

Portal does an amazing job as a setup game, Portal 2 on the other hand makes the mystery the main element and I love it to death

I love portal but portal 2 is for sure my favourite of them both! I absolutely love the story, mystery and lore elements of the second game and how they build off of the foundations of portal 1!

Portal mods do a great job at extending the length of the game and helping with replay ability. Portal stories Mel in portal 2 is probably the best mod If you just want more portal test chambers

I’ve seen a lot of different mods and community made stuff for portal but haven’t ever been too sure what sort of stuff is worth trying out, I will hopefully give this one a go if I get chance, thank you!

@@T1nk of the portal mods I've encountered, Portal Stories: Mel and Portal Reloaded are excellent projects and are both available on Steam. PS:M uses elements of Portal 2 and gives them new chambers and really feels like a fan-made Portal 3, whereas Reloaded introduces a green portal that allows you to travel forward/back in time, which I remember it using fairly well.

THANK YOU, if you are at all interested in portal lore I really recommend playing through the games and then watching some lore vids on youtube, it is really interesting! I really hope to make a vid on Portal 2 at some point later this year maybe, I absolutely love the old aperture lore so much :3

Also I'd like to recommend a video called "That Creepy Feeling - What is it with Source Games", if you haven't watched it yet, do so. Might explain some of the eerie vibe you feel with Portal

Portal is such a fantastic game. The fact myself and many others come back to portal and portal 2 every few years to replay them goes to show how good it is. I was so so happy to see you made a video on this absolute classic and can't wait to see you speedrun it :)
