The Laowa Argus 35mm prime lens lends itself to incredible visual characteristics, largely in part due to its whopping f/0.95 aperture. A fully manual lens, Pye walks through a series of 5 portraits while providing thoughts on the lens as well as tips on focusing with such a thin depth of field.

Pye and Kiara nailed it! I have a love/hate relationship with 35mm lenses, but the Laowa Argus RF 35mm is my cart under serious consideration.

It was good to see a lens other than those from the OEMs for once; and to see a manual lens being used for professional style work. I would have liked to see a picture taken of the model as the cyclists passed using a slower shutter speed to blur the cyclists while keeping the model in focus. It would have been an interesting composition.

Years ago I bought a Robinson 135mm f2 and it slows me down in shooting…love it. This one sounds like a keeper as well. The most unique images come from these style of lenses. Thanks for thee tip on this one as well.

This lens is interesting and I enjoyed the tutorial. I have the 7artisans 35mm f/0.95. The quality may not be as good as the Laowa Argus but may suit photographers looking for a budget lens

Shouldn't it be possible to use focus traps for this kind of shoot? My old Nikon D90 was able to use this technique. Mirrorless cameras analyze the image so quickly that it should be possible to trigger the shutter automatically when the eye is in focus.

for fashion portraits and advertising do you prefer 35mm or 45mm from the same line? Or does it not interfere with the choice, just personal taste? thanks

So the 2 shots at 8:35 both look great, but am I the only who prefers the 2nd shot? These are environmental portraits, that should highlight the location. And that’s why I prefer the 2nd shot. Just my personal and subjective opinion. Great video, really learned a lot. 👍👍👍

This is mainly a portrait and in the second photo the background distracts too much attention from the main subject while in the first shot it all fits in perfectly

if this attached to RP or Non IBIS body I think its difficult to get sharpness photos this is beautiful for high megapixel like A7R and R5 with IBIS Body you will get closer to L Series or Sigma Lenses.. .

Nice work but those shots under the bridge needed a strobe either tight focused down or grated off. Either way it would have made those couple of shots much better than trying to fix it in post. Just my opinion on those, that's all.

Have you done a video talking about quick framing for shots? I have a retainer client, a private gym with about 12 trainers. I try to capture every trainer working with clients. I am constantly moving every 30 seconds trying to grab as many different shots of every trainer as fast as possible
