CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Dylan (Josh Lucas) tells Richard (Richard Dreyfuss) to sacrifice Valentin (Freddy Rodrguez) in order to climb through the elevator shaft.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Set adrift in the vast waters of the North Atlantic for a luxury New Year's Eve party staged in the ship's magnificent ballroom, the massive ocean-liner Poseidon receives an unexpected jolt when a rogue, 100-foot wave rolls it completely upside down, forcing the surviving passengers to fight their way to safety in Das Boot director Wolfgang Petersen's waterlogged blockbuster. Trapped beneath the waterline and implored by the captain to remain in place until a rescue team arrives, the panicked survivors struggle to keep their cool as the water begins to rush in, infernos blaze all around, and a loss of electricity plunges the doomed vessel into total darkness. Seasoned gambler Dylan Johns (Josh Lucas) isn't willing to wage his life on the prompt arrival of help, though, and as he attempts to navigate the treacherous, inverted maze of death, he is flanked by desperate band of like-minded seafarers including eight-year-old Conor (Jimmy Bennett) and his mother, Maggie (Jacinda Barrett), reticent stowaway Elena (M

Its Hypx Movie logic : by being nice to someone by holding a table so he could get to safety and letting him climb to safety first , your reward is : you get shaken of his leg , fall down from about 20 meters (or maybe even more) , get impaled by metal , crushed by an elevator and you burn to death

This always pissed me off. The old dude was going to commit suicide, and he's old. I know that sounds bad. But this young man had his whole life ahead of him and he offered for the old guy to go first and they kick him off. I feel like past this point I didn't care what happened to any of the characters at all. And the mother could of left the kid over there and helped pull them up. The two men are jerks. Literally none of these character were worth caring about besides that poor dude and he gets killed early.

Trust me, this happens. A couple of years ago I helped save an elderly lady from drowning near a pier. At one point early on I was alone with her out in the water, trying to keep her head above water, and she grabbed on to me and pushed me under the water trying to stay afloat, and as she dunked me, from out of *nowhere* the thought "If she pulls me under, am I going to have to kick her off to survive?" popped into my brain. It was pure reptile-brain level instinct, not a hint of mercy in it. Thankfully, I managed to get back up and she ended up surviving, but that was a pretty unnerving encounter with the more primitive parts of my brain.

While everyone hates how this scene played out, i can assure you this is actually 100% a real human behavior in extreme circumstances. Survivor's guilt is a very real thing and while i really hate this film and its dark story (Along with this scene) its one of the most realistic scenes and even shows the cruelty one must go through when pressed to die or fight to live. No other films broach this subject or come close to the same level of realism as this one did. And still to this day, its hard to watch.

It was hard to concentrate on the film after watching this scene, I know it was the old guy or the young man who let him go first, but damn that was so brutal. It is still very disturbing to me, like those folks said earlier EVERYBODY could have helped, even the mother and her child. That poor child would have still been traumatized by what happened to that young waiter who had a whole life ahead of him. But, don't me wrong they both should have been saved.

For anybody who finds themself in such a life and death situation with only a few people around them being their last hope, they need to really block away their trust issues. Not only trust issues to strangers that you only met a few minutes before, but also trust issues with yourself when you're uncertain of your action's outcome. Damn this movie gives a whole new perspective on Titanic's passengers' last 2 hours, though this movie's ship situation seems to me twice as disastrous.

I don't know how the director filmed this scene. I used to be an elevator mechanic and I recognized several pieces of machinery. To clear up some stuff, I think the young guy just wanted everyone to be safe and put others before himself, and after that part, there is no way or time they would of had to kick the old man off and help the young guy up. Also, the reason the mother didn’t help is because mothers have a thing where they are super protective of their children, and she was pretty scared about the whole situation in general.
