call me weird, but when i was a kid i'd block the drain in the shower so no water would escape, and i waited 'till water was ankle high and i'd sing this song while kicking the water, just like he does. Nostalgia

as a kid, i never understood why grandpa always said he was going on an a travelling adventure and then would step into his tiny little hut. but it's clearly obvious...he's a time lord and his hut is his TARDIS!

He breaks into song while being taken against his will, loses his hat, is dragged through water, and witnesses two guys left for dead in the ocean, all without a care in the world. BOSS!

This is exactly how British and German tourists travel together

Interesting fact: many TV airings cut this song, but keep the scene with the spies swimming ashore at the end, completely ruining the joke and depriving us of a cool song.

After repeatedly watching this movie when I was a little kid, now 11 years later I now finally understand the words to this song.

My grandmother met Lionel Jeffries once when he was filming something in Wales. He offered her his chair. Nice guy, apparently.

"Oh the posh posh traveling life the traveling life for me." That line reminds of two other songs I like such as "An actor's life for me." And " A Pirate's life for me." Those are some of the greatest songs of my childhood including this one!

One of the most British songs I've ever heard

I was raised on this movie and I'm almost 20. Whenever I listen to the songs now I'll let my mom hear and she'll just smile and shake her head before saying the name of the movie because she already knows what I've been doing for the past hour XD lmao

Lionel Geoffreys a total genius and very amusing man indeed.. He directed 'The Railway Children' (with Jenny Agutter and Bernard Cribbins)... Funny and totally fab fella ... he reminds me of mi' ol' Dad... hee hee R.I.P. Lionel you have left some wonderful works for us to enjoy sir... :0)x

My father was somewhat like a mix of Grandpa Potts and Commander McBragg. His stories were wonderfully made up, and as he was born in Ireland in 1917, he had that Imperial air about him, even though he was poor. That's what I loved about him- it didn't take money for all of us to travel the world and meet the Potentates of Europe. All it took was imagination! That's the message of POSH and Grandpa Potts. He was a remnant from the Old World. People like him, who had lived through the Millennial reign of Christ, were considered to be "Eccnetrics" or looneys and placed into asylums. We would sing Posh when going on a trip. He had a Dunhill cigarette lighter with someone else's initials on it! Totally in character for my "posh" papa.
