He's from Kazakhstan. He speaks Russian and Kazakh. This was 2017 and he was 22. He was completely unknown and had only done some weekend singing contests in Eastern Europe. A producer from a Chinese singing show called "Singer" saw him and decided to invite him to join the show as an experiment. The "Singer" is a competition for well known Chinese singers who have been in the business for a good while. Dimash wasn't known at all and he wasn't Chinese. In fact he couldn't speak a word. He knew a tiny bit of English so he'd use that a bit but mostly he used an Interpreter. So, can you imagine being 22, unknown, singing in a foreign country to people who doesn't understand your language! It had to be nerve racking! Well, after this show aired in China he became an instant sensation and ultimately became a superstar in China. Since then, he has also become a huge sensation in Russia and he's done one sold out concert in New York which was phenomenal by the way. He's a Kazahk, sings in his own language of course, in Russian, English, Chinese (Mandarin, I think) French (as in this song), Italian.........and another language which I forget. He's studied singing since the age of five and will be 26 in May 2020. He is also able to play several instruments! Go check out some more of his songs, he will not disappoint! He can cover six octaves with ease!
