Not only that, but there's also the old question: "Do you truly want to live forever?". Barbossa and his crew pretty much showed that you really wouldn't. Because even without the curse that robs them of all feeling and sensation, you would still eventually lose any "warmth" and luster that life may have once held as all of the people you care most about would eventually grow old and die, leaving you behind, while you continued to live on knowing that you could never see them again. I wouldn't really even call Barbossa "evil" in this movie, only desperate and broken, as he craves the ability to feel even the simplest of life's pleasures again.

IKR, compare this to the gross stop motion skeletons (Crashbox) of course I’m in favor of neither one, (heck, Coco looked better than these guys !) but one of the things I value about the Mouse is they often make their animation style easy on the eyes, especially their target audience eyes. The curse is depression and the ship is the body. Barbarossa's description is spot on. " Look! the moon light shows us for what we really are, we are not among the living, and so we cannot die. But neither are dead! For too long I've been parched of thirst and unable to quench it. Too long I've been starving to death and haven't died. I feel nothing. Not the wind on my face nor the spray of the sea. I always found Barbossa in this film rather curious compared to how he is in the other ones. He always has a nice rapport with Jack in the other films, even when he does things like steal the Black Pearl from him or work with the British against him. And Jack wasn't even upset about the mutiny in AWE like he was in CotBP. I wonder if this situation would've played out similar to how things went in AWE if it wasn't for Barbossa and the crew being driven to more depravity than normal due to the Aztec curse.
