I've been listening to Mike Schmitz and Jonathan Givony before Draft Express joined with ESPN. They know what they're talking about. I think Chet Holmgren will be the kind of pick that reveals which analysts and TV sports personalities know how to analyze players and potential and which ones don't know as much. Most of us who follow college basketball and March Madness have an opinion that is naturally skewed towards over-rating players who perfom well in college. We confuse how they are now with what kind of players they will be. Most of us also have difficulty projecting players who don't fit with a preconceived "type" and we naturally try to make a player fit a type. For example, "Chet Holmgren is another Kristaps Porzingis". In fact, I think many NBA evaluators do this too. I think the above reasons are partly why we miss the Luka Doncic and Giannis players. I think the same is happening with Chet. All the best Mike, with your endeavours in Portland. I'll miss hearing your analyses. I hope you become a GM one day, if that's your goal.

Gonzaga right now has three players in the league that are doing at great level in Sabonis, Clarke, and Hachimura - though Hachimura has dealt with off-the-court issues that kept him out a half last season, so it's hard to analyze what he can do, but they are not franchise saving players (as of yet) and a go to guy. I don't think Chet is gonna be changing the fortunes of a franchise - he'd might end up being more of a solid player.

@@JoeCool9690S As a partial Japanese, I'm believing in Hachimura to be an all-star very soon, and his game, skillset, and physique is there. The only thing that I see that can deter his chances is not his game, but his "Japanese-ness" in being too humble and being too nice. If he takes the leadership like he had in his time at Gonzaga, he's definitely an all-star.

guys don't go hard in the regular season at all anymore so when it's time to step it up and it gets physical and win games at the end of the season and in playoffs, their bodies start to break down, knees get tweaked, ankles get rolled, and hamstrings get pulled.
@Peter-hx3im
@Peter-hx3im 2 жыл бұрын
@@t9t9t9t9t9 people act like today's game is soft, but it is crazy hard on the body to try and defend 30 feet out, switch & cross guard guys that are bigger or smaller than them, and keep up with today's off ball action. In the 90s it was more physical, but with stars free to isolate because of the illegal defense rules there was way more standing around for the other 4/8 players. This extra tole increases lower body injuries from the stress of running & changing direction. Go back and watch games from the late 90s, there was a ton of walking down the court and standing around.

@@GoatedAtNFS i heard kd has some favorable genetics. Despite how slim he looks KD is only three pounds lighter than giannis, which wouldn't really make sense when you see them side by side. They did a sports science analysis on KD that he has naturally higher bone and muscle density, which can't really be "trained". So i think chet would probably benefit more from giannis who changed his body through diet and working out rather than natural genetics that make up KD's high density.

He has the potential to be the best versions of Danny Manning, Kiki Vandeweghe, Andrei Kirilenko, Tim Duncan and so many of the greats unrealized all at once. If an organization can do what ever Gonzaga did but at a gradually higher level, the sky is truly the limit for what he can do on the floor in any capacity. For Chet I wouldn't say just yet he has the all clear wherever he goes cause it depends on whose giving what they think is G14 classification... I think teams need to be prepared to realize that Chet and many others in this draft class are in a position to where you better not disappoint them. This is not only their penultimate dream, we are in an age where more and more prospects are increasingly aware of what their value and accommodations should be and how to, very early on, maneuver professionally throughout these situations as they rise. Jabari Smith, Mark Williams, Jaden Ivey, John Butler, Chet Holmgren, Kennedy Chandler, and Jalen Duren will be players to look out for come draft day. Disappointedly Patrick Baldwin IV, Michael Foster, Jaden Hardy, Trevor Keels, and Caleb Houstan have slipped into unfavorable draft positions but I hope the best for everyone and good luck on draft day and to everything coming soon.

My dad coaches for a minnesota high school that won state his senior year - they played against him earlier that season. He’s a really unique player but his size is going to be the big question mark - he’s got to add a lot of muscle and still keep his quickness/outside game. If he can he could be a nightmare matchup but if he doesn’t he’ll get dominated by the big men in the NBA. Who would you put him on defensively? He’s a good defender actually at the college level but strength wise who do you put him on in the NBA? Can’t put him on the center or power forward, not sure he’s quick enough to play against elite SFs. Who knows maybe with a NBA staff he can add another 50-60 lbs of muscle in a few years but I’d point out that he’s a good couple inches taller than Durant and 20 lbs lighter than he was when he was drafted. Will be interesting

Giannis and kd have always been fast and good ball handlers, this guy is definitely a project, I doubt he'll be a primary ball handler probably more like a Demarcus cousins, kristaps or Anthony Davis role within the aspect of handling the ball. Will be interesting to see how his career pans out tho

1) i barely see him in offensive end in March Madness… there are reason he is not handling the ball at that situation; 2) i like how they omitted Poku for the offensive clips… Poku have a better handle but still not enough to be a 7ft ball handler at this stage… His defense is real; but i seriously doubt he can be good offensively in NBA

He is a bust. You can see it they're trying to say he's Evan mobley at the mobley is just better than him I think he's going to struggle his first couple years in the NBA just because he won't be able to get to any spots on the floor it's just not big enough. I know everybody wants to come out after their freshman year but he is definitely the person that would do better going back to college that he can just work on his game get stronger I just don't see him being able to get to the spots in the NBA.

His size isn't my concern, not when you have skill. No, my issue is the intangibles. In almost every big game he had where he went up against top level competition and teams, he didn't really stand out or show up as "the guy" and I'm not even big on that kind of nonsense. But if I'm going #1 overall, I need to know that when the lights are brightest, I can trust you to get the job done. I like him, just not at #1 overall. I don't know if he can lead a franchise *right now* .There's always a chance for growth or development, I'd never put a young man not even old enough to legally get a drink yet into a box and say "That's what he'll always be." But for the present, no, I'm not on the #1 overall hype train.
