changing the expansion vessel seems to have solved a multitude of problems ie leaks , loosing pressure E119, refilling, over pressure, back pressure, water to hot ,pressure relief problems and lastly gas supply Error, and thermostat seems to be working now

The way I see it, you didn't as you say, touch the gas or break the burner seal. You were more than capable to carryout this job and needs must. Well done!

Just had a gas plumber/fitter or whatever he called himself tell me that this is a boiler off the wall job as the expantion vessel had to be fitted from the back! He also said that I was breaking the law for taking the front cover off to change the PRV. What a prick, Thanks for the vid!

1 minute 30 in and I'm loving this guy already. Everytime I speak to a heating engineer the response is " needs a new boiler mate" the last time it was a £2.50 start capacitor on the pump. Professional bit changers these guys are. No one repairs anymore.

I thought he's been the best yet , liked the way he spoke clearly that I could understand him , explained what he was doing etc , made it seem so easy even for me , I had similar issues but I think I have water coming out a valve above the boiler . I do hope his system worked ok

I'm a mechanical technician by trade and got fed up of waiting for "heating engineers" . I've just repaired my expansion vessel. The boiler was over pressurising then at 0bar in the morning. The hose going from the vessel to the system was blocked. I took it out and removed hose from it to find it completely blocked with crap. Cost me 20 quid for hose. Been like that for over 12 months and now its sorted. Easy. Sick of waiting for engineers who dont turn up. Plenty of vids on here who to fix problems. Hats off to ya mate.

Well done Mark. Im from Canada and run a HVAC business. More Furnace and air conditioning, but just to tell you- you did a good job, and like you said, its your boiler, you do as you want and don't let the righteous guys get you down. As long as you shut off the gas, electrical and water and use some common sense to keep yourself safe your fine. One tip I'll give you- Control boards and water do not like each other. I had water drip down on a furnace control board and the customer really had no money, at least the kind of money to replace a control board so I suggested to her, before we replace it with a new one, lets try this first- We removed the control board, and put in in a container and filled it all around with dry white rice. Left it over night. Came back and reinstalled it and it worked like a champ. The rice sucks all the moisture out of the control board. Great job and good video. enjoyed it. Cheers from Canada!!

Thank you for this! Diagnosed why boiler pressure was so high when boiler was running then 0 in the morning yesterday. Found this video, ordered the part by 2pm. Delivered at 12pm today and in, on and working fine by 1:30. This video really helped- thank you!

Just about to do mine. Did the boiler safety valve and two leaky radiator valves yesterday and now need the expansion vessel. I'm no plumber either but it's not hard to do these things. Fixing your own things is fine if you respect the safety stuff and do your homework and become familiar with the task, KZfaq is a perfect place to learn and become familiar with these things. Knowledge is power and very rewarding when you fix your own shit!

Great video and lots of good information. I have the same problem to resolve on my sisters boiler…same make and model so your video is invaluable. Couple of points to add. 1. In my case it was obvious the expansion vessel had failed internally as on re-pressurising the system the pressure increased very rapidly…likely a diaphragm failure. 2. We also had the pool of water in the bottom of the inner case (air box). Interesting comment by another of the viewers about that leading to the error code (which is E133 not E113 as you stated) due to one wire shorting. 3. I mopped up the water pool, reset the fault and ran the boiler again for a few minutes after which I could clearly see water spreading from under the expansion vessel so shutdown and ordered a new one.

2 extra things for anyone else out there doing the same thing. 1) Remove the blue spark generator and then twist the drip tray out the way and its much easier to work on the expansion vessel (there's a Baxi video about this) 2) I needed to repressurise my vessel to 1 bar once it was installed and water refilled despite it being pre pressurised. A Shrader bike pump with guage will do the job and make sure the boiler has been run on hot water and central heating first So it's fully bled. Many thanks for posting this video Mark, it was a real life saver!

I just had this exact same problem fixed by a plumber a week ago. He told me I was getting the error for gas, because the white wire that goes into that boiler part was getting wet, causing it to short out. so like you, mine had a leak and created the same pool of water that the thin white wire was dangling in, and caused the error message. Kinda ok with it doing that because otherwise the leak might not have gotten fixed. Mine cost me £145. I could have done this myself for the £40ish but I didn't find this video in time. Good going sir.

Thanks for the entertainment. Your boiler didn't look all that old, or at least it is very clean, so makes you wonder why they don't use expansion vessels that last longer. I changed the pressure relief valve on my boiler because I couldn't get a plumber. it cost me £7. If I need to replace the expansion tank I will look at your video again. I also had to dry my PCB with a hairdryer when the boiler got soaked due builders setting up an inadequate temporary roof which leaked all over the top of the boiler in heavy rain on Christmas Day at 8pm. Try getting a heating engineer then !

did mine earlier, thanks mate. P.s. for anyone attempting this, loosen off (a couple of turns) the Copper Nut under the Tray that fixes to the base of the Expansion Vessel first, then undo the White Plastic drain off Tap. By doing this, it will release any pressure, allowing you to completely empty the contents of the Old Expansion Vessel. Use a proper Bucket and be prepared to wait for a good 15 minutes, then you won't have to clean up the inside of the Boiler after.

Try being a pensioner on your own, my god some of these trades men treat you like a idiot with your life savings under the bed, However I was a lucky girl who asked a million questions off my day and here is what it all comes down to " everything in life is a jigsaw " all you have to do it fit it up lol. I was 12 years old when he bought me a beautiful seamstress electric sewing machine, I left the house for half a hour and when I came back my beautiful machine was all in bits on the table. My father and I learned together how to put her back again and since that day I have always worked out what I need, so here I am with all the help in the world relying on all you guys to work out what I need to buy and not get ripped off. Keep up the good work .

Hi Mark, just thought i would send you a note in case this problem should arise, on your boiler the heat effect sensor ,light flickers and stops you getting hot water I eventually stripped the hydraulic inlet assembly and found that a very small magnet had dislodged from a worn small plastic spigot that it should sit on ,this was causing the signal failing to inform the PCB it took me ages to detect this fault after spending lots on other spare parts which I thought faulty. best regards keep these videos coming

Good job! I need to replace my Worcester bosch greenstar exp. vessel. The service engineer said the safety relief valve should be changed too. On my vessel there is an auto air bleed valve on the top so need to consider replacing that also. I will be draining my whole system and will need to use an anti corrosion inhibitor too on re-fill. That would cost me around £130 instead of nearly £400 by doing the job myself.

Friend you obviously know your stuff " but all of these manufacturer mechanical fancy names, could make you weep, yes you need the job doing for you and your family, but haven't humans made the basics of a fire in the grate ,sitting around it keeping warm "complicated and expensive" imagine if you and other people weren't clever to do this job, pensioners widows, even young married women, etc when we had that coal, coke wood "a fireplace" everyone could keep warm ,now they build houses without any fire place ,and even take them out of council estates, "so if boiler is broken, or you can't afford the bill,,tough, freeze "even children" this is what we have allowed to happen, good luck friend

great video , thank you. More should be seeing and doing this. Forty minute job. £35 part from Ebay. Did not realise that they come pre pressurised. Spent more time looking for my bike pump which I did not even need!!. Incidently, the inner boiler cover is hardly gas tight, not even water tight as anybody seeing this is no doubt aware so not really a problem to remove. Have also previously changed the pump, relief valve and upper bleed valve. All easy One of the last days at school should be devoted to how to save £ thousands on these home and also car jobs. About to remove and flush some radiators. I think getting it pressure flushed for mega ££'s will find and cause more problems excellent

12:20 I bought a replacement expansion vessel but its threads don't quite reach the little connecting pipe underneath. The threaded section of the replacement expansion vessel is around 3mm shorter than my original expansion vessel's. That brass extension piece you used would make it too long so I'm not sure what best practice would be to get the thing to fit?

Well done Mark, great video. I also service my own boiler, have replaced a thermistor, the heat exchanger and just today removed the inner rod from the diverter valve and replaced with a new one. Has anyone here any advice as to why the pressure on my combi boiler may keep rising. I have to bleed the radiators to drop the pressure as well as run the heating at a lower temperature. As usual the heating engineer was more interested in fitting a new boiler rather than fix this one. £900 for parts and labour compared to £1800 to supply and fit a new boiler, obviously hoping I'd go with the second option as it's an aging boiler (Vizo Heatline) but I'm sure this can be fixed for less than £100.

I have one & i rate them. I was a gas fitter myself, but we turned to bathroom installs. So i let Gas safe registration lapse. Anyway well done. Now im thinking , in 2007-08 i worked on a housing estate where every home had a Potterton Suprima Heat Only boiler fitted. The PCB (Printed circuit board) Had a known fault on it. Baxi/Potterton knew the PCB was scrap, but kept quiet. Until 'WATCHDOG' filmed a piece on the problems. The real low blow was knowone accepting fault & the cost of replacement was ridiculous, about £300 for PCB alone. WOW! Thats the good thing being handy in regards to DIY etc, lower breakdown costs.

An easier method for avoiding leaks onto the floor was(with drain tap open) to do an initial drain down to relieve pressure in the system then remove the air valve at the top of the vessel to allow air in. When water stops flowing slightly undo the bottom brass nut until air can be heard being sucked into the vessel. Very gradually open the nut to let more air in as the flow slows down. I didn't get any leaks at all doing it this way. As said before this is a water job not a gas job. I could have fitted an expansion tank anywhere in the system but wanted to keep things original.

A Baxi boiler with an error code of e125 relates to a circulation fault and the first place to check would be the pump thereafter I would be looking for blockages within the system jammed or closed radiator valves, also the pressure may require topping up via the filling loop between 1-1.5bar on the gauge

You are bang on about "tradesmen". So many dickheads posing as professionals who don't call, or when they do look 2 fortunes to repair. Simple fact is, if you are logical, and have a modicum of common sense, you can fix most issues with home heating. Heating 'engineers" like to make out like its a black art needing years of experience to master. IT IS NOT! Especially these days with the internet, you can safely do most things yourself if you are handy. I spent hundreds of pounds a few years ago on 2 cowboys who ended up messing my heating system up no end on one occasion by fitting wrong parts, and charging £400 with the fault not fixed on another. I pride myself in my DIY skills and read up extensively on plumbing and heating. I have since carried out multiple jobs on my oil fired pressurised system, including fixing a broken Riello oil pump, replacing jets, fitting an inline oil filter and isolator, and recently, replacing and recharging the 2 expansion tanks, fitting a Fernox TS1 magnetic filter, replacing an automatic air vent, extra drain cock and stop cock. I have also power flushed the entire system several times. Its not rocket science.

the reason your expansion vessel most likely bust is because when you replaced the prv on your other vid you over pressurized the system has most likely done the damage it was nearly at 3 bar at the end off the vid LOL

To be fair taking the case off is the combustion chamber case. If the seal leaks and you’ve an issue you could get gassed out. Maybe try a good well known company as they will come. Not the cheapest guy you can find Not tryna be a twat just saying for people watching

I am not a plumber nor a gas engineer but I know it’s an offence to open a boiler case if you are not gas safe registered or under a gas safe registered supervision. That boiler case stops the carbon monoxide from spilling into the house, hence why engineers need to use their tools to check if it’s air tight or else the carbon will take your life one day, this happened to family friend, the whole house would have died if the neighbours CO alarm didn’t go off, the ambulance found them unconscious. Don’t risk your life for the sake of some £200

what you are doing is messing about with a safety related piece of kit, if a jobsworth sees this they could condemn the boiler even though all you have done is repaired the water leak! Being a corgi registered "engineer" is just a licence to make money for some, for a 10 year old boiler replacing it with a new one will always be their choice as fault finding is fairly simple (its the entire boiler at fault!). On the flip side of this you can buy a dodgy set of ebay brake pads for your 1 ton killing machine (a car), fit them yourself, take to the roads and no rules apply! Common sense should apply to any DIY repairs, if you are competent and understand the risks associated with what you are working on you should have the right to repair it yourself!
