Getting it done! A big milestone! (and definitely worth having the block work hired out)

Yes it is! I am looking forward to the day when the framing is done and the roof is complete. Then we can relax and enjoy the process without the constant fear of rain. Gonna be a great day! Terry

So glad you guys got your footings done!! I know it’s been trying but that’s a huge step as I’m sure you know. I’ve been rehabbing (full gut job) my house for about as long as you all have been working on your project. Your videos have been a huge help. I’ve learned a lot. Thanks for taking the time and good luck moving forward.

Super excited for you guys! East Coast is on the top of my list as well - I see them all over the place - so I'll definitely be giving them a ring within a couple weeks. Still trying to catch up to y'all :)

Is the concrete poured directly onto the soil, or is there a bed of gravel laid down first? Thanks for the video guys

@@ForestToFarm Awesome. I've been binging your videos since I wrote that comment earlier today. I love watching houses get built from the very beginning, fascinating stuff.

How can I make my basement ceiling support more weight under my room. Without having to put jack stands. I plan on adding a 125 gallon aquarium upstairs and the beams go parallel to the tank which I know doesn’t help.

Honestly are not no experts. Also without being able to physically look at what is going on it would be very hard to determine what needs to be done. I would hate to steer you in the wrong direction. Ideally a drop sill to shorten the span would give good support but it seems that is not an option for you. Sorry. Wish I could help more. Terry

Without forming with 2x8 or 2x12 or whatever the depth of your footing is designed to be how do you know if your level?

I agree lol. We did what is common here. After doing it I would never do it again. Forming with boards just makes sense. We had pins set to the proper depth at around every 6 foot. It works but it is just not perfect. Thanks for watching! Terry

By the way we checked with a transit and were within 1/2" or less so it does work.

So I have a question about the bulkheads how did you calculate where they go
@ForestToFarm
@ForestToFarm 3 жыл бұрын
No exact science at least for us. I did not like where they were though. The guy we hired to dig them did it at his own discretion. It was actually not a good layout in my opinion but that is what you get when you hire people. We ended up sending them away and finished the footings ourselves. Wish we would have done it all ourselves. Hindsight. Terry

Also you want the depth to be an equal division of the block you are laying if possible. We had 8” block so either 8”, 16” or 24” bulkheads would be ideal. 24” is the max allowed in our area. Hope this helps. Terry

Yea just did my layout and when I leveled the string lines I got like a 4ft drop across a 56ft span so I just wanted an idea of where to put the steps. I understand it has to be in 8 inch increments but just didn't know the distance between the steps.
