When I was a kid I saw my dad and a couple helpers make a perimeter wood frame and cut angle stakes to hold a 4 inch slab about 25 x 25 feet. It was for an additional room for the house. Took the guys a couple of days and a stack of 2 x 4's. Then used a mixer and poured into wheel barrows. This deal looks like the foundation for a three story building! GAWD!

Definitely an interesting and different way of putting in a foundation. In my area a monolithic pour wouldn't be allowed because you need a separate inspection for the footings, stem wall and slab. J-bolts always get added after the pour while the concrete is still wet too. My neck of the woods they are very inspection heavy, you would have 5 inspections before you could even start framing the walls. Keep up the good work.

Big waste of money and concrete from what I see of overdone excavation n concrete...overkill many times over. I see houses in soft silt soil New Orleans area 50+ yrs old level and solid still with just a 12 inch wide chain wall (the main perimeter 'footing' ) 12 to 16 inches below grade, 6 inches above grade, 4 pcs of rebar on chairs (highway mesh cut to penetrate soil at bottom of trench to hold rebar steady during pour). Concrete company's owner and P.E. (certified professional engineer) told me more is just a waste - and this from a guy whose profit goes up the more concrete you buy!) but he says the bigger, wider and deeper footings today may impress but are unnecessary. Even in climates with below zero temps, the same narrower footings on monolithic slabs, encased in 2" thick hi density poly foam board is all you need per most county bldg codes (see " shallow frost-protected slab" in your online search).

Back in 2007, I built a large (24' x 16') two level barn on my property. I did everything by myself including drawing the blueprints, digging the foubdation, and all the structural and roofing work. The only thing I contracted out was pouring of the concrete footing & slab. I'm a lot older and a little smarter now and I'm considering building a 20' x 30' room addition on a slab. Very awesome work you do. It's shows the quality and the processes that you take to ensure a proper foundation. Wish you were in my area, would have hired your company just based on this video. I made the mistake of hiring a company that didn't care for quality and how I wanted things done like I requested all expansion joints to be saw cut, rebar in sidewalks etc...and they just did what they wanted, fast and cheaper. Why not use a Paslode gas nailer instead of hand nailing every nail? Hand nailing with a hammer tends to move the board with every swing. Thanks

Not all concrete cracks or I must have the only 25'x25' garage floor in the world without cracks or control joints. Just a smoothed top. I don't know what the builder did for this slab but no cracks in over 18 years in the Pacific Northwest climate.
@jasonbell5152

This is the most important part of garage builds and any foundation construction. Framing errors can be fixed. But grading, foundation and slab can't after the cement is poured and so must be done right. If the concrete is wrong, the garage is a writeoff. Many homeowners bawk at the cost, not knowing the true extent of labour, materials, planning and execution involved, and hire some bum from down the street with a beat up truck and wheelbarrow, thinking they'll save a few bucks. Nope. They'll be screwed and won't find out till soon after. Half decent 2-car garages where I am go for about $25,000. Customers that can't afford the cost are better off parking on the lawn al fresco. If they hire a 2nd rate foundation contractor or worse, every cent they pay will be money down the drain.

You poured over 5 times as much cement in the foundation alone as I did in my 24x40 foot frame barn, it has been standing over 30 years and still as good as the day I poured. The only thing I did not do by myself was the actual pour. I was about 35 at the time. Still vividly remember digging that foundation with a shovel in August avg temp was in the high 90/100s, started at 5am and quit about 1pm.
